Many companies and organizations now considered quality management as one of the most important corporate strategies in today’s business; as well as the main factor of most companies in order to achieve customer satisfaction. Quality Management has adapted across the board and is no longer limited to one particular field of business. Quality Management is a business process that brings together the responsibilities of all employees to attain customer satisfaction and continuous improvement in the quality of all employee’s responsibilities and company’s product and services. The importance of quality and customer satisfaction should be established prior to the implementation of the total quality management process. Thus, there’s the framework, which includes six supply chain strategies along with ISO, Six-Sigma, and Baldridge to incorporate within a business. The company I chose to analyze is the Riordan Manufacture Corporation. I will examine and analyze the importance and measurement of Riordan Manufacture Corporation and its components. Riordan Manufacture is a global plastics manufacturer; which has incorporated quality management (QM) into its mission statement. The company’s major clients are aircraft, appliance, and automotive parts manufactures as well as bottles and beverages makers and the defense department. It’s headquarter is in San Jose, CA and has facilities worldwide. Riordan mission is to ensure that it maintain leader position in the plastic manufacturing business, as well as providing solutions to its customers while expanding. In order to achieve this mission, the company will have to maintain and attain profitability with the aid of innovation and technology. ...Dimensions of Quality The dimensions of quality for manufactured goods are outlined by Russell & Taylor III (2014) as: performance, features, reliability, conformance, durability, serviceability, aesthetics, safety, and other perceptions. Quality is also considered a subjective term because each person’s definition of quality is different (Russell & Taylor III, 2014). Performance is measured by how the product works (does it work as advertised?). Performance in the service industry means prompt and accurate service (Garvin, 1987). Performance is a more objective dimension of quality because performance can be measured (Garvin, 1987). Features are the extra items added to the basic “model”. Features can include upgrading to leather seats in a new car, adding in the heated seat function to the vehicle as well, or ordering/purchasing a car with a sunroof. Reliability is a measurement of how the products operated under different conditions in an expected time frame. Computers, automobiles, and farming equipment need a high reliability rating due to what they are used for/needed for (Garvin, 1987). Conformance is the “degree to which a product meets pre-established standards” (Russell & Taylor III, 2014). Durability is the life span of the product (will it last 1 year or 10 years?).
