...ATTITUDES AND SOCIAL COGNITION Thinking Too Much: Introspection Can Reduce the Quality of Preferences and Decisions Timothy D. Wilson University of Virginia Jonathan W Schooler University of Pittsburgh In Study 1, college students' preferences for different brands of strawberry jams were compared with experts' ratings of the jams. Students who analyzed why they felt the way they did agreed less with the experts than students who did not. In Study 2, college students' preferences for college courses were compared with expert opinion. Some students were asked to analyze reasons; others were asked to evaluate all attributes of all courses. Both kinds of introspection caused people to make choices that, compared with control subjects', corresponded less with expert opinion. Analyzing reasons can focus people's attention on nonoptimal criteria, causing them to base their subsequent choices on these criteria. Evaluating multiple attributes can moderate people's judgments, causing them to discriminate less between the different alternatives. When faced with a difficult decision, people sometimes spend a good deal of time thinking about the advantages and disadvantages of each alternative. At one point or another, most of us have even reached for a sheet of paper and made a list of pluses and minuses, hoping that the best course of action would become clear. Reflection of this kind is generally thought to be beneficial, organizing what might otherwise be a confusing jumble...

...Career Plan Reflection Paper: After completing the Career Plan on the University Of Phoenix Career website my results were as follows. The career profiled deemed me as enterprising, realistic and social. The website defines enterprising as frequently involving starting up and carrying out projects. These occupations can involve leading people and making many decisions. Sometimes they require risk taking and often deal with business. The website defines realistic as occupations frequently involving work activities that include practical, hands-on problems and solutions. They often deal with plants, animals and real-world materials like wood, tools and machinery. Many of the occupations require working outside and do not involve a lot of paperwork or working closely with others. Lastly the website defines social as occupations frequently involve working with, communicating with and teaching people. These occupations often involve helping or providing service to others. As determined by the website I would work well in sales, food and service working. This exercise may have proven accurate for some but highly off based for myself. I have no interest in working in a food industry or in a social setting. I believe the questions and results weren’t accurate to say the least. I will not be using this career planner. The questions that were presented to us are: discuss the ways in which understanding your personal competencies will help you to improve your critical thinking skills...

...presented them earlier this year. Using an expert panel approach followed by two exploratory surveys, we identify KM success measures. The research demonstrates that measures for KM success are required on multiple dimensions. This paper thus also presents a set of dimensions with measures that can be used to determine if KM in an organization is successful. Stefan Smolnik European Business School (EBS) Stefan.Smolnik@ebs.edu David Croasdell University of Nevada, Reno davec@unr.edu begin to identify instruments that can be used to operationalize these measures. Besides presenting some background on KM success, the paper also offers a series of perspectives on KM/KMS success. These perspectives were derived from an analysis of academics and practitioners’ definitions of KM/KMS success. 2. Background on KM Success After summarizing various definitions of KM, Jennex defined KM success as reusing knowledge to improve organizational effectiveness by providing the appropriate knowledge to those who need it when it is needed [13]. KM is expected to have a positive impact on the organization that improves organizational effectiveness. DeLone and McLean use the terms success and effectiveness interchangeably; one of the perspectives proposed in this paper does likewise in respect of KM [7], [8]. ...Discussion 2. Analysis 5. Reflection 7. Recommendation 8. Appendix 9. References 10. Abstract Even though the Sony Playstation is a leader in their market, they still have the problem of the Japanese yen being more valuable than their foreign country’s currency, and the location of their manufacturing facilities being too far from their customers. This contributes to the increased cost of quality of them having to transport the materials, and finished products to and from the manufacturing facility. Also the cost of imports and exports is not as valuable for them because of the value of the American dollar, or the European pound compared to the Japanese yen. (Sony Corporation SWOT Analysis, 2010) As an Operations Management Consultant, I have been asked to present a paper to Sony Corporation on how they have applied the Ten Operation Management Strategies to successfully achieve their financial, social, market place dominance, cultural influence, international presence, and successful application of quality principals to successfully achieve their objectives in America. Background The Sony corporation is one of the largest consumer electronics makers in the world. Sony manufactures games, electronics, entertainment, and financial services. Sony is headquartered in Japan, and employs 171,300 employees, but this is not the purpose of this paper. The Sony Playstation was made by Ken...

In addition, nursing leaders must be willing to invest time into their personal and professional development. ...International Journal of Information and Education Technology, Vol. 5, No. 6, June 2015 Towards a Model of Engaging Online Students: Lessons from MOOCs and Four Policy Documents Khe Foon Hew Abstract—The paper describes a model of engaging students in fully online or blended learning environments. To do this, I first discuss the notion of student engagement and how it relates to the Self-Determination Theory of motivation. Next, I reviewed a number of online learning policy guidelines from four professional councils around the world in order to elicit specific guidelines related to the design of online learning courses, and student engagement. Following that, I analyzed two most highly-rated MOOCs. I analyzed the structural features of the two MOOCs and the comments of both participants who completed the courses, and who partially completed or dropped out. Altogether, comments from 839 participants were examined. Finally, using these empirical data and the policy guidelines from the four professional organizations, I outline a rudimentary model of engaging students in online learning courses, based on six major instructional design elements. Index Terms—Online learning, blended learning, massive open online learning, MOOCs, e-learning, instructional design, engagement, motivation, self-determination theory. I. INTRODUCTION Online learning for both students and teachers has become one of the fastest growing trends in educational uses of technology [1]. Essentially, the main...
