Quality Management for Organizational Excellence “Quality Textiles International is an organization that weaves fabric and prepares the required sheet lengths as desired by customers. They have received recent complaints the fabric weight, measured in ounces per square inch, is not meeting customer requirements, which are very close to the control limits. Quality Textiles International’s quality assurance department checks the fabric weight on a regular basis and knows their process for fabric weight has a mean of 2.73 oz/in2 and a standard deviation of 0.31” (University of Phoenix, n.d., para. 1).
1.0 Histogram A graphical representation, which shows a visual impression and illustration of the data is known as a histogram. The plotted data and the values are arranged by the histogram in a regular manner like a graph. A histogram is quite easy to use and understand and by using a histogram representing difficult and lengthy calculations can be summarized very easily and accurately. A histogram is quite easy to read as well and requires little time to understand the histogram.
2.0 When should a person use a Histogram? When a person is uncertain what to do with a large set of measurements offered in a table, a person can use a histogram to categorize and show the data in a more user friendly layout. A histogram will make it simple to see wherever the bulk of values fall in a measurement scale and how much difference there is.
2.1 Summarize large data sets graphically:
When summarizing of large data sheets is required.
2.2 Compare process results with specification limits:
If a person includes the process specification limits to his or her histogram, a person can verify promptly whether the present method could create "good" products.
Specification limits may take the structure of length, weight, density, and quantity of materials distributed or what is significant for the product of a given method.
2.3 Communicate information graphically:
The team members can without doubt see the most recurring values. When people utilize a histogram to review large data sets, or to weigh against measurements to specification limits, a person is making use of a potent tool for communicating information.
2.0 Histogram in this scenario According to the histogram plotted here three points comes out to be those out of control or just touching the boundary lines of either upper control limit (UCL) or lower control limit (LCL), as compared to the given upper control limit (UCL) and lower control limit (LCL). The upper control limit (UCL) gives the maximum value for the given data and the lower control limits (LCL) gives the minimum value present in the given data. Three cases presented in the histogram where the upper control limit (UCL) or the lower control limit (LCL) has been crossed or just touched by the given values are tabulated as follows:
| lower | |upper | | | frequency |
|1.49 |< |1.80 | | |0 |
|3.66 |< |3.97 | | |1 |
|3.97 |< |4.28 | | |4 |

The values when plotted on the histogram, just touches either the lower control limit (LCL) or the upper control limit (UCL) and hence it is said these values are the out of control values. The upper control limit (UCL) in this scenario comes out to be 4.28 whereas, on the other hand, the lower control limit (LCL) comes out to be 1.49.

Address P.O. Box 5302 SE-400 14 Göteborg Telephone Towards Sustainable Waste Management – Environmentally improved recycling Project sponsor Swedish Environmental Protection Agency +46 (0)31-725 62 00 Author David Palm Title and subtitle of the report Improved waste management of textiles Summary In Sweden, we consume 15kg of textiles per capita and year. Of this roughly 8kg are incinerated and 3kg are reused by charity organisations. The remaining 4kg either accumulates (e.g. in a closet or wardrobe) or are handled through other means of waste management (e.g. recycling centres). This way of waste management is not optimal from an environmental point of view. The textile waste flows are small by weight but large by environmental impact. The production of virgin textiles give rise to about 15 kg of carbon dioxide per kg textile and uses large amount of water; energy and chemicals and poses a risk both for the environment and human health. Policies and measures to reduce the consumption of virgin textile are needed. Hindrances for a more sustainable textile waste management are primarily economical: The environmental cost is not incorporated in the production of virgin textiles which is...

Bangladesh Textile Sector: 2013 Political Affect

...Textile Sector Overview The textile industry or apparel industry is primarily concerned with the production of yarn, and cloth and the subsequent design or manufacture of clothing and their distribution. The raw material may be natural or synthetic using products of the chemical industry. The textile and clothing (T&C) industries provide the single source of economic growth in Bangladesh's rapidly developing economy. Exports of textiles and garments are the principal source of foreign exchange earnings. Exports of textiles, clothing, and ready-made garments (RMG) became 77% of Bangladesh’s total merchandise exports. By 2013, about 4 million people, mostly women, worked in Bangladesh's $19 billion-a-year industry, export-oriented ready-made garment (RMG) industry. Bangladesh is second only to China, the world's second-largest apparel exporter of western brands. Sixty percent of the export contracts of western brands are with European buyers and about forty percent with American buyers. Only 5% of textile factories are owned by foreign investors, with most of the production being controlled by local investors. Textiles have been an extremely important part of Bangladesh's economy for a very long time for a number of reasons. Bangladesh is the world's second biggest exporter of clothing after China. Readymade garments make up 80 percent of the country's $24 billion in annual exports and 15 percent share of GDP. Consultancy firm McKinsey and Company has said Bangladesh...

Martin’s Textiles, Pp. 299-300

...Case: Martin’s Textiles, pp. 299-300 BA 2430 – International Management Edward Ruppel Summary Martin’s Textiles is very much in doubt with the enactment of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), which is an agreement between Canada, Mexico, and the United States for free trade, that would not only eliminate tariffs but also allow an increase in quota from Canada and Mexico to ship textiles to the United States. Compounding the issues, Martin’s Textiles has been experiencing small losses over the past several years and has received threats of losing long-term customers. Nonetheless, John Martin, Martin’s Textiles CEO, has to make the decision whether or not to move his company’s production, currently based in New York where the company has strong family like relations with its employees, to Mexico in order to reduce labor cost or wait for an imminent bankruptcy. Martin’s Textiles was founded in 1910 and has spanned four generations of the Martin family. However, with the implementation of NAFTA, all tariffs between the Canada, Mexico and the United States would be eliminated within the next 10 to 15 years with most tariffs cut in 5 years. For Martin’s Textiles the plan’s provision that all tariffs on trade of textiles amount the tree countries would be removed within 10 years would be the especially impactful. Yet, what was even more overwhelming for the textile industry was that the quota for Canada and Mexico to ship clothing and textiles to the United States...
