...The Quantity vs. Quality in Special Forces Review of Literature Carlos Falcón Saldaña MBA 525 Abstract Special Forces (SF), or more comely called “Green Berets” have a long and prestigious historical roots that stem from the elite Army formations of World War II and the Office of Strategic Service (OSS). In fiscal year 2015, the Army is looking for about 3,000 candidates to attend Special Forces Assessment and Selection, officials from the Special Operations Recruiting Battalion (SORB) said. Recruiters are seeking about 2,000 active-duty enlisted soldiers, 1,540 new recruits (for the 18X program), and about 400 active-duty officers. (Tan, 2015) With the US Army’s draw down and many SF Soldiers getting out for various reasons (Retirement, Medical Discharge, Career Opportunities) the US Army had to do something and something quick to keep the number of SF soldiers in the ranks. The re-birth of an old program seem to be the solution for this problem. This paper will identify the Quantity vs. Quality in Special Forces and in the SF Soldiers and identify why this program was “Moth-Balled” in the first place. Chapter I Introduction Introduction Special Forces (SF), Green Berets were first formed from the Office of Strategic Service (OSS) back from WWII. The OSS was formed in World War II to gather strategic intelligence and conduct operations behind enemy lines in support of resistance groups in Europe and the Far East. After the war, individuals such as Colonel Aaron...

At the time of the photo, the Bates family of Lake City, Tennessee, had 18 kids. They now have 19. JAMES AMBLER / BARCROFT USA / GETTY IMAGES by John Donovan January 16, 2016 Children in big families get less than those in smaller families. It's just math, right? Less time with the folks than the oldest had when he or she was the only one around. Maybe fewer toys or books or games or new clothes. Altogether, with other kids in the family, there's just a little less space all around. For years, scientists have delved into whether that truth has resulted in kids who are worse off. Some have said no. Some have tried to show that it's true. http://now.howstuffworks.com/2016/01/15/bigfamiliesvssmallfamiliesamatterquantityvsquality 1/5 6/27/2016 Big Families vs. Small Families: A Matter of Quantity vs. Quality? ...DirecTV vs. Dish Network Through the years television viewing has evolved. Technology has supplemented our need to have entertainment right at our finger tips. Digital services now include streaming video, movies on demand, picture in picture and DVR technology (Digital Video Recorder). With most Americans living a fast paced lifestyle, no one has the time to dedicate to television anymore. Most Americans prefer to watch a show on their own time rather than watching a particular show when it airs on television. DirecTV and Dish Network are the two largest satellite television providers to offer these services. DirecTV offers better home entertainment and a superior DVR over Dish Network. With over 19 million US subscribers, DirecTV is the leader in satellite television services and for good reason (" How Many," 2013). DirecTV offers a better quantity of channels compared to Dish Network. DirecTV offers many channels that Dish Network does not. DirecTV offers channels like “TV One” and “The Audience Channel”. They also offer 20 more “channel favorites” on average compared to Dish Network. One of the most important channel additions includes the NFL Sunday ticket. While Dish Network offers many of the same channels, DirecTV offers a higher quantity of channels. DirecTV also offers better quality channels over Dish Network. In today’s society, people expect the same movie experience in the privacy of their homes as they do at the box office. For this simple reason, quality is a...

Introduction Divergent thinking is a critical part of a creative design process. Design problems typically do not have one correct solution and often there are many solutions for a given problem. It is important to better understand how divergent thinking is evaluated and how people make associations to think of novel ideas. The alternative uses test is a standard test of divergent thinking. In the current alternative uses test manual from 1960, participants are asked to think of a fixed number of ideas (six) and those ideas are used in scoring. In this study, we removed the quantity constraint and participants were asked to list as many...

...(referred to as the "contract" retail circle) or inaccurate accounting practice. 1.1 Advantage and Disadvantage of hold inventory First advantage is improving customer service. By hold inventory can increase investment in inventory may result in a higher level of customer service and able to meet and anticipate customer demand. It also prompts and precise customer order upon request. Second advantage of hold inventory is economies of scale. Take advantage of per unit price reduction for purchasing in large quantity and enjoy economies of production as greater plant capacity and lower per unit manufacturing costs. The following is disadvantage of inventory such as consume space, higher order and carrying costs, tax depending on demand and market pattern, difficult to predict. 1.2 Push inventory strategy Push system involves predicting inventory requirements, to reach customer demand. Company has to forecast what goods clients will buy along with will determine the quantity of goods to buy. The manufacturing will produce enough...

...Eric Yee 12/06/2014 MHR 452 Dr. Farmer Quality Versus Quantity in Health Care System There is health care reform happening today. According to Journal of Healthcare Finance, “Skyrocketing health care costs are forcing payers to demand delivery efficiencies that preserve and promote quality care” (Scamperle 2014). As the demand for health services, controversies of the direction of the healthcare system stirred. Should healthcare providers focus efforts towards quality or quantity care of patients? There is an emerging trend of efforts leaning towards a quality of healthcare direction as opposed to high volume service. This issue sparked my attention because of initially hearing testimony of mal-practice within healthcare facilities. Friends told me of the staff tending to their own needs before the patients’ needs. Other mal-practice includes negligence and ignoring hospital policies that can make the entire hospital liable for damages. Overall, negligent behaviors lead me to critically analyze the source of healthcare system operations. Briefly describing this issue, healthcare providers used a payment plan called Fee-for-Service which reimburses healthcare providers rewards per patient attended. As precautions for low paying reimbursement transactions from insurance providers, healthcare providers such as doctors write extra medical operations, tests, medicines for patients to purchase. Some doctors order more than one visit to have a cushion of funds to avoid a potential...

...Macroeconomic Data Gross Domestic Product (GDP) Consumer Price Index (CPI) Unemployment rate Gross Domestic Product: Expenditure and Income Two definitions: Total expenditure in goods and services produced in a country Total income earned by productive factors in a country Expenditure equals income, since each dollar/euro spent by a consumer, is also the income of a producer Circular flow in the Economy Income Labor Households Firms Goods/Services Expenditure Value Added Value added of a firm is - The value of its good/service Minus - The value of the intermediate goods used to produce that good/service Exercise: A farmer grows a bushel of wheat and sells it to a miller for $1.00. The miller turns the wheat into flour and then sells the flour to a baker for $3.00. The baker uses the flour to make bread and sells the bread to an engineer for $6.00. The engineer eats the bread. What is the value added by each person? What is GDP? Solution 1. Farmer’s value added: 1,00 € 2. Miller’s VA: 2,00 € 3. Baker’s VA: 3,00 €. 4. GDP = 1 + 2 + 3 = 6 (sum of incomes) 5. GDP = Price of Bread! Final Goods, Value Added and GDP GDP = the total value of final goods and services produced. GDP = the total value added of all firms in the economy. The value of intermediate goods is already included as part of the market price of the final goods in which they are used. To add the intermediate goods to the final goods would be double counting. The Components of Expenditure Consumption...

...Laptop computer technologies are the cutting edge of business and academic tools. With the advent of laptop computers business owners, students, and private citizens can take their businesses or academic projects as well as personal or social networking anywhere. However, the rechargeable battery power source is strictly limited with regard to time of available use after each recharge. Modern day rechargeable battery technologies are available with the use of solar power for a many things with the exception of laptop computer batteries. The following proposal will illustrate the need for and the feasibility of Hewlett Packard manufacturing a laptop technology that integrates solar power with the existing electrical power to include a solar power rechargeable battery backup. This proposal will also introduces pricing, and non-pricing strategies, and increases in product differentiation, minimizing costs of the product. Increasing Revenue: There are three ways a business can increase revenue. (1) A company must increase the number of new clients or customers. (2) Increase the value of each sale made to a client or customers with courtesy, and knowledge or technological innovations and advancements. (3) Increase the number of times that client or customer buys from the company (Doyle, 2005). Price is not always the answer, when company offers a lower price to the consumer he or she may look at this as a problem with the equipment the company is trying to sell. The consumer...

Internal Environment The resources American Apparel has available to them internally come from hiring young people for design and advertising to help them better reach their targeted market, and come up with the advertisements and style of clothing. The overall organizational goals are to offer a sustainable, high quality clothing product that appeals to young urbanite individuals who are likely to be loyal to their brand, and advertise it just by wearing it and making it popular. External environment Five Forces Influence the industry as a whole and determine the conduct of the firms within the industry and also determines profitability Competitive intensity-High Part of the reason American Apparel wants to change in order to build a lasting brand and to make a turnaround is due to the competitive intensity within the clothing industry. Competitive intensity reduces profitability because the more strongly firms are competing, the more likely they are to cut their prices. This intensity increases when there are numerous balanced competitors, slow growth, high fixed costs, lack of perceived difference between products...
