Dantes takes on a sailor’s identity when saving the Morrells’ lives by making a new boat and giving them the dowry for his daughter’s wedding. Sinbad the Sailor writes Julie, Morrel’s daughter, a letter about the money and saving them. He is the one who gave all good news to the family and fully saved Morrel from committing suicide. Sinbad is the original part of Dantes. He was a sailor and it was the “good side” of Dantes’ new characters. He did this so give a hint in Morrel in order for him to put together who actually saved him.

This showed his personality as this part of him emerged with seeing that death is an ordeal and not the end. His thinking on this also shows how his faith has grown in ways that also helped him deal with death and such things. While watching a gory execution, “The count was as erect and triumphant as the avenging angel” (Dumas 143). This quote shows his change in nature and the normality he had with death or the administration of justice among the guilty. The Count of Monte Cristo was made to be the rich, cold hearted and careless man who let nothing get in his way of his devious plans. He thought many thoughts of regret and questioning how he could have made a mistake or if he had been following the wrong path for ten years (Dumas 497). These thoughts brought him back to the Chateau d’If. After the visit he was reminded of everything saying, “Woe to those who put me into that wretched dungeon, and to those who forgot I was there!” (Dumas 504). This trip stopped all doubt he previously had and he became cold-hearted once again. The original Count of Monte Cristo seeking vengeance was there.
The last person Monte Cristo punished was Danglars which was a little different. He starved him and took his money but didn’t do the amount he did to the rest. It was different when the count said to him, “Your life will be spared” (Dumas 522). The count’s personality changed and he was becoming more of his old self again. He spared his life because he still somewhat regretted what he already had done. Dantes wanted to be done with the revenge and move on with his life which showed a huge change in his desires and
