One of the quotes that Quentin (who is also another main character) says relates to the theme of friendship, this is when he says “Ben had been my best friend since fifth grade, when we both finally owned up to the fact that neither of us were likely to attract anyone else as a best friend’ (Quentin, Chapter 1) Quentin is best friends with Ben but they actually don’t have that much in common. They are really only friends because they thought that no one else would actually be friends with them, but later on in the book they find out other people actually like them and they actually aren’t that close in the end.
