August 10, 2014 Part 1- Judaism
Judaism is one of the oldest religions in the world. While Judaism is bound by certain core beliefs, there is also diversity within the faith. The differences between the Jewish movements reflect upon the changing in times and cultures. The three movements are; 1. Orthodox Judaism- The most traditional expression of modern Judaism. They believe the entire Torah was given to Moses by God at Sinai and remains authoritative for modern life in its entirety. 2. Reform Judaism- The most liberal expression of Judaism. They believe that individuals can make choices about what traditions to follow. 3. Conservative Judaism- The moderate position between Orthodox and Reform. They believe that laws and traditions can be changed to suit the times.
Like Christianity, Judaism believes the ultimate reality is one creator GOD. The most accepted summary of Jewish beliefs is Rambam’s 13 principals of faith. 1. God exists 2. God is one and unique 3. God is incorporeal 4. God is eternal 5. Prayer is to be directed to God alone and to no other 6. The words of the prophets are true 7. Moses ‘prophecies are true, and Moses was the greatest prophets 8. The written torah(first 5 books of the Bible) and Oral Torah(teachings now contained in the Talmud and other writings) were given to Moses 9. There will be no other Torah 10. God knows thoughts and deeds of men 11. God will reward the good and punish the wicked 12. The Messiah will come 13. The dead will be resurrected
Unlike many other religions, Judaism does not focus on cosmological concepts. Judaism is more concerned about actions than beliefs. Judaism focuses on relationships: the relationship between God and mankind, between God and

Racial Diversity in Society

...Racial Diversity in Society Angela Rowland ETH/125 October 13, 2013 Arletha Ndoume Racial Diversity in Society Part I African Americans seem to fall below regarding political, social and economic standings. Economically, their income has improved over the past fifty years. They now report a median income of what White men were making 50 years ago. In 2009, the median income for Blacks was $32584, and for Whites it was $54461.00. (Schaefer, 2012) As much as the income has increased for African Americans, it has also increased for White men. That suggests they are still the less than race. It could be said that their economic status is a result of poor college enrollment or graduation among their race. The reduction in financial aid availability has deterred African Americans from applying for higher education, and the stigma that comes with trying to succeed in school as an African American does the same. In the social aspect, there seems to be consistency of broken families among the race. Single parent families account for 91% of the households. (Schaefer, 2012) This is a shocking statistic. Although, they are broken families, there seems to be very strong generational family ties. Each generation seems to take responsibility for the younger generation. There are several instances where the grandmothers are raising the grandchildren. There will likely be multi generations in one home. They also have strong religious values and attend church together weekly. There...

...Opportunities (EEO) and the affirmative action, EEO prohibits discrimination based on race, color, ethnicity, religion and gender in employment. The affirmative action was meant to compensate for past discrimination, but now diversity is very important to the organization because of the direct correlation with the organizational effectiveness. It is a critical for an organization to enable their employees express rather than suppress their identities and roles they have outside of work.  Save Race-Related Jokes for Later If the joke you want to tell at work includes a rabbi, a priest or a black guy, save it for home. Many jokes about race, religion and culture involve stereotypes. Accordingly, the work place isn’t the best place to share them. Even racial banter between colleagues from the same background can be off putting to others. Some people disapprove of racial humor, no matter the source of it. So, consider telling race-based jokes to be inappropriate behavior at work. Keep Stereotypes to Yourself Stereotypes about racial groups abound. While working, it’s necessary to check your race-based assumptions at the door. Say you think all Latinos are good at a certain activity, but the one Latino in your office isn’t. How do you respond? The correct response is no response. Sharing racial generalizations with those targeted by them will only cause emotional damage. Rather than telling your coworker that he defied your expectations, consider reflecting on how you developed the stereotype in question...

...Racial Diversity: Historical Worksheet Donald K. Morgan Building Organizational Capacity Juancho A. Lim June 5, 2013 Throughout most of U.S. history, in most locations, what race has been in the majority? What is the common ancestral background of most members of this group? According to "The Changing Racial And Ethnic Composition Of The Us Population" In the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, the classification by race expanded to include the measurement of “mulattos”—persons of mixed black and white ancestry—and the “blood quantum” (percent of white ancestry) of American Indians. By 1890, the census racial classification reflected a growing preoccupation with identifying persons with slightest hint of African ancestry, adding categories for “quadroon” (persons with one-fourth black ancestry) and “octoroon” (persons with one-eighth or less black ancestry). In 1930, Mexicans were added to the growing list of “nonwhites.” Fearing the move as an effort to stigmatize (and possibly deny naturalization to) Mexican Americans by labeling them a nonwhite racial group, the Mexican American population (and the Mexican government) strongly protested the change, and the racial category was soon disavowed by the director of the Census Bureau What are some of the larger racial minorities in U.S. history? I chose to review the Hispanic/latino race for further research on diversity. Hispanics and latinos face some of the same types of discrimination that other non-white races face. Each race has faced downfalls and gained many accomplishments. Hispanics and latino are no different in their journey. On the economic side of the race, Hispanics have higher rates of poverty and lower income than other races. There is only 7% of managerial positions in the nation that belong to Hispanics and latinos. Hispanics have been the backbone of our farm workers. They make up three quarters of all farm workers. ...Racial Diversity In Society Currently, there are approximately three million Arab Americans in the United States. Arabs live in all 50 states, however, are most prominent in Los Angeles, Detroit, New York, Chicago and Washington, D.C. 66 percent of Arabs live in 10 states with 33 percent living in California, Michigan, New York and New Jersey (Hassoun, 2014). At least 89 percent of Arab Americans have a high school diploma and over 45 percent have a Bachelor’s degree or higher and 18 percent have a post-graduate degree. In comparison only 28 percent of Americans have a Bachelors degree and 10 percent have a post-graduate degree, on average (Arab American Institute, 2014). Arab Americans are very active in United States politics. Two Arab Americans, Mitchell E. Daniels, Jr. and Spencer Abraham, were appointed to George W. Bush’s first term Cabinet. The nations longest serving Secretary of Health and Human Services, Donna Shalala, was also Arab American (Arab American Institute, 2014). Socially, most Arab Americans fit right into the communities in which they live. Arab Americans are mostly of Muslim faith, but there are some Chaldeans, Catholic Arabs, in America. Arab Americans are often stereotyped as being terrorists, which is not true. In fact, most Arab Americans are against terrorism and believe in peace among all people. Native Racial Diversity

...The Native Americans with Racial Diversity in Society Cultural Diversity 4/26/2015 Sisay Teketele South Dakota, New Mexico and Alaska are three of the largest populated states of the Native Americans. There are 562 federally recognized tribes in America. There are more tribes but they are either only State recognized or not recognized by the government at all. The largest tribe would be the Navajo, Cherokee and the Sioux. More than 3 million people in the United States are Native people. The term “Native American” refers to the people who are ingenious to North America, and individuals who lived in North America long before European explorers invaded the territory. In the world of the Natives Americans today, they still live on reservations. They look to the federal government to protect them and their homesteads. Land was often removed from tribal status without any compensation and opened to settlers and gold prospectors. Although they are not hunting the buffalo any longer, they have the option to hunt other live game. In 1989, the median income of the Native American household was $19,000. Average income varies by tribe and can range from $29,211 in the Osage Tribe to a mere $11,402 in the Tohono O’Odham tribe. Native American households today only average less than $5000 annually, while only 6% of the overall United States population has an annual income of less than $5,000. Although most German Americans are assimilated, it is possible to see the ethnic tradition in some areas. In Milwaukee, they have a population that is 48 percent German ancestry” (University of Phoenix, 2011, p. 117). There are also more than 36 million Irish Americans, and the Republic of Ireland had a population of 4 million in 2008. From the staggering facts on the populations of certain immigrants that made up the majority of the population for many years. Race is socially constructed, as we learned in Chapter 1. Racial Diversity in Jury Selection

...Racial Diversity in Jury Selection Barbara Sigler Unit 3 American Intercontinental University Abstract The selection process of juries was designed to select citizens that were equal peers of the person involved in the trial. However, many disparities exist and the selection process at times seems to be disproportionate relating to race or ethnicity. Reform of the legislature would benefit those that are not being properly served. It is the right of every citizen in this nation to have his or her case decided by a fair and impartial jury. The selection of the jury panel is one of great importance and one that can have a great effect on the outcome of the case. Therefore, it is obvious that the attorneys have a great interest in manipulating the jury selection to include who they may feel would return a favorable verdict for their client. Attorneys generally favor potential jurors that share certain characteristics to include race or gender with their client. The attorneys feel that there is increased empathy when these similarities exist, possibly resulting in a favorable verdict (Frank, 2011). According to a case study of two separate counties, it is obvious that demographics did not play a role in the jury selection process. County A had a population of approximately sixteen thousand with one fourth of the population being African American. Yet only ten to fifteen percent was black. In addition, in the past years not one single black has...
