Flannery O’Conner was a great short story writer because of her original idea’s when it came to civil rights. O'Connor wrote to friends that her favorite story, among those she had written, was "The Artificial Nigger" and that it was "probably the best thing I'll ever write." This story has a lot of elements which wrap around the concept of race which Flannery O’Conner explained in every important detail she could throughout this story.
