This quote relate to “If Beale Street Could Talk” by James Baldwin Published on June 17, 1974. If Beale street could talk is about two lovers, Fonny and Tish, Fonny is charged with a rape case but he is innocent, he was targeted because he is Afr. American. Throughout the story tish talks about memories they had and how she’s trying to get him out of jail. Our world is a cruel place, How it will never change with our racist people.

In the book, A friend of Fonny and Tish, Daniel is telling his story of him in Jail. He says “ They took me down to the precinct and they booked me on narcotics charge.” (107). This shows how African American are targeted for anything, He was caught with Marijuana and was charged like if worse than the most deadliest drug. This was and still is a way to target African American. This is a way of segregation because the fact are we still have racist people everywhere today. He says “We live in a nation of pigs and murders. I’m scared every time your out of my sight.”(141). He said this after he got in a fight with a man trying to touch tish. After the cop, Bell comes and almost arrest Fonny because some italian lady protect him. This quote shows how he is scared at any moment he can be taken away from her. It must be horrible to live in fear of the police because you know that your target everyday because of your race. This shows that racism causes living in fear, knowing that your being target everyday. In conclusion, because of racist people african american have to leave with the fear of being taken
