...As the air rises, it cools and drops its moisture as heavy tropical rains. The resulting cooler, drier air mass moves away from the Equator. As it approaches the tropics, the air descends and warms up again. The descending air hinders the formation of clouds, so very little rain falls on the land below causing the land below to become dry. Cold ocean currents contribute to the formation of coastal deserts. Air blowing toward shore is chilled by contact with cold water which produces a layer of fog. This heavy fog drifts onto land. Although the humidity is high, the atmospheric changes that normally cause rainfall are not present. A coastal desert may be almost totally rainless, yet damp and humid with fog, this is a very interesting and strange process. The Atacama Desert, on the Pacific shores of Chile, is a great example of a coastal desert. Some areas of the Atacama are often covered by fog but the region can...

...How patiently and anxiously the people wait for its arrival. And if unfortunately the rains are delayed, the people go to temples, mosques and churches to say their prayers. Sometimes they perform “yajnas” to please Indra the god of rains. Relief from heat In a hot country like India where the summer is very hot is natural for the people to wish for arrival of rains. The earth gets hot and parched. The ponds and lakes run dry. The water level in the wells sinks low. There is scarcity of water everywhere. The hot winds and dust storms make life miserable. The whole land beards a horrible look. And then rains begin. The dark and rolling clouds cover the burning sun. They hide from the weary looks of the people. A wave of pleasure fills the atmosphere. It is filled with a deep feeling of joy. There is singing and dancing and merry making everywhere. The young ladies swing Thula handing from a neem or peepal tree. They sing songs of love and adventure. The children bathe in the shower. They swim in the little pool of rain water. They shout with joy. Nature at her best The nature is at her best in the rainy season. The old earth becomes young. Her wrinkles change into green and long grasses. Her looks become quite fresh and young. The dry and sandy beds are again alive with flowing water. The murmuring sound of water fills the heaths of the young with pleasure. Importance of rains for agriculture The rainy season is the life of the agriculture in India. The failures...

...soar through the air. A steady drizzle of rain begins to descend from somber clouds; crystal tears landing silently on the pavement. Opaque puddles gather along the crevices and cracks of the soggy ground. Incandescent lightning illuminates the sky and is shortly followed by a deafening rumble. Due to the disruptive, uncontrollable nature of weather, rainstorms can cause stress; however, in the right frame of mind, a storm can be quite calming. With the soothing sound of rain falling, cool, dreary appearance, and warm humid breezes, a storm can be a most relaxing natural setting. Before the storm, the air felt warm and familiar. The atmosphere of the town had for the most part, remained unaltered throughout the eventful day. When the wind came, the aura changed. At first, it was simply a slight cooling that only the tenderness of nerve endings and hair follicles could identify. But now, as the cool wind begins to pick up, it seems to form a frosty blade, which slices through the warm city air. It penetrates the skin of the busy populace, exciting the senses and forcing its way through clothing, funneling through sleeves and out collars. Then, like the cool wind left an empty space, a thin and muggy fog nestles in. Before long, tiny, soft needle-like droplets begin brushing across faces and arms. Abruptly, the rain begins to come in sheets, blown about into shrouds by a nippy breeze. The sultry wind begins violently tossing the rain about, walls of raindrops falling toward the...

...What is the primary difference between a cloud droplet and a raindrop? A typical cloud droplet is 100 times smaller than a raindrop. Clouds are composed of many small droplets. 2. Describe how the process of collision and coalescence produces precipitation. To produce the many collisions necessary to form a raindrop, some cloud droplets must be larger than others. Larger drops may form on large condensation nuclei, such as salt particles, or through random collisions of droplets. The amount of time a droplet spends in a cloud, the larger it will be. In warm clouds (above freezing at all levels) strong updrafts slow the rain drops down, which allows it to grow larger because it spends more time in the cloud. As the droplet grows to 1 mm, the pull of gravity suspends the particle against the updraft. It will eventually collide with other small droplets begin to descend slowly, picking up size and speed. As it falls faster it reaches a size of 5mm at which point it is a rain drop. 4. How does the ice-crystal (Bergeron) process produce precipitation? What is the main premise behind this process? The Bergeron Process proposes that ice crystals and liquid cloud droplets must co-exist in clouds at temperatures below freezing. This process of rain formation is extremely important in middle and high latitudes, where clouds are able to extend upwards into regions where air temperatures are below freezing. These are known as cold clouds. Above the freezing level, liquid water...

...GEO 215 Week 3 DQ 3 How will the deforestation of the Earth’s tropical forests affect the Earth’s temperature or climate? Explain. Response #1 Rainforest grows to large heights and it is important because a growth in the sunlight through the forest canopy can lead to species of the forest not surviving. with the forests getting direct sunlight and over 2 inches of rain an hour, the area is hot and humid. Deforestation is where less heat is absorbed and less moisture is released. The plant life that needs this warm, wet atmosphere will die with more sunlight and less moisture. Deforestation can be related to the growth of drought, flooding and releasing oxygen. Acres of the rainforest is being deforested globally and stored carbon is being released into the atmosphere. The rainforests play a hugh role in the local climate regulation because of the rainforests interaction with the water cycles. The rainforests have an enormous effect on global weather. Rainforests vegetation affect the surface albedo or the surface of the ground absorbing more heat than bare soil. The loss of the rainforest vegetative cover will mean there will be less heat absorption moving on to less moisture being taken up into the atmosphere. The deforested regions may decline the rainfall. Deforestation can affect weather in other parts of the world. There can be a change in the rainfall. The rainforest help generate rainfall over land masses. Response #2 Deforestation affects the climate by escalating...

...Follow your heart I know the sun will rise every morning, even there are clouds. I know the birds sing Melodious songs, because I have heard from the empty enclosure of my room. I know the sky is blue though the clouds, the grass is green even when I stand in the desert. I know the branches of the trees dance into the movement of the wind eventhough the wind still. I the flowers have beautiful smells that the ocean never sleeps, and that rain falls upon high mountains. It has been said, long before these words were written, that if you blind an archway for your heart with neither look your door, life would pass freely through that archway in harmony with your senses. Touch your FRIENDS, HUSBAND or WIFE, and they are strangers no more, hold them as you touch the delicate petals of an orchid, or put your hand in gentle string or feel the sand beneath your feet, or climb upon the rocks on the shoreline. Listen to their words, their breathing, their heartbeat and their footsteps on the stairways they come to you, as you would listen to rain cascading of waterfall or tiny breeze. Speak to them of love, of the harmony of nature, of quiet understanding a moment, the simple things in life which one can find peace of the truth you have found as you would have. Let your mind in actions explode, with all the awareness as you like you’re forgotten lanterns of happiness, as you found the peaceful clearing in the jungle of society.: Love is everywhere. ... The main character in this book is Ed. Ed is a guy that can back up his words and he knows what to do when it comes to hard times. When he found the guys that stole the twenty thousand dollars he put up a fight. He was saying that he would fight them but they had guns. Finally when his pa came they took their guns and Ed fought one of the bad guys and he gave him a good whooping. I like that Ed is a tough guy. I also like that he shows not much fear in others. One last thing that I like about him is that he shows self confidence in himself and I think we all need that sense of self confidence. Three things I don’t care for is his attitude in some ways are that sometimes he gives up. Another thing is he might not have the courage to do some things that might be easy to us. Finally he shows his self- confidence sometimes, you might need to listen to others and trust what they say is true. I can compare myself to Ed (who is the main character) sometimes, because I sometimes have courage to say things when maybe someone else is hurting and just need that feeling of friends helping them through tuff times. A couple things that are different is that I might not have the self confidence that I need very often sometimes. One last thing is sometimes if I make a promise or something like that I might not be able to back up my word like Ed shows he can in the book. From my point of view I think Ed’s dad would be described as a guy who would be a great dad. He teaches his son(ED)...

... What are the favorite symbols in your life? Two of the main characters in this book are Bobby and Nia. Together they have a baby named Feather. These are the symbols of their lives. The first symbol I remember is on Bobby's birthday. Nia brought him a red balloon and it symbolizes that she is pregnant. Bobby didn't know it at the time but she did. The red of the balloon could also symbolize the pain and the trouble that these two teenagers are going to run in to. Next, we see that after Bobby left feather to go play basketball with K-boy & JL, he stopped and realized what he was doing. He turned around and went back to take care of his baby but when he set the ball down it rolls away like his childhood rolling away. As Nia and Bobby go to the first prenatal doctor visit, Nia imagines she's on a field trip. This means she is getting ready to have a baby and they will be parents and they don't know whether to keep the baby or put it up for adoption. So her pretending to be on a field trip is symbolizing her loss of childhood. We see more symbols as Bobby paints a wall in the alley, in the morning and at night. This symbolizes all of his memories. They come as flashbacks all at once. He remembers his childhood and adulthood. He is at the beach with K-boy, JL, & Nia in one memory. In another, he is at the Museum of Natural History. These were happy childhood times for him before he had to grow up. Bobby has a lot of flashbacks of Nia in the coma that remind him he has...

...significance weather holds in storytelling. Literally speaking, weather has the power to directly affect a character, whether they become soaked from the rain or sweaty from the heat. Symbolically speaking, weather means much more than a few drops of water, or a thermometer reaching one hundred degrees. Overall, Foster discusses three types of weather throughout this chapter: rain, fog and snow. Firstly, rain, “the principal element of spring”, possess transformative qualities and can symbolically cleanse a character (73). Rain, when mixed with a little sunlight can fashion symbolic, “divine promise[s]” and “peace between heaven and earth” (74). These celestial pacts, known as rainbows, are literally very rare, but commonly hard to miss. Symbolically, rainbows represent miracles and are just as important as they are beautiful. Although rain can demonstrate symbolic rebirth, and is capable of creating miraculous rainbows, a downpour can also form mud and induce a character to become...

...opportunities, all in contrast makes California more desirable place to live than Florida. Introduction California is one of the best and desirable places to live in the world. In the winter of 1987, I was living in Florida city, one morning I got up to go to work, the day was very nice from one minute to the next the sky started to get dark, darker clouds cover the sky. People at the trailer park was so fearful, they started to run to shelter places, they were right that day, it rained so hard, and it was lightning and thundering, the winds were so strong that, it could take a tree up from his roots. The people who did not have enough time to run to the shelter place, suffer very big loss, the next day I went to the town to look around, the little city was devastating, windows from business broken, trees were laid on the streets, cars were upside down, and broken homes all destroyed, it was a disaster that I will never like to re-live again, and it was a big experience in my life. I. First main point. California’s tropical weather makes life enjoyable, when the rain is falling it rains so smoothly that it is hardly any lighting or thundering to the point for people to get scare, everybody drives to do their activities enjoying the rainy day. The rainy season bring many activities for people to enjoy, people go fishing out in the ocean, some people go whale watching, others go Jet Skid, or snow skid at the mountain of Big bear, from November through...

This book is more about the important events in Moore’s life: how he got to the west point, side trip to the Dien Bien Phu, assignments to Korea, leaderships lesson and views on warfare. Review 3. Lt. Gen. Harold Moore has written his interesting life in this short book. It is only partially tied to the 1965 battle in the La Drang valley, still he had described some events of 1993 when he, Joe Galloway, a few veterans and a couple of north Vietnamese officer meet to reflect, re-live and celebrate sacrifice on both side and they even holds hands and pray for them. 4. This book is their story of completing the circle, of putting to rest the combat demons that try men's souls. It also shows that how war changed them all, as well as the two countries. It was an emotional journey both back to the past and to the future as Moore and Galloway examine how that battle impacted their lives and their soldiers' lives forever. 5. The chapter on leadership pertains to the realities of life whether in the military or fighting the corporate wars of today. The chapter on war related...

...sound around my ear; I knew some kind of bee around me. I was terrified that night because I would look horrible if I got stung. I immediately blew the candle so the bee couldn’t see me. Lucky me, it flew away after a few minutes. Bumble bees are a big nightmare to me. So every time I see bees, I remember that night. It was a scary night but also a memory in summer. Bumble bees are friendly to some people but it is my enemy. Summer is the season of rain, thunderstorm and lightning. Everyone likes rain because it cleans out all the dirt and pollen from the trees. When I see rain, I remember my six- grade school year in my country. Back then, we wore uniform when we went to school with a white top, blue bottom and a tie. I didn’t know it will rain that day, and I rode a bike to school. When I rode back home, on the way I started to see dark cloud and hear “boom, boom, bang” from thunderstorm, “hu, hu, hu’” from the wind. Also, the moment I started to shiver because I didn’t bring an umbrella. Five minutes later, the pelting rain “xi, xi, xao, xu” pours down on me like...
