On a crisp, fall Minnesota morning, Randale woke and headed into the darkness of the woods. The only light that could be seen was a sole beam, which came from the headlamp strapped to his hat. The leaves below his feet crunched with each step. Soon he arrived at his deer stand, and the sun began to rise. The sun reflected off of a swamp near him. Around the swamp grew cattails about three feet tall. Off in the distance sat many trees, a mixture of oak and pines. To the other side was an open field with corn growing up from the ground. This elk was the talk of the town. Many hunters had seen the elk on their hunts but never had the opportunity to take him down. Randale’s turn to hunt him had come, and he began his quest. Starting from the top of the mountain, him and his guide walked. Dan, his guide, was from Montana and knew all about elk hunting. Dan knew all of the best spots. He experienced many hunts over the years. He tried his best to lead Randale to the trophy. “This elk is no ordinary one. Randale took out his binoculars to search the valley for any signs of an elk. By this point the snow stopped, so he could see clearly through the lens of the binoculars. As he looked around, he spotted a herd of brown and tan that covered all the area of the binoculars. The sight of all the elk amazed Randale. Dan took his binoculars too and searched for the trophy elk. At the front of the herd he spotted the monster elk, but the trees prevented Randale from taking a shot at him, and the herd walked off into the distance.
