The Location and Size of the Randwick City Council Community:

The Randwick city community is large as it is comprised of a number of suburbs including: Clovelly, Chifley, Kingsford, Coogee, Kensington, Randwick, Little Bay, Matraville, Maroubra, Malabar, La Perouse-Phillip Bay and South Coogee (Randwick City Council, 2014, p.4). The community is located in the southeastern suburbs of Sydney (Figure 1.1), and stretches from Centennial Park to Little Bay. The area occupied by the Randwick City Council Community is 36.3 square kilometers. As well as this, the population of the community is estimated to be 145 822 as of the 30th of June 2015 (Australian Bureau of Statistics, 2015).

This is largely due to a steady increase in tourism and usage of Maroubra beach, with a larger amount of usage resulting in a larger amount of people littering.
Impacts of Cause 2:
Environmental Impacts: The environmental impacts of this cause are alarming with the strong possibility of the alteration of ecosystems as well as the deaths of marine life.
Social and Human Impacts: The social and human impacts of the pollution of Maroubra beach are focused around the deterioration of water quality. It is disgusting to swim in rubbish, and this rubbish can have detrimental effects on the water purity. The breakdown of plastic in the ocean can increase harmful impurities in water and consequently kill coral reefs.
Impacts on Tourism and Usage: Based on a survey I conducted on a total of 30 beach users, 70% claimed that they would turn to other beaches if Maroubra Beach became over polluted (Figure 2.3). 63% thought that the daily cleaning of the beach was a necessary initiative to continue (Figure
