...Gail Holmewood “They deported my brother because they say he is economic migrant not political refugee Huh! They know nothing about how they treat gypsies in Central Europe. But what do you know? How can you help me?” In this essay I will describe the client and my reactions to the client. What are power, rank, oppression, minority, racism, diversity, prejudices, and worldview? How I will work in anti- oppressive way. What I can offer this client. What difficulties I envisage. Conclusion. , An economic migrant is someone who comes from the EEA, and who makes a voluntary choice to leave their home country and seek work else where. They have a legal right to travel and to work in different countries within the EU. A political refugee is someone who flees from a stat or country or regime because their political views leave them in danger of persecution even death so that they flee to a friendly nation for protection. My client is a 22 year old Eastern European Caucasian male. He is of average height, has dark brown eyes and short jet black hair. His clothes of jeans, a sweat shirt and trainers are of a shabby appearance and he emits a strong unpleasant body odour. His spoken English is quite good although at times it is not always clear, so I feel that I will have to do a lot of clarification with him. At this stage I do not think it is necessary...

...Rokeach Values Survey After completing the Rokeach Values Survey, I think my results may be slightly comparable to others’ assessment results. For those who have high spiritual values, then they like me would rank Salvation as #1. Someone who may not be as concerned about their souls (per say) would not rank Salvation #1. Someone who has Salvation ranked lower on their assessment may knowingly commit sin on a daily basis and not care. They may not be concerned with taking the necessary actions to have a saved, eternal life. Even though I and someone else may not score Salvation the same does not mean we cannot interact with one another. We may not hang out together (i.e. going to clubs) we may have other things in common such as sports or maybe politics. Another summarization of someone scoring different than myself would be ranking Pleasure #7. As much as I enjoy a leisurely life, I believe work comes first. If you work hard you can play hard. Someone else may believe play hard now and work hard later. I believe that this person and I could possibly learn from each other even though are rankings are different. Sometimes working hard can lead to stress, unnecessary stress. If I interact with the person who ranks Pleasure higher, they can possibly show me how to relieve some of that stress by putting my work aside and letting my hair down. I in turn can show them that if they work a little harder they can play a little harder. In regards to “Instrumental...

...Group Theory Unit 8, Journal 2 – Managing Conflict See also the section on Conflict as a Mutual Problem, pages 372-385 Describe a situation from your life for each of the following 4 scenarios that demonstrates the difference between the following: 1. Issues versus Personalities One instance that I can recall pertaining to this scenario is while on active duty deployment to Spain I was given a task with zero specific direction on how to accomplish said task. Now to explain why this is important, the task could have been accomplish 3 different ways, the easy way which took less time and people to accomplish, the in between area which is easy but takes a little more time because you pay a little more attention to certain tasks, and the best way, which isn’t ideal because we didn’t have the number of people required, the amount of equipment needed or the extra materials needed. The work being done was necessary but repairing it vs destruction and construction of a new one was less costly and more logical. The chief was having a bad day so when I asked him he just screamed “Work with what you got!” So did the less costly method and repaired the structure. Chief decided it was the wrong way and when I asked him why he didn’t tell me that in the beginning he wrote me up for insubordination. Chiefs personality interfered with his ability to give me accurate operational orders causing me to do the task the proper way but not exactly how he wanted. 2. Interests versus...

...Memorandum To: CC: From: Date: Re: The Cincinnati Enquirer Kristen DelGuzzi Ashley N. Ear; September 16, 2007 Data Analysis of Hamilton County Judges Probabilities used to assist with Ranking of Hamilton County Judges After the current statistics were gathered to produce data analysis regarding Hamilton County Judges, we can come to a conclusion and rank judges appropriately by their probability to be appealed, reversed and a combination of the both. With the provided data analysis, I have included statistics to all probabilities including: total cases disposed, appealed cases, reversed cases, probability of appeal, rank by probability of appeal, probability of reversal, rank by probability of reversal, conditional probability of reversal given appeal, rank by conditional probability of reversal given appeal and overall sum of ranks. The judges that rank the highest (i.e. 1st, 2nd, 3rd) have the lowest probability to have appealed cases, reversed cases and lowest conditional probability of reversed cases given appeal. In my opinion, by ranking the judges as such, we can see how often their ruling is upheld, which is ultimately desirable when concerning the credibility of a judge. I have provided rankings for all three different courts including: Common Pleas Court, Domestic Relations Court and Municipal Court. These overall rankings are gathered by summing up all of the rankings by the three probability variables. I have also provided data analysis which interprets who...

...Being disciplined in the UPS in the UK is vital in order to achieve Operational effectiveness throughout the country. Without discipline the country would be in a state of both social disorder and anarchy. Operational effectiveness is also important so that the UPS can prevent the country running into either social disorder or a state of anarchy. It keeps our country civilised. Outline – In this assignment I am going to cover the rank structure of 2 public services, including pictures of the rank slides by introducing and explaining the responsibilities of each rank, I am going to define discipline and talk about the rules and regulations needed for operation effectiveness, I am going to discuss social order, disorder and anarchy, I am going to answer a question of “why do orders need to be followed?”, I will discuss how maintaining discipline with rewards and punishments is effective, team spirit, and the rules, procedures, policies and legislations in the UPS in which encourage discipline. P1 Task 1 In my assignment I have done two separate rank structures in which I have attached to the back of this assignment in the form of two separate documents. P1 Task 2 1. Definitions of discipline 2. The necessity for rules and regulations (set standards and clear instructions =operational effectiveness) 3. Why orders need to be followed (control in dangerous situations =operational effectiveness) 4. Maintaining order with rewards and punishment 5. Consequences...

...Brigade Manager | | | Assistant Brigade Manager | | Uniform structure Originally the first fire tunic was based on a “lancer” uniform with epaulettes and the rank marking based on cavalry insignia. The uniform itself “consisted of 12.5mm bars, horseshoes, straps and different thickness of chain mail.” Eventually during the 1960′s it was changed and the undress uniform insignia was used on “fire tunics”. When the next uniform was introduced it had no epaulettes consequently cloth ranks markings were used so that there was no need to puncture the water proof material. However the Fire and Rescue Services now fix the rank markings to the collar of their uniforms except were formal undress uniforms are used and then they use the epaulettes. Describe how the chain of command works within the a service The chain of command is essential within all uniformed public services in particular it is essential for the Fire Service. One reason for this would be discipline as it is necessary within a service like this because there isn’t time for people to argue or discuss how they’re going to complete a job. If a team of fireman were going at an incident, the ranked fireman would be in their places doing what higher ranks have told them to do and it makes them an effective team. It’s also important for the different ranks to respect they’re higher ranking colleagues because they have not only earnt it but are experienced enough to plan how they’re going to do something. This is why...

...head snaps forward. You peak only when spoken to, and you listen. The position shows a lot without saying them. Three expressions shown by this position are showing respect, courtesy, and the private knowing their place in the rank of the Army. Showing respect to a NCO demonstrates a few different intentions of lower ranking enlisted personnel. By standing at Parade Rest, one proves that they don’t have as much experience as the NCO does, thus exhibiting respect to them. For example, when a NCO is teaching someone, they show their respect by standing at this position. This shows the mutual respect given to the NCO. Also, let’s say that the Joe may not like the NCO as a person. But, by standing at Parade Rest, they are showing that they do respect the rank; meaning the training and experience the NCO has. As an American soldier, you are taught to be courteous and good natured; not only to their follow Americans, but also to their NCO’s and officers. By standing at Parade Rest for an NCO, you are being polite to them. For example, when they are addressing a group its polite to stand at this position for them. Being polite to an NCO goes a long way. Also having the lower enlisted men stand at this position shows that they know where they stand in the ranks when it comes to respect and politeness. Show the higher ranking officials that you understand your place is a sign that you hold them in high regard. In the army food chain, one must keep their place until...

In doing so, the inventory provides a point-in-time picture of your particular orientation to conflict, reflected in the circular graph or "profile circumplex" below. LSI Conflict measures three conflict orientations: Constructive (colored blue), Passive/Defensive (colored green), and Aggressive/Defensive (colored red). Higher scores for the 11, 12, 1, and 2 o'clock styles reflect a CONSTRUCTIVE conflict orientation. Individuals exhibiting these styles deal with conflict effectively; they see conflict situations as opportunities for personal growth, treat opponents as respected equals, and tend to have a goal beyond winning or losing which enables them to benefit regardless of the conflict's outcome. Higher scores for the 3, 4, 5, and 6 o'clock styles reflect a PASSIVE/DEFENSIVE conflict orientation. In general, individuals with these styles are threatened by conflict and assume a passive approach. They believe conflict is unnecessary and destructive and prefer to avoid it. ...In the given scenario the problem projected by the police captain is that the young officers who come to the police force are not at all good at doing paper work, they find it boring and hate it. They are much interested to stay out on the streets, either in cars or on a beat instead of doing paper work while sitting in the office. They frequently put off the job or do it inadequately which results in unclear and ambiguous reports which cause the police department to lose court cases. Another problem is that the captain is finding it difficult to figure out the possible ways to motivate them to do the paper work effectively and efficiently. There are various problems related to the employee motivation, ability of officers to perform task, lack of role perception and different situational factors. ...ROTC Application Essay I could not say that I have always aspired to become an Army Officer. However, once I joined the ranks of the enlisted, it quickly became clear to me the path I needed to pursue. Initially, I had joined the Army with the intent of completing my four-year contract and then promptly using my Montgomery GI Bill to earn my higher education. From the moment I arrived at my first duty station, I have attempted to excel in every challenge bestowed upon me by my superiors. From physical fitness to numerous tasks within and outside the realm of my Military Occupation Specialty (MOS), I never failed to exceed standards and expectations. Thus, I was moved to loftier positions and given additional responsibilities. Being enlisted in the Army now for three years and seeing what I have been able to accomplish in that time, I know that I am capable of overcoming even greater challenges. In continuously striving to better myself as an individual, the Army has been critical in helping me grow as both a team member and as a leader. In my experience thus far, I find myself always looking up to the commissioned officers I encounter. The standards to which they hold themselves, the level of confidence and trust they inspire in their subordinates, the physical standards they adhere to, and the manner in which they carry themselves, firmly reinforces the title and image they hold as leaders of today's finest men and women. Being encouraged and supported by many of my...
