Raoul Wallenberg Raoul Wallenberg was a rescuer during the Holocaust and has saved over 100,000 Jews. However Wallenberg wasn’t just a rescuer he was also a Swedish diplomat, businessman, and architect. His life consist of helping others and trying to do the right thing. Wallenbergs life had always been different from the average person from his early life to his mystery of a death but his legacy will live on (“Raoul Wallenberg”). The early life of Raoul Wallenberg has been different. He has never liked violence and would avoid it at all cost. Before he went to Budapest he was a trainee for a trading company in Sweden. Wallenberg has always been a caring person who would do anything for anybody. Another reason for his involvement in the Holocaust would be because his Great Great Grandmother was a Jew. Although he did not know her very well the thought that it could've been him pushed him further towards getting involved. Some of Wallenbergs final words before he left to Budapest was “I am going to leave you now for one reason; to save as many lives as possible; to rescue Jews from the claws of those murderer (Lyman 103-110). Wallenberg soon after went to Budapest and he would arrive on July 9 (“Raoul Wallenberg”). Wallenberg’s strategy to save the Jews was to give out fake passports. His passports was called “Schutz Passes”. “Schutz Passes” were fake documents that said whoever …show more content…
Wallenberg's life was strange but also he also achieved great things during that time. Although Wallenberg is dead his legacy lives forever. Raoul Wallenberg lived a life that would be remembered forever for his courageous actions during the Holocaust. Wallenberg was a brave man, he would bluff his way out of a situation and managed to save people he didn’t even know. Wallenbergs mission to save the Jews brought nations together for the greater good. His life will never be forgotten for the unknown people. Wallenberg saved many lives from the “murders” as he called them. One man, that saved 100,000 people (“Raoul Wallenberg”).
Wallenbergs life adventure from his early life, to getting involved in the Holocaust , then rescuing thousands of Jews, finally to his death but his legacy lives on. The life of Raoul Wallenberg, a man of the people who would do anything for them. Wallenbergs compassion and courage brought people together after his disappearance to find him. All over the world monuments were made in his honor. In 1981 Wallenberg was granted honorary citizenship which has only been given once before to Winston Churchill.
