On October 10, 2015 I attended a performance of King Lear, directed by Raphael Parry at Addison Circle Park. The tragedy was performed by Shakespeare Dallas as a part of their Shakespeare in the Park program. The play follows the narrative of King Lear, who loses everything as a result of his foolishness and egotistical behavior. Parry accentuates the theme of tragedy through his use of dramatic lighting effects which revealed the inner most thoughts of the characters, utilization of timed sound effects announcing the change in scene or character, and the manipulation of the outdoor stages to increase overall immersion.
