...International Seminar Professor Warren Matthias Haufe 09/20/2003 An Essay of self-introduction. Coming to a new place and meeting a lot of new people naturally includes introducing oneself for quite a number of times. But as Fyodor Dostoyevsky lets his narrator in the Letters from the Underworld say: “By the way, what is it that all respectable men talk about most readily? Answer – about themselves. So I too will talk about myself.”1 So I will join in and as I have done for a hundred times this past week I will happily introduce myself another time, this time in writing and in essay style. My name is Matthias Haufe and I am from Erlangen, a beautiful town in the northern part of Bavaria, Germany. The surrounding region is known as Frankonia, which I mention, because quite a few people there pride themselves as being Frankonians rather than Bavarians. There I spent the past thirteen years of my life, going to school, doing my civil service and later attending university. Before that I had lived in a small German village for six years and in Tokyo, Japan for four years. So if one takes all the aforementioned numbers they amount to 23, which is also my age. Having mentioned university, the question immediately arising is of course that of what I study. I major in English and Religion and minor in History and before I came here I had just finished the fifth semester of my studies. The goal of my studies is to become a teacher in a German “Gymnasium“, which roughly corresponds...

...they are able capture all audiences. Social media marketing and innovation are essential components that organizations use today. In today’s society, social media is a given as a marketing tool to most companies. It increases more awareness about a brand as well as reaches a broader, more global audience. Successful organizations evolve their product or service to align with market trends and segments. Prince Sports is an example of an established company that has innovated its products, utilized grass roots marketing techniques and social media to target younger audiences as well as expand the brand globally. “Prince Sports is a racquet sports company whose portfolio of brands includes Prince (tennis, Squash and badminton), Ektelon (raquetball), and Viking (platform/paddle tennis). Its complete line of tennis products alone is astounding: more than 150 racquet models; over 50 footwear models; more than 50 tennis strings; and countless types of bags,...

...Adviesrapport 3 jaars-stage Red Bull e pagina 1 Adviesrapport Red Bull Sport Usage Naam: Studentnummer: Mailadres: Niels Schouten 193255 niels.schouten@hva.nl Afgedrukt 20 januari 2009 Red Bull Adviesrapport 3 jaars-stage Red Bull e pagina 2 Voorwoord Dit adviesrapport is bedoeld voor Red Bull Nederland afdeling Sport Usage.

...Chapter 1 Discrete Probability Distributions 1.1 Simulation of Discrete Probabilities Probability In this chapter, we shall first consider chance experiments with a finite number of possible outcomes ω1 , ω2 , . . . , ωn . For example, we roll a die and the possible outcomes are 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 corresponding to the side that turns up. We toss a coin with possible outcomes H (heads) and T (tails). It is frequently useful to be able to refer to an outcome of an experiment. For example, we might want to write the mathematical expression which gives the sum of four rolls of a die. To do this, we could let Xi , i = 1, 2, 3, 4, represent the values of the outcomes of the four rolls, and then we could write the expression X 1 + X 2 + X 3 + X4 for the sum of the four rolls. The Xi ’s are called random variables. A random variable is simply an expression whose value is the outcome of a particular experiment. Just as in the case of other types of variables in mathematics, random variables can take on different values. Let X be the random variable which represents the roll of one die. We shall assign probabilities to the possible outcomes of this experiment. We do this by assigning to each outcome ωj a nonnegative number m(ωj ) in such a way that m(ω1 ) + m(ω2 ) + · · · + m(ω6 ) = 1 . The function m(ωj ) is called the distribution function of the random variable X. For the case of the roll of the die we would assign equal probabilities or probabilities 1/6 to each of the outcomes....
