Ray Rice Ethical Analysis

The article I am choosing to discuss for this weeks critical response is the one focused around Ray Rice and his indefinitely suspension. Most people are aware of the situation that happened between Ray Rice and his now wife that happened in the casino elevator but the events that happened after that incident is where the ethical and moral issues come into play. In the article it discusses how the Ravens supported Rice at first but then changed their mind after the video was released. From the article the Ravens said they heard a “softer” version of the events that happened in the elevator. I’m not sure how a story about an NFL player hitting his wife can be made into a “soft” version. I think that the Ravens had known all along of what …show more content…
This article altogether has various ethical and moral issues. For starts as I started to explain before if indeed the Ravens had known the full story was it ethical of them to try and keep the story on the DL. They may have done this to keep Rice as a player but also because of the negative cogitation not only the Ravens as a team would be portrayed at but the NFL as a whole. In todays world professional sports players are looked to at as heroes to not only kids but to adults as well. Obviously a man who physical hurts his wife is looked at as a wife batterer. Is the same for someone who is an NFL player and commits the same crime? I believe that it is immoral to treat athletes different than just a normal individual. Just because someone plays on a professional sports team doesn’t mean that they don’t have to obey the same rules and laws as the rest of the population. Yes athletes can probably afford a better defense attorney who in turn can help them win the case but overall athletes should be held to the same standard as everyone else. That’s just the moral thing to do. Obviously you have individuals who believe Rice did nothing wrong and they still support him by wearing his jersey on game day and protesting outside the stadium but what message does that send to the

Food Security Issue

...Fedoroff Agric & Food Secur (2015) 4:11 DOI 10.1186/s40066-015-0031-7 Open Access REVIEW Food in a future of 10 billion Nina V Fedoroff* Abstract  Over the past two centuries, the human population has grown sevenfold and the experts anticipate the addition of 2–3 billion more during the twenty-first century. In the present overview, I take a historical glance at how humans supported such extraordinary population growth first through the invention of agriculture and more recently through the rapid deployment of scientific and technological advances in agriculture. I then identify future challenges posed by continued population growth and climate warming on a finite planet. I end by discussing both how we can meet such challenges and what stands in the way. Keywords:  Population growth, Agriculture, Domestication, Genetic modification, Technology Background Today we have enough food to meet the world’s needs. Indeed, we have an extraordinary global food system that brings food from all over the planet to consumers who can afford to buy it. The food price spike of 2008 and the resurgence of high food prices in recent years have had little impact on the affluent citizens of the developed world who spend a small fraction of their income on food. By contrast, food prices have a profound impact on the world’s poorest people. Many of them spend half or more of their income on food. During the food price crisis of 2008, there were food riots in more than...

Relativism * There is no universal standard by which morality can be judged * What is correct for one society may be wrong for another * Ethics and morality are relative ( is it ethical to pay bribes) Relativism – Problems * There are no absolutes - murder, slavery, torture, rape OK * What is meant by a society? Sub-societies, country, subsountry, block, indv * Leads to conclusion - each person’s opinion is correct * Nothing that anyone does is morally wrong 2. Egoism Most Widely Used Concept * One ought to act in his or her own self interest * Ethical behavior is that which promotes one’s own self interest * Does not mean should not obey laws - only do so if in self interest * Problem - Externalities associated with private actions - OK to dump toxic wastes as long as don’t get caught * EX: we all have a little of this in us speeding 75 see a cop and slow to 55mph 3. Utilitarianism * The morality of an action can be determined by its consequences * An action is ethical if it promotes the greatest good for the greatest number * Perform Moral Cost Benefit analysis * Benefit> Cost ETHICAL Cost > Benefit UNETHICAL * EX: Harry Truman dropping bomb on Japanese * Problem : How do you quantify the benefits...

Green Banking Practices of Commercial Banks in Bangladesh

...Chapter- 1 Introduction and Design of the chapter ▪ Introduction ▪ Scope of the study ▪ Objectives of the study ▪ Methodology ▪ Limitation of the study 1.1 Introduction: A bank is a financial institution, where people secure their money and use this institution as a source of possible finance. Banking in the form in which it exists nowadays is comparatively of recent origin. Before the advent of modern banking, direct finance, where the owner of capital deals directly with the user of capital, was the customary mode of transference of funds from savers to investors. Now, banks are engaged in various functions i.e., receiving, collecting, transferring, paying, lending, investing, dealing, exchanging, and servicing money and claims to money both locally and internationally. Bangladesh is a country suffering from immense social, political, economic and environmental issues and these issues need to be addressed for the overall development of this country. However, we all know that the people of the whole world are concerned about the environmental degradation, especially the rising of global temperature and thereby melting of glaciers and ice-berg in the polar region and consequently rising of sea level, which will directly affect the low lying countries...

Electricity consumption from the five sectors (residential, commercial, transportation, industrial, and agricultural) were calculated using different models and assumptions. These values were projected to the year 2045 in order to predict the total electricity demand on the daily, weekly, monthly and yearly bases. There is an average of 262.28 MW demand from the computed consumptions which was translated to fuel requirements considering the existing, upcoming, decommissioning, and the reserve. A total of 284.77 MW plant capacity was calculated for 2045. Assuming that bituminous coal will be used as the main fuel for running a Coal-fired powerplant in the future, a fuel requirement of 12.25...
