Raymond Kilgore was always big on safety of others. He worked in construction on most theme parks in Florida. Grandpa Ray and his coworkers turned friends always got the job done. He always made sure his coworkers were safe and secure when on construction sites. On this particular day the sun was bright and everything was going right. During this time they were working on Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Grandpa Ray and John was working on putting bricks on a restaurant being built on the strip of the theme park. The tractor was being used by Julio, another constructor, to put bricks higher up that could not be reached by others. John stepped out in front of the tractor. Julio, who didn’t seem to be paying attention, reached the crane out to get a brick and almost snagged …show more content…
He almost foreclosed on his house. Raymond’s wife Annie got a letter in the mail telling her that the medicine she takes everyday to keep her alive, would not be covered by her insurance. Raymond found the letter laying around and decided to handle it. Coincidentally, he had to pay his and his wife’s six hundred dollar house taxes for the year. Without her knowledge he took three hundred of it and payed for her medication not knowing how he was going to pay their house taxes. Lucky for him someone from the Lakeland Tax Collector’s office payed off their house taxes because they heard about his compassionate behavior around the city.
Grandpa Ray’s actions in those to stories is why I feel he’s memorable. He did things for others not caring about how bad it could affect him. Jumping in front of that tractor ended bad for him but benefited someone else. Using his tax money helped his wife get her medication but would have made them lose their house if it wasn’t for someone else stepping in. Grandpa Ray impacted my life and others with these two stories. I hope that there is more people in the world like my grandpa. His actions will forever be memorable to
