...RC Time Constant Purpose: The purpose of this experiment is to show how a capacitor charges and discharges exponentially. It is also to determine the time constant of an RC circuit. Equipment: 2 resistors, 2 capacitors, power amplifier, Digital multmeter, interface box, computer Theory: A capacitor charges exponentially, that is that initially charge accumulates easily on the plates but then it becomes increasingly difficult to keep adding charge to the capacitor. This is because more work is required to add more charge when there is already charges with the same sign already there. The charge on the plates is modelled by the equation q = q0 (1-e -t/RC) = q0 (1-e -t/τ). In the experiment, instead of measuring charge, voltage is measured and then compared to charge with the equation q = CV. Since τ = RC at time t, the voltage across capacitor is a value of 1 – 1/e of V0 which is 0.63 of V0. The discharge of the capacitor is calculated with the equation of V = V0 e-t/RC = V0 e-t/τ. After a certain time, V = V0 e-1 = V0/e = 0.37 V0. Procedure: In the first part of the experiment, the first step is to measure the resistance of Resistors 1 and 2, as well as the resistance of the two resistors connected in parallel and in series. Then, the capacitance of capacitors 1 and 2 is measured, as well as the equivalent capacitance of them connected in series and parallel. In the second part of the experiment, the time constant of an RC circuit is measured...

...During the 1960s and 1970s, India’s economy faced many challenges, growing only an average of 3–3.5 percent per year. Numerous obstacles hindered foreign companies from investing in India, and many restrictions on eco- nomic activity caused huge difficulties for Indian firms and a lack of interest among foreign investors. For many years the government had problems with implementing reform and overcoming bureaucratic and political divi- sions. Business activity has traditionally been undervalued in India; leisure is typically given more value than work. Stemming from India’s colonial legacy, Indians are highly suspicious of foreign investors. Indeed, there have been a few well-publicized disputes between the Indian govern- ment and foreign investors. 3 More recently, however, many Western companies are finding an easier time doing business in India. 4 In 1991, political conditions had changed, many restrictions were eased, and economic reforms came into force. With more than 1 billion consumers, India has become an increas- ingly attractive market. 5 From 2003–2006, foreign invest- ment doubled to $6 billion. Imported goods have become a status symbol for the burgeoning middle class. 6 In 2008/09 FDI in India stood at $27.31 billion. 7 In 2009, India was the third highest recipient of FDI and was likely to continue to remain among the top five attractive destinations for international investors during the following two years, according...

...Finding Great Companied to Invest In Warren Buffet, Chairman of Berkshire Hathaway says, “It is best to invest in great companies at a fair price than a fair company at a great price.” That’s a pinnacle statement about Buffet’s investment style. So, to invest like Buffet, you need to know what features denote a great company. Please read and reread the following carefully. A great company has a competitive advantage. It has a consumer monopoly, and like a great fortress, has a moat preventing others from capitalizing on it. A competitive advantage is created by producing a unique product or service over a long period of time and being perceived as the leader in the field. Buffett refers to this as a “durable competitive advantage.” Many of these great companies have been around for a hundred or more years. Coca Cola, one of his favorites, exemplifies this concept, as do several others. American Express and Wells Fargo have also been around for a century. (Interesting, the latter two were founded by the same people.) So, on the flip side, let’s look at the stocks Buffett avoids. He really hates companies that are involved in something that is price sensitive. Automobile manufactures are a prime example. Most people don’t care if they have a Ford, GM, or Chrysler. They want a great deal, instead. Because these companies must constantly fight to get a customer, they must constantly upgrade and improve their product by investing lots of money in new automobiles and their...

...ESE 215 Introduction to Circuits and Systems Prepared by: The Task Group on ESE 215-205 N. Farhat, N. Engheta, J. Keenan, and V. Vuchic Background, Philosophy, and Motivation: Over the past few decades, the scope of electrical engineering (ESE in the context of our department) has expanded to a degree where the discipline risks effacement by diffusion [1]. This calls for hard thinking on how to reform traditional course offerings in our discipline in order to avoid incoherent bifurcations forced from the outside and to preserve its identity in view of profound changes taking place. We are not alone. Similar reforms are being discussed in physics education [2]. We as a relatively newly formed department of Electrical and Systems Engineering have had a head start in thinking about this issue recognizing that the challenge is to forge something better than the sum of its parts. This draft proposal is an attempt at reforming the present introductory Circuits and Systems course in our curriculum in order to partly meet this challenge. We have changed the course title to indicate that it will deal with “circuits and systems” concepts in a broader sense than the traditional electrical circuits alone. Our goal is that the course encompass electrical, optical (plasmonic), mechanical, fluidic, biological, neural, transportation, chemical, and ecological “circuits” and systems. Biochemical logic circuits using DNA-binding proteins, and bistable gene-regulatory...

...the value of resistance and capacitance in an RC circuit effect the charge time of the capacitor. We will also study time constant of a RC circuit. A circuit containing a resistor connected in series with a capacitor is called a RC circuit. When a charged capacitor discharges through a resistance, the potential difference across the capacitor decreases exponentially. The RC time constant is equal to the product of the circuit resistance and the circuit capacitance. It is the time required to charge or discharge the capacitor, through the resistor. Equipment: Two resistors Two capacitors Power Amplifier One DMM Interface box Computer Theory: When a uncharged capacitor is connected across a DC voltage source, the rate at which it charges up decreases as the time passes. At first, the capacitor is easily charged because there is very little charge present on the plates, but as charge accumulates on the plates, the voltage source must do more work in order to move additional charges onto the plates since the plates already have charge of the same sign on them. As a result, the capacitor charges exponentially, quickly at the beginning and more slowly as the capacitor becomes fully charged. The charge on the plates at any time is given by the equation shown below: q = q0 (1 - e^ -t/RC) = q0 (1 - e^ -t/τ) In this equation, q is the maximum charge on the plates and τ is the capacitive time constant. For τ = RC, R is resistance and C is capacitance. In...

...Letter about the local football derby Dear City Gazette I was going to the local derby this sunday with my little kid. He was very exited about the match. We were going to see The City Rangers play against Capital United. In my family we have always cheered for The City Rangers, and my kid has also got a City Rangers football jersey. At 20:00 my son and I took off from the house and drove over to the football stadium. It was a warm evening and me and my son were both wearing City Rangers jerseys, and we were very exited for the game. When we arrived at the stadium we went over to buy some tickets, and we found our seats in the stadium. I am not very often at football games but my son really wanted to go and see our team live. The game started. The people in our section were yelling and screaming a lot, and after a while I found out that we were sitting in the hooligan area. My son was very scared of the drunk men, and suddenly they started to light roman candles and throw bottles and burning flags onto the pitch. I went into panic mode and my son and I left the stadium quick when the game was over. But when the hooligans came outside the stadium, they started fighting the Capital United fans. Bottles were thrown, people were bleeding, and people couldn’t get over to their cars because of the hooligans. When the police got the two hooligan groups separated me and my son could finally get over to my car. My son was crying and i tried to comfort him by saying that we...

...Discussion Post #2 Week Two NURS 6513, N-5 As a nurse practitioner, one must be culturally sensitive when caring for patients. The key to cultural competence is having a sensitivity toward a person?s heritage, sexual orientation, ethnic background, and socio-economical status (Ball, Dain, Flynn, Solomon, & Stewart, 2015, p. 22). The advance practice nurse (APN) needs to be aware of the various health practices of many cultures and care for them with the understanding that economic, social, cultural, racial, & ethnicity all play a role in the health care practices of each. For the purpose of discussing cultural differences, I chose case number two, the pregnant lesbian presenting for an annual visit complaining of malodorous vaginal discharge. The APN must be sure to facilitate a level of trust with all patients no matter their background, ethnicity, race, or sexual orientation. The patient in case two is a pregnant lesbian that sees an obstetrician for prenatal visits; her pregnancy is without complication. The patient is in the office for an annual visit. However, she states that she is experiencing malodorous, white vaginal discharge. According to Singer (2012), lesbians are more likely to trust a healthcare provider who has cultural sensitivity. It is imperative that the caregiver treats the homosexual first and foremost as a woman, without putting too much emphasis on the lesbian relationship. As a provider, one must be careful to use inclusive language, so the...

...Radar Cross Section (RCS) and the techniques to reduce RCS of a target By:- Namit Ohri - 12213010 Amit Vashisht – 12213004 Nikhil Harsoor – 12213011 Seemant Meena - 12116052 Introduction Definition Radar cross section(RCS) is the measure of a target's ability to reflect radar signals in the direction of the radar receiver, i.e. it is a measure of the ratio of backscatter power per steradian (unit solid angle) in the direction of the radar (from the target) to the power density that is intercepted by the target. Informally, the RCS of an object is the cross-sectional area of a perfectly reflecting sphere that would produce the same strength reflection as would the object in question. A larger RCS indicates that an object is more easily detected. The conceptual definition of RCS includes the fact that not all of the radiated energy falls on the target. A target’s RCS (F) is most easily visualized as the product of three factors: F = Projected cross section x Reflectivity x Directivity Where, Reflectivity: The percent of intercepted power reradiated (scattered) by the target. Directivity: The ratio of the power scattered back in the radar's direction to the power that would have been backscattered had the scattering been uniform in all directions (i.e. isotropically). RCS depends upon Size, Material, Radar absorbent paint, Shape, directivity and orientation and surface of a target. For the case of an antenna the total RCS can be divided into two separate...
