I haven’t taken any criticism personally and always learnt from it. 5. What did Beverly have to gain from listening to the criticism? It was hurting Beverly’s career and the company, added cost and nearly lost the client for one project 6. What does EPM stand for? E-empathize P-pin point problems M-move forward 7. Read the following scenario and fill in E, P, M: a. Carlos, who has a desk close to yours, often borrows items from your desk while you are away. When he returns these items, they are often damaged – the stapler is broken, or the policy manual has pages missing. You’ve kept silent about it for several months, but now you are especially upset because the batteries are missing from the tape recorder he borrowed. All the past three incident in which I was criticized, were of factual, and learnt that we could have saved some time pondering over the issue, by just escalating the issue. 9. What are the four A’s of receiving criticism? Anticipate, Ask questions, Agree with someone, Analyse 10. Why is questioning better than arguing? Questioning helps bring about the critical information which might be missing, helps resolve issues. 11. What is most difficult about giving criticism? it will affect the other person’s ability to work properly 12. What is most difficult about receiving criticism? some people are sensitive and go about defending themselves, which will only lead to pathos around 13. How will you use what you learned in this video? Before giving criticism, think about it as to why, how it has happened, and while receiving criticism think about it as how to learn from it, how to improve the situation which will be for Better communications, better job performance, better service to customers, better relationships, for the organization.
