...The way the people react to pain is shaped by their total life experiences of beliefs, values, and customs, which they refer to as their own culture. Also, the nurses’ perceptions as well as the control of pain are influenced by the nurses’ cultures since it influences their stereotypes and interpersonal communication patterns (Al-Atiyyat, 2009). The nurses should be attentive and sensitive to the patients’ own cultural background especially when they work in diverse society. Cultural incompetency can result in inadequate or inappropriate care due to miscommunication and the possibility to make inaccurate assessments. Thus, cultural competence is linked to improving the quality of pain management as part of the patient care provided (Al-Atiyyat, 2009). Patients with cancer pain should be cared by nurses who are culturally competent and who refrain from stereotyping while providing holistic care to patients. Campbell, Edwards, and Fillingim (2005) showed that there are no racial or ethnic differences in sensation threshold but the expression of pain is culturally-driven. The care provider should not impose their beliefs on the patients and they should be aware to the cultural differences in reports and treatment of pain (Al-Atiyyat, 2009). Only a few studies have addressed cultural factors on pain among patients with cancer. In a cohort study, Rabow and Dibble (2005) explored ethnic and country of origin differences in pain among outpatients with terminal and end-stage...

...By the Edward brother declaring independence they would have gained more protection by siding with the Natives and more territory. Both party would have been able to have peace and would have been able to help and improve each other in different ways. Chapter 3: Stephan Austin Reacts to the Fredonian Rebellion 1. Some of the most damning words and phrases that Austin used to describe the Fredonian rebels was the fact the he considered them no longer Americans but rather desperate renegadoes, that they have no other objective but to ruin the Country. Austin also said that these men are worse that the Natives, instead they are infatuated criminals. 2. Austin attempted to rally up his people to end the revolt by saying to get arms in the cause of liberty. That the Fredonian rebels siding with the Indians pledged to carry on a war of murder and plunder to Texans. He tried to convince them to rise and hasten to the standard of our country, hasten to protect your family and property. 3. The motivations that I think caused...

...Aatika Shabazz Pre-Professional Seminar January 29, 2013 Why I want to be a Teacher “Class, let’s go around the room and share what everyone would like to be when they grow up,” suggested my fourth grade teacher, Ms. Berry. I sat legs crossed on the hard carpet floor with butterflies in my stomach. I observed the answers my classmates shouted out with confidence. Still pondering what answer I would have when my turn came. “Aatika… Aatika…Aatika… are you alright?” asked Ms. Berry with concern in her voice and eyebrows raised. “Uhh…I want to be…a teacher,” I said with fear to my classmates’ responses. Everyone looked in disbelief because they could never image me being a teacher. In fact, I was in shock that I made the declaration. Since that day, I changed my answer numerous of times from being the most requested lawyer in America, to the effective psychologist, down to the best fashion consultant across the globe, and the most popular marketer the world has ever seen. All of these options were evaluated thoroughly as I got closer to college. After my first year in college, majoring in Marketing, I realized this wasn’t exactly what I wanted to do. I desired a career that involved helping people strive to be the best they can be. Education is an important part of advancement, and being a teacher would be the perfect profession to help do that. One of the most important reasons I want to become a teacher is to help students excel with teaching them effective and enjoyable...

...1939/45 - World War II World War II began in September 1939 when Germany invaded Britain under Adolf Hitler's leadership. France responded by declaring war upon Germany yet did not take action immediately for several months. Germany launched their next attack on Denmark and Norway in 1940, followed by attacks on France, the Netherlands and Belgium. The Battle Of Britain During the summer of 1940. Germany Launched another attack towards Britain, this time from air. However The German air force were nothing compared to Britain's Royal Air force. This marked Germany's first military failure. Greece and North Africa Italy, an ally of Germany expanded the war even further by invading Greece and North Africa. However were failures, and Germany came to Italy’s assistance in 1941. The USSR Later in 1941, Germany began its most ambitious action which was to invade the Soviet Union. Although Russia's ignition resistance was weak, the country was far too big to capture. That combined with the nations determination combined with their harsh weather conditions, caused Germany to fall back. In 1943, Germany was forced to retreat steadily beyond Europe into Germany itself over the years 1944-1945. Pearl Harbour on December 1941 a surprise attack from Japan on the U.S. Navy Pearl Harbour, Hawaii marked the war in the Pacific. Since Japan and China had previously been at war with each other for several years and even seized some of Chinas territory, Japan made a massive campaign of expanding...

...1. Why did magnesium react with zinc nitrate and why can’t lead react with zinc nitrate? The reason why magnesium reacted with zinc nitrate is because magnesium is two elements higher than zinc on the activity series. When a metal is higher than another on the series, it means it is capable of replacing whichever metal is beneath it in a single displacement reaction. The distance between the two metals has a correlation with the slow execution of the reaction as the closer the elements are on the series the slower the reaction takes place. Since zinc is the metal in the compound zinc nitrate, it being two elements below magnesium insures that a reaction will occur at a slower pace. For this same reason lead cannot react with zinc nitrate because zinc is above it in the activity series. 2. What kinds of indication did sodium iodide have with silver nitrate to confirm that this is a double displacement reaction?...

...During the 20th century Europe was the eye of the hurricane of wars, and not just any typical war amongst one nation versus another nation, but several European states such as Germany, France, Great Britain, Italy, Spain, Belgium, Denmark, including the United States which is not a European country to mention a few. After the First World War, it was established that WWI would end all wars but to the contrary, WWI still left an amber behind and as the years went by that amber turned to a flame, that soon ended up bringing chaos. Before World War I, Germany and France had a bickering wars like the Franco Prussia did not settle down a menace between these two nations, Germany won that war and left France seeking victory, World War I happens, and this time France is in the winning side. Germany was humiliated, she was once seen as a powerful nation, and now she had to walk with her tail between her legs. Hitler sees an opportunity, where a country wants to no longer be seen as a loser but as a victorious country. Hitler spread ideologies than soon were being adopted throughout Germany, and soon the rest of Europe. ...FIN 86098 Research in Finance Term Paper Covenant violation: How does CDS market react? Abstract We investigate the difference of loan and firm characteristics between financial covenants violated firms and normal firms; how Credit Default Swap market reacts to the first time and second time violation information and what are the determinants of violation. We find that financial covenants violated firms are more likely to be less matured, growth companies. They also borrow less money per deal than normal companies and more likely to borrow money to repay old debt rather than corporate purposes. In addition, we examine around 100 first time financial covenant violations with available CDS data from 2001 to 2012, and find credit market reacts significantly to the unfavorable first time violation information in almost all the windows. We do not find any impact on CDS spreads for the second time violations. Further, our results indicate that firm operating performance, such as leverage, profit and ROA rather than stock market performance is good measure to predict the probability of financial covenant violation. I. Introduction Almost every private loan comes with some ex ante contingencies which can be break into three subgroups: pricing grids, borrowing bases and financial covenants. A grid is used to determine the applicable interest rate of a private loan as a function of one performance measurement, for example, the credit rating of a borrower or the borrower’s...

...CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION Background: Whenever we log in to our Facebook accounts, we see their slogan on their homepage which is “Facebook helps you connect and share with the people in your life.” But nowadays, far from what Mark Zuckerberg’s aim is in creating Facebook, it has turned more into a source of entertainment rather than it means for communication. As this social networking site continues to add and upgrade its features, the means of sharing happenings in someone’s life to the public have widened. Posting videos became available because sometimes pictures are not enough. Hashtags that were only seen in Twitter before have also become available in Facebook so that we can easily filter topics and would be able to keep up with “what’s in”. The additional features improved the quality of service Facebook provides and made it easier to keep up with the latest happenings not only within our circle of friends, but also to our whole community. These advancements have helped some Facebook users to bridge the gap between them and their loved ones . But somehow, others ended up abusing it. The video of the “amalayer” girl in 2012 became viral in Facebook. It had been shared from one’s profile to another and received various reactions from different people may it be positive or negative. People also found social issues entertaining by means of making memes. Instead of taking these seriously and participating in sensible debates, some just tend to shrug these off. This...

...Cell membranes are a selectively permeable phospholipid layer that act as a barrier between the internal and external environments of the cell (Singer and Nicolson 1972). Osmosis is the movement of solvent across a semipermeable membrane from low solute to high solute concentration; osmolarity is the concentration of an osmotic solution. Tonicity describes the relative concentrations of two solutions to determine movement of diffusion of solute across the membrane separating the solutions. The permeability of the rabbit red blood cell membrane is explored, factors varying the degrees of permeability to different solutes, and the effects on the cell from this movement of solutes and water across the membrane. The resultant effects when rabbit red blood cells are introduced to solutions of varying tonicity – isotonic, hypotonic, and hypertonic – are also observed. The permeability of the cell membrane to various organic solutes based on factors like molecular weights and lipid-water partition coefficients is also studied. The permeability of a cell membrane to a solute does not appear to show a high dependence on the molecular weight of said solute (Finkelstein 1976). The lipid-water partition coefficient, on the other hand, does affect the ease and speed at which molecules cross the cell membrane. It is a measure of the solubility difference of a particular solute between the two immiscible phases of lipid and water; a coefficient equal to less than 1 means a greater amount...

...Early in the nineteenth century, the U.S. was beginning to grow southward rapidly, the nation came into frequent contact with the various Native American tribes through the South-Eastern parts of the country. The main tribes; Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Creek, and Seminole had to be relocated west, opening twenty-five million acres of land to white settlers. The discover of the “New World” by European explorers caused endless problems for Native American Indians. First contact between the Europeans and Native Americans, resulted from the expedition of Hernando de Solo in 1540. De Solo took captives for slave labor, and left new diseases that the Native Americans encountered that began to dramatically decrease their populations. Even after the American Revolution, the natives began to face another set of problems, white settlers. Over the next two centuries, more and more white settlers arrive to this new land. This resulted in native cultures beginning to adopt their foreign ways leading to even more deterioration to their culture. Then white settlers began seeking for more land, claiming that the “Indian settlements were standing in the way of white people’s progress.” Which resulted in the Native Americans having to give up parts of their homeland. After the Louisiana Territory was purchased from the French in 1803, the white settlers began to claim that the U.S. had to do something about the Indian presence. In 1825, the U.S. government adopted a removal policy,...

...C.L. Barber argued that comedy is all about pleasure and merrymaking. How do you react to this idea in your study of Much Ado About Nothing? Much Ado About Nothing is heavily influenced by the inclusion of C.L. Barber’s viewpoint on comedy, that pleasure and merrymaking should be a focal point in festive comedy. Shakespeare utilizes witty mockery, satirical conversations and the Saturnalian reversal of roles to emphasize festivity and merrymaking as a main theme in his comedy as this ensures the audience can make fun and laugh at the situations displayed. But, as the audience we cannot forget that Shakespeare used this idea of pleasurable entertainment to disguise the underlying Machevellian plots of Don John and Borachio to disrupt the fairy tale type of tenor the characters could have led. Therefore, further into Much Ado About Nothing, discussions about whether Shakespeares play conforms to C.L. Barber’s argument or to what extent is C.L. Barber’s perspective disputed are risen. Initially, from reading the script of Much Ado About Nothing, the reader can respond to C.L. Barber’s argument with firm disagreement as many other genres are used to heighten the effect of comedy in the play, although C.L. Barber’s argument was specifically aimed at comedies, whilst Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing is classed as a dramatic comedy, where tragedy is also hung in the balance in the climactic parts of the play. The purpose of Shakespeare’s plays in general and especially Much Ado...
