...RH BILL: To SUPPORT or To ABORT? “Love makes life “This saying proves that our opposite attracts are the reason behind why you, me and them are here in the whole world. Humans are responsible to make new generations. That’s why as we get older every day, new lives our being born. As a negative reaction, population growth also grows thicker every day. That’s why RH BILL or Reproductive Health Bill was created. Having aired it in the media, most Filipinos talked about it and became RH BILL, their vocabulary. Why? Because it’s stated that, this BILL is the way for a better future. It deals with the controlling of population on a certain country. It also promotes two methods of family planning, Chemical and Mechanical method. Under Chemical Method are the use of pills, injectables and spermicides. While the Mechanical Method are the use of condoms, IUD or Intrauterine Device, Vasectomy and Tubal Ligation. All of these are concern for the prevention of life formation and giving spaces for parents to nurture their child. Having the idea about this act, makes you decide where to stand. But, are these reasons enough? What are the consequences? For us teenagers were not very familiar with this topic, because it’s not in our stage to think of these thoughts or to put it into our minds. But, let’s accept the fact that were now only miles away in entering this stage, so we must have an initial idea on how to live with it. Besides knowing these things make us a wise man on choosing...

...Reproductive Health Bill became one of the crucial, sensitive and serious issues in our country. In fact it made a divisive chapter in our history where many individuals had an intense debate that led to partition. The President Aquino Administration pellucidly showed its persistent support to the said bill while other religious groups, particularly the Catholic Church, strongly opposed it. The Catholic Church is against the passage of the RH law which promotes both natural and artificial family planning methods. The Church only supports natural family planning. Filipino people had different feelings, reactions and point of view about this controversial matter. The government espouses this law because its main aims are to protect the health and lives of mothers, to save babies, to respond to the majority who want smaller families, to promote equity for poor families, to prevent induced abortions, to support and deploy more public midwives, nurses and doctors, to guarantee funding for and equal access to health facilities, to give accurate and positive sexuality education to young people, to reduce cancer deaths, and to save money that can be used for even more social funding. These are only few among the several advantages that people could obtain if this law will be implemented. Overall, it seeks to provide improved public access to natural and artificial family planning options, better maternal care, and youth education. Government sees it as one of the effective solutions...

...com Published 5:26 PM, March 27, 2014 Updated 5:26 PM, March 27, 2014 [pic] MANILA, Philippines – A social media campaign is underway to raise awareness in support of the reproductive health (RH) law, whose implementation has been put on hold by the Supreme Court for a year a now. Republic Act 10354, which would provide information on and access to reproductive health services, is under status quo ante order “until further orders” by the Supreme Court (SC). The law – probably the most polarizing national issue today – was passed on December 18, 2012, after 13 years in Congress. Anti-RH advocates immediately questioned the constitutionality of the law before the SC. The high court is expected to decide on the case in April, with insiders predicting the law could be headed for defeat in the Supreme Court. House Speaker Feliciano Belmonte Jr has said that declaring the RH law as unconstitutional would be "a veto against the will of majority of our people." As decision time nears, frustrated reproductive health supporters are taking the fight to the social media world. The #Yes2RH campaign was initiated by Likhaan Center for Women's Health, in cooperation with several other pro-RH organization. It will run from March 28 until April 8. Likhaan calls on other RH advocates to support the campaign, and hopefully influence the upcoming SC decision. Using the hashtag #Yes2RH, they've started a campaign that asks citizens to upload selfies on their Facebook and Twitter...

...2013 highlights the positive changes, accomplishments of his administration made in the past 2 years and the plans for the rest of his term. President Aquino talks about the nightmares of the lost decades. Though, not mention the name of former President Arroyo he still alluded to remind people of what his administration had to reckon. He cited the anomalies in the Northrail Project. He said that an expensive project that became even more expensive after the renegotiation and the higher cost came with fewer public benefits. And the debts incurred from that project are now being called in. “Nothing is impossible to a united Filipino nation”. He noted. Some of the improvements and plans of Pnoy’s administrations are: Relief Goods and Rescue Operation are now ready before the calamity/storms arrives. The disasters preparedness has improved. PNoy receives a long applause after saying that the country is now a creditor nation because Filipinos always borrowed before and now in his administration we are the ones lending. Aquino recalled starting off the wave of reforms with a simple thing like stop of using sirens for officials’ cars, including his own, and leaving only the law-enforcement vehicles and medical ambulances as exceptions. The president tackled about the Sin tax and Reproductive Health or RH bill. “Challenges remain. The high...

The joint session of the Senate of the Philippines and the House of Representatives were called to order at exactly 4:00 in the afternoon. ...to piece together the events of the crime. The texture, size, shape, and distribution of the blood can be used to determine when the crime occurred, what weapon was used, how the victim was standing, how many times the victim was hit, and more. Even if the perpetrator attempted to cover up the crime by cleaning the blood, evidence of blood still remains. Forensic investigators have different tests that can see where blood has been, whether it is blood, saliva, or semen, and also can test whether the blood is even human or not. Going even further, more tests can be done to compare the blood of different individuals to determine whether or not they were the perpetrator. Within the blood, there is a liquid portion called plasma making up about 55% of the total volume of blood. The plasma contains mostly water with some nutrients, minerals, and oxygen. In the plasma, there are red and white blood cells. Red blood cells contain hemoglobin which is a complex molecule that carries oxygen, removes carbon dioxide, and gives blood its red color. White blood cells; however, are crucial for the body’s immune system as they fight off infections by attacking harmful bacteria and viruses. Analysis of bloodstain evidence is very important in an investigation of a crime, thus many...

...person or a group of persons reporting about that event will be high. Even the simple sharing of information around your friends is broadcasting news. There are many persons, groups, institutions, and media groups writing and reporting news; you can see them in television, newspapers, or even live from the event. In our society of today, you will observe many persons acquiring news on Television channels, and less people reading newspapers having almost 20 pages back to back. Both may have the same content, but many still choose television over newspapers. Filipinos resort to Television News over Newspapers because of Simple Literacy Status, Presentation, and the society we have now. Filipinos resort to TV news because a large percentage of Filipinos are only categorized as simple literate. Simple literate is defined as persons only understanding simple statements, and a survey from the National Statistics Coordination board gathered data stating that 93.4% of Filipinos are simple literate as of 2006 (NSCB). The language in written reports, papers, or novels differs from the language used when delivering it orally. For example, this is the 1st part of an article taken from the Guidon Newspaper: When putting it to oral presentation, the report can shorten the selection. It can be reported as: "The University President appealed to the Ateneo community to continue in its discernment of the issues surrounding the RH Bill. As Fr.Jett pointed out, It’s a service;...

...FOREWORD In a span of only five years, the population of the Philippines grew by 7.7 million – from 68.8 million in 1995 to 76.5 million in 2000. During this period, the population growth rate (PGR) was 2.36 percent per year, which means the population doubling time will be within 29 years if the rate does not decline (NSO, 2001). Side by side with rapid population growth is poverty, which still grips about a third of the country's 15.3 million households (NSO, 2001a). This Country Report is timely in that it revisits the link between population/development and poverty, environment, and resources. The Report has two purposes. First, it intends to review the Philippine population/development situation, including issues of reproductive health and gender equity, from the perspective of goals affirmed in the Bali Declaration, the ICPD Program of Action and other related documents. The report's second purpose is to highlight priority population issues in the context of alleviating poverty and improving the quality of life of Filipinos. To reduce poverty significantly within the coming decade, the Philippines must face the challenge of building the capacities of its vast human capital. Only in this way can Filipino families, especially the poor, meaningfully, responsibly, and productively participate in the development process. CONTENTS |FOREWORD ...

...not think US factors alone can bring the risk-off driven flattening further. The key will be whether investors revise down their outlook for economies other than the US based on their view for unexpectedly weak US growth and hawkish Fed, in which case they should reduce risk positions in these markets. This week, risk-off momentum strengthened more than expected. 10yr UST rates have declined to levels signalling that a rate hike, as communicated by the Fed, would be premature, and are also approaching to levels that even reject QE3 tapering. (We note that 10yr rates traded around 2.50% when former Fed Chair Bernanke began talking about a QE exit.) These levels were tested in October 2013, but data do not look as poor as to suggest momentum has slowed to levels equivalent to that period. Even US shares, despite the current adjustment, are trading about 10% higher than in October 2013. We surmise that the issues that the US is currently facing are not cyclical, but rather structural (see below). For this reason, we believe any surprises in terms of a rates market rally could come from emerging economies, which are dependent on US growth, or in Japan and Europe, whose monetary policy rest on a strong USD. Indeed, China‟s export data released this week surprised on the downside, and EUR approached highs for the year. In Japan, while JPY has not strengthened...

...challenge its most treasured beliefs. ~ Donna Evans As humans, we understand a little about our complex bodies even with the greatest medical science. It is what it is. Then why lie? Secrecy and stigma are worse than the condition itself. Without truth and transparency, it is difficult to pass laws, provide equal rights, offer support and help for all. We need to have an environment which encourages truth, tolerance, and respect for all. Are there only two genders or is there a third gender?Regardless of which side of the issue you are on, we can all agree thattruth is always the right option and secrecy and lying have no place for a long-term solution in a civilized society. There are several issues withsecrecy and lying. First it is wrong. Second it does not take into account the feelings and trauma of the person being lied to. Third it could lead to criminal acts such as if lying is a crime under oath. What are the bioethics for disclosure to spouses? It is NOT about gender identity or it is NOT about the sexual identity, it is about the HUMAN identity which is to say the truth. As a human being, everyone deserves a feeling of “belonging”, understanding and acceptance. Without recognition of the truth, how will an intersex person marry legally or how can an intersex couple (who are infertile) adopt a child legally or have a child through in vitro fertilization (IVF) legally? What about the equal laws and rights of the young, male, spouse caregiver of the intersex patient...
