Last February 6, a 6.4 magnitude earthquake hit Taiwan. With 116 deaths and widespread damage, it is the deadliest earthquake the country has ever experienced for 1095 years.

Two days after, another 6.4 magnitude earthquake shook the grounds of Papua New Guinea, with a minimal damage and zero casualties. And just two days ago, New Zealand experienced a tremor of almost the same scale, categorized as severe. While damages are at a minimum based on the latest evaluation, it is clear that a movement within the earth’s crust is taking place, which could have maximal aftereffects to other areas.

Close to the three earthquake-affected countries, the Philippines is not dismissing the possibility of being the next target. In fact, as early as May last year, the Philippine Institute of …show more content…
Anyway, there’s also a big chance that the Next Big One might happen under the new leadership.

If this is the case, then this government has further exposed its reactive nature in the face of adversity, cementing the suspicions conceived after Typhoon Yolanda ravaged the country more than two years ago.

With the behavior its officials are exhibiting based on the preparedness plan, things we are trying to prevent from happening will likely surface, putting all our initial efforts in vain. The relief and recovery system that we foresee will be replaced by what this government is so fond of doing post-disturbances - a ceaseless blame game.

And after these finger-pointing dramas that will surely hit the headlines, the heart of the issues will be forgotten, buried alongside with the bodies of the victims of the government neglect, and with the justice they so deserved. And the culprits who perpetrated and inflicted the further misery will remain untouchable and scot-free.
