11ABM - CEO English For Academic Purposes "Heneral Luna" Reaction Paper
I first watched the film "Heneral Luna" last summer vacation, my dad insists that we should watch this historical biopic movie beside the fact that we are interested about history, this movie became a trending topic on the internet and it was the philippine entry on "88th academy awards" for "Best Foreign Film". After watching the movie, I can say that this may be the best historical local film that I have ever watched.
The movie was so great to the fact that I almost cry while watching how cruel happened, noted that I'm with my family watching. The movie got me and I can't clearly determine what my emotion is, there are parts of the film that I laugh , stunned , cry , and mad. The actors of the film really suits the character that was given to them, the character and acting itself was portrayed very well. I am impressed by the cinematography of the film , the way they show the fight scenes or war scenes. The flashback scene is as good as it is, it was cool to watch but it confused me on the first time I saw it, because there we're no effects that shows the audience that the scene was a flashback. The music of the movie was good and the music was made by the director itself. What captures me and what I like the most about the movie was the script itself. There were cussing lines on the film but they were creative and poetic, beside the fact that Antonio Luna was also a poet. His lines and dialogue made the viewers remember the movie itself. The line that I will never forget is "negosyo o kalayaan, bayan o sarili" that shows that the filipino's aim are always for their families not for the whole country. What I don't like about the movie was the symbolism on the ending, where the philippine flag is dirty and ragged. As I know, it is not legal according to 1987 filipino constitution. I was given another chance to again the film last thursday and friday and my reaction is just the same, the ending part will always make me cringe. What I don't like about the movie was the symbolism on the ending, where the philippine flag is dirty and ragged. As I know, it is not legal according to 1987 filipino constitution.
This film showed me and introduce Heneral Antonio Luna that the books from school back in elementary doesn't show me. The movie showed me, and opened my eyes that we filipinos are not united as it should be, we are one nation but we don't act as one. We should be supporting and helping, but we tend to pull each other down. At the end of the movie I became more mad about us filipinos than what the american does to the country. This is our fault, we let ourselves to be maniplated by the foreigners , by these americans. The real enemy is not the foreign colonizer, but our self-greed. I will give the film in total of 8.9 over 10.

...HENERAL LUNA REFLECTION PAPER  Summary of the movie The story took place during the Philippine-American War, focusing on the leadership of Heneral Luna to the Philippine Revolutionary Army. It revolved not only about the war against the Americans, but mainly on the conflict among Filipinos. The issue was about the presence of Americans and other Filipinos supporting the Americans’ ways such as Buencamino and Paterno. The idea of fellow Filipinos supporting Americans enraged Heneral Luna for he was very patriotic and strongly fought for the freedom of the Philippines. Though Luna was considered to be a great leader of the army, some were against his leadership for others envy or were threatened by his presence. He had conflicts with other fellow generals such Mascardo which lead to more hatred against Luna. Luna was assassinated at Aguinaldo’s headquarters. He was framed that the President called him, though upon his arrival he already left and Buencamino was the one in the office. During their argument, shots were fired outside so Luna went out to inspect.
