Ask Youself...
Who is the Audience?
Is the text written for a general audience or a specific audience?
By knowing who the audience is, we can determine what the author is trying to accomplish
Where was it published?
Is the text written to persuade?
What does the written want us to do or think afte reading their text?
What do we know about the authors background or credibility?
What promoted the author to write this text?
Some ways that we we identify what promoted the author would be an event, circumstance, or social practice.

Guidelines for the Reading Process
1. Remember what we learned about the text from what questions we had about the text.
2. Preview the text and ask youself questions about what you're reading that will help you dig deeper into the text.
As you read:
1. Pay close attention to all aspects of the text and take notes
2. Identify the category
3. Identify how the ideas of the author is organized (Any pattern of development)
4.Identify Stylistic Features
After you read:
Identify the rhetorical context of the text by answering the following questions
1. Who is the author writing for?
2. What do we know about the authors background or credibility?
3. What promoted the author to write this text?

To get a deeper understanding of our reading:
Analyze the text by asking youself a few simple questions
1. Does the writer vary the type of sentences? ( length, statements, questions)
2. Are the sentences simple or more complex?
3. Does the writer write difficult or

The author of this article feels that parents should not be or feel responsible for paying their child’s college tuition at all. Some of the reasons that the author gives for feeling this way, according to her which is the most important is that her parents did it to her. The material available online is diverse, presenting different points of views on a topic quite unlike most books.
