Women’s role in today’s society
Women always have been known to be the caretaker of the family. They were to stay home and care for the children and their husbands were out earning the income. In today’s society, women are out in the job market earning a steady income along with their husbands. They may even hold such titles as Chief Executive Officers or run in politics. No matter what they do they are still expected to come home and care for their family. Many will argue that it may be easier said than done concerning staying home and taking care of the family especially in this economy when earning two incomes is almost a must in order to provide for the family.
Women have gone through some rough times for the women of today to have the right to vote, attend school, and work. “.. the more rights we as women get, it seems the more we want. We want people to not look at us and make a decision. We want people to give us opportunities despite our sex” (Pendley, 2011). This is merely an opinion from another woman who is speaking her own mind, but it is attitudes like these that make it harder for women to be taken seriously. It is true that women want to have the same opportunities as men and do not want to be judged by their sex but that does not mean that they want anything more. There may be limitations to what women can do physically, emotionally, and mentally as far as work is concerned, but it is also the same for men. “..I, as a female, acknowledge the fact that our sex cannot behave the way a male does. And I don’t want to act like a man” (Pendley, 2011). Fighting for the rights of all women does not mean that they want to act like men. Women simply want to be treated equally and not be seen as someone who is not capable of doing anything besides staying

Debate

...Debate The technique of persuasive argument is a skill that you must acquire in order to participate in a successful debate. The art of being eloquent, choosing your words wisely, and being able to think on your feet, encompasses many of the components that any debater should be able to handle. In our first debate last week, we got off to a bit of an awkward, slow start. A few of us were confused on the format, when to speak, and what to say next. After several people went up and read their paper, it was time for rebuttals. Certain people had no problem getting up in front of the class, and vehemently stating their position on the topic at hand. Once we were able to rebuttal with more ease, the debate went on a little more smoothly. In the middle of the debate, people didn’t want to end the argument as early as we did. We began to think more critically, coming up with better counterarguments and ideas. Considering this was our first debate, I would have to give it a six out of ten. Both teams were strong in some areas, and weak in others. Over time we will become stronger debaters and be able to develop and hone our skills. As we use the middle school format more often, we will become use to it and be prepared with a closing speech from both sides and a stronger opening argument. As captain for the first time and for the rest fo the class, we will be able to strategically plan who will speak next in the middle of the debate. We can send up our stronger members for some tougher...

...Sarah Greck A. Anderson 3 March 2016 English 226 Rebuttal Argument More and more people are turning to a vegan diet for the massive health benefits: high energy, younger looking skin, high energy levels, and eternal youth are just some of the claims from satisfied plant-based eaters. Well, eternal youth might be a bit far-fetched, but there are certainly tons of scientifically proven benefits to a vegan lifestyle when compared to the average western diet. Thoughtful and thoroughly planned plant-based diets are rich in calcium, iron, protein, and other essential vitamins and minerals. The sources of all these nutrients are typically high in fiber, low in saturated fat, and packed with antioxidants, helping prevent some of our world’s biggest health problems like diabetes, obesity, heart disease, and cancer. Maintaining a diet to lower cholesterol based on plant foods – vegetables, fruits, grains, and beans – is the best way to lower saturated fat intake and avoid cholesterol completely. A vegan diet is free of all animal products and holds the lowest risk of heart disease. Since our bodies produce enough of the cholesterol we need, it’s unnecessary to add any in our diet. Cholesterol is found in all animal products including fish, chicken, red meat, eggs, milk and other dairy products. Some dieticians argue that choosing lean cuts of meat is enough; however, the cholesterol is mainly in the lean portions of meat. Many consumers are shocked to learn that chicken contains...

...Developing Good Business Sense Lizadora Jones Bus 210 06/03/14 The operations and materials management process are a set of specific rules, a company follows in order to properly maintain the flow of inbound material, production and outbound products. The operation part of any business company is the attempt to create value to material that comes into a business. In addition to creating value to material, it is also a set of procedures to turn the material into finished goods or services. Within the operational procedure of any business, the employees must work together in a cohesive manner or the process will fail. In a fast-food restaurant environment, the person working the counter taking costumer orders must maintain the flow of orders being sent back to the prep-cooks. The pre-cooks must insure that the food is prepared the customer specs as quickly as possible. Once the food has been prepared, it must be packaged and delivered to the costumer. In order to insure the customer is satisfied with the product enough to want to want to return, all these employee must function together as a team or else the producers are worthless. ...cause a weakening in another, eventually leading oneself into imperfection. 3. One of his grounds are when he makes a “little Book” to record any faults made to later examine them so that he can improve towards perfection. Another ground he makes is the list of thirteen virtues that he has picked up from other writers and made into his own so that he can follow and perfect them daily. 4. An objection to his book records that he keeps is that he cannot be entirely perfect because of the daily obstacles that he does have control over which can cause him to be at fault regardless of how careful he is. 5. The rebuttal is presented after he explains how focus on one virtue can lack attention to another by counterstating that he can extend his concentration for all the virtues, which can predominantly keep him free of any faults. ...evidence plays a critical role in any argument essay. It’s the evidence, of course, that helps to convince your reader that what you’re saying is true. "Read my lips" just doesn’t cut it. In this lesson, you’ll have the opportunity to learn to examine your use of evidence so that you present your "case" in the best light. In the end, your reader will evaluate your claim based not only on the quality of the evidence you present, but also on your interpretation of it. You will examine your evidence to determine its relevance, validity, and level of detail. Then, rebuttal their argument with its own reason to its side with evidence as backup. A traditional essay would explain why the opposing argument is wrong. On the other hand, a Rogerian argument essay would establish common ground to find a solution to problem that would benefit or give a fair chance to both sides of the argument. Both sides also have the benefit to provide evidence. Instead of a traditonal argument where the writer’s argument only given the chance to provide evidence and the only has to address the opposing side with a single sentence. ...

Slutwalks and the Future of Feminism

...Winnie Wong Writing 140
Maggie Flynn
4th October 2012
Assignment #2 Most Effective Essay: “SlutWalks and the Future of Feminism.” by Jessica Valenti Slut. This attention-grabbing noun is used throughout the world in the continuing feminist protest that has started since May 2011: Slutwalks. It all began when Michael Sanguinetti, a Toronto police constable, made a statement on how women should not “dress like sluts” in order to be safe from being sexually assaulted at a safety forum in Osgoode Hall Law School on January 24th 2011. His words infuriated many, and Sonya Barnett and Heather Jarvis, Co-founders of Slutwalk Toronto, decided to take action to disaffirm the victim-blaming claim. Originally expected to be a small-scale protest, Slutwalk drew attention and became a worldwide phenomenon, which also triggered both positive and negative responses; Jessica Valenti, Gail Dines, Wendy J Murphy and Keli Goff all published articles to express their opinions. Valenti supported Slutwalk in her essay, “Slutwalks and the Future of Feminism,” whereas Dines and Murphy’s “SlutWalk is not sexual liberation” and Goff ‘s “Dear feminists, Will You Also Be Marching In N***erwalk? Because I Won’t.” opposed it. These writers are all famous feminists; Dines is a seasoned professor and author, while Valenti and Goff are new feminist bloggers who are described as “the pioneer in bringing feminist action online” and “a breath of fresh air,” respectively. Although all of these writers...

Steps for Writing Synthesis Essays

...what controversial (has more than one side / answer / opinion / etc) issues exist in your discipline / major and which are most interesting to you and/or relevant in your field today. To help you with that, you may want to move through the brainstorm / freewrite below to see if you can develop some of those ideas. You should use this to help you come up with ideas that you could discuss and develop on the DB. You may even want to post portions of what you came up with here on the DB. Thoughtful interaction could earn you some BONUS in the CE column and allow you to SPIN some ideas and nail down some solid topics. With that in mind, each student’s essay is to be unique with regards to its TOPIC / ISSUE / STANCE / ETC; therefore, the Board is meant to be a place to help shape ideas, not see one and “steal” it for your own essay. Topics will be reserved for those individuals who first bring them up and if similarities exist it will be the responsibility of the students to determine what different aspects of the issue will be explored by each (first poster gets first choice). I will NOT allow the “casual” student (one who is hanging around on the roster but not really submitting assignments and/or participating on the previous Boards) tell me at the last minute that “X” is his/her project when a conscientious student already articulated this on the Board. What you want to do is complicate the issue. Look at the issue from multiple perspectives and see what collaborations and...

Annie Proulx Essay

...Academic essay on Annie Proulx's "Job Story" Choices are something we all make. Not necessarily important choices, but there will always be a time to make them. It's not always good choices, but they have to be made. There will always be consequences, whether it's bad or good. Throughout the story, Leeland Lee has to make a lot of choices. Where to live, where to work and when to work. All the different choices he made, put him in the position he is now. Leeland Lee is an awkward-looking young boy. His face is heavily boned, which he has gotten from his mom, his neck is quite thick and he has red-gold hair. His eyes are as pouchy as a middle-aged alcoholic. His nose is broad and lays close to his face. Lori Bovee is Leeland Lee's wife. She has an undistinguished oval face, and hair of medium length. Leeland Lee is the protagonist of the story, because he is the main character. I would say Leeland is a flat and static character as he is an endless optimist. He doesn't give up when it comes to finding a new job, and despite his wife dying he still gets a job at Unique Eats. The reason he is a static character is because he doesn't change at all. After getting several different jobs he doesn't change anything, after his mom and wife dies he doesn't change one single thing except the fact he isn't listening to the radio anymore, but since that have been an important factor of the story all along, it can also show a lot about how he has changed. The story starts November...
