Students who are talented enough also play at sport at their college. With the overwhelming workload that student athletes face in college, along with their commitment to sports can cause an immense amount of stress in their life. Stress is an emotional or mental strain put on the body and mind from demanding circumstances. As opposed to the traditional college student, student athletes have more pressure on them. About 400,000 student athletes participate in athletic games each year, and thousands receive scholarships to do so (Stern). Setting aside the stress that every student already faces when transitioning from high school to college, being a collegiate athlete on top of that just makes it more difficult. Stress is so powerful, it can become the sole thing that can cause an athlete to quit their sport, causing them to lose their scholarship or even drop out of school. Several occasions an athlete’s performance is negatively affected by the stress that is put on them. Being relied on heavily by their school, parents’ expectations to succeed in school, and by coaches and teammates to perform well in their sport, can be too much on a student athlete. The genesis of this practice lies in the “20-70-10 principle” which states that the top 20% of workforce is productive, 70% work adequately and the remaining bottom 10% do not deliver and should be fired. During the annual appraisal, the head of every business team within the organization is asked to classify his/her team-members into top, medium and bottom performers. Those in the bottom bucket are asked to resign. This reportedly creates tremendous dissonance and unhappiness across the organization. There seems to be no evidence of the expected theoretical result of a continuously improving highperforming business unit. Even short-run competence is not reported to increase perceptibly. Colgate, a company also tied up with ITC E-Choupal and Rotary to spread the message of dental care and oral hygiene to villages across India. The campaign successfully targeted over 156 villages in Uttar Pradesh in association with Project Disha and 36 villages in Maharashtra. In addition, dental camps were also conducted in the Dussera Mela at Kota. Food production includes industries that take raw food products and convert them into marketable food items. Synthetic fertilizers are commonly used for growing all crops, with application rates depending on the soil fertility, usually as measured by a soil test and according to the particular crop. Studies have shown that application of nitrogen fertilizer on off-season cover crops can increase the biomass (and subsequent green manure value) of these crops, while having a beneficial effect on soil nitrogen levels for the main crop planted during the summer season. Nutrients in soil can be thrown out of balance with high concentrations of fertilizers. The interconnectedness and complexity of this soil ‘food web’ means any appraisal of soil function must necessarily take into account interactions with the living communities that exist within the soil.
