The Red Scare persecution of the communists of the United States and Soviet Union amounts to a modern day witch hunt. A witch hunt typically involves a procedure for determining the guilt of the person or group against the accusations that have been made. Some characteristics of a witch hunt include the use of fake evidence, climate fear, and social forces. Likewise, this pattern of factors has appeared in the persecution of the United States. In comparison to a modern witch hunt, the red scare caused a lot of fear which led to violence with the 1919 anarchist bombings, a series of bombs targeting law enforcement and government officials.
