American Red Cross
The American Red Cross, otherwise known as ARS, was founded by visionary leader Clara Barton in 1881. She was inspired by the work of the international Red Cross while she was in Europe during the Franco- Prussian War of 1870-1871. She was so inspired that she brought the model back to the United Stated and led the organization through its first domestic and international relief missions, including assisting the U.S. military during the Spanish-American War in 1898. The Red Cross was chartered by the United States Congress to "carry on a system of national and international relief in time of peace and apply the same in mitigating the sufferings caused by pestilence, famine, fire, floods, and other great national calamities, and to devise and carry on measures for preventing the same." The Charter is unique to the Red Cross because it assigns duties and obligations to the nation, to disaster survivors, and to the people who generously support their work through donations. Red Cross disaster relief focuses on meeting people's immediate emergency needs caused by disaster. When disaster threatens or strikes, the Red Cross provides shelter, food, and health and emotional health service to address basic human needs and assist individuals and families in resuming their normal daily activities independently. The Red Cross also feeds emergency workers like fire fighters and police, handles inquiries from concerned family members outside the disaster area, provides blood and blood products to disaster victims, and helps them access other available resources. Each year, the American Red Cross immediately responds to about 70,000 natural and man-made disasters in the U.S., ranging from fires to hurricanes, floods, earthquakes, tornadoes, hazardous materials spills, transportation accidents and explosions. People count on the Red Cross to help them in their darkest hour. In turn, the support of donors makes it possible for the Red Cross to fulfill its humanitarian mission. They are deeply grateful for the generosity of individuals, corporations and foundations who invest in the Red Cross.

Red Cross Knights: The Last Battle Against The Dragon

...Furthermore, the dragon fights the Redcross knight in Eden, and by the end of Book I the Redcross knight has defeated the dragon and symbollically defeated not only te dragon but the evil and sin he embodied. The battle against the dragon brings the allegory of the first book to it's climax and embodies all the political and religious meaning that Spenser has put into the story. Redcrosse's victory over the dragon, or sin if you will, represents two main things; the victory over the Catholic chruch, Jesus Christ resurction, In Canto xi, the red cross knight's is in many ways very similar to Jesus himself, he loses, however, emerges victorious on the third day. Redcross knights' battle is one that is done to illustrate a Christian need for the help of God in his or her battle against sin. For example, during his battle he falls into the Well of Life meant to represent Baptism. . The Tree of Life represent the Eucharist, a symbol of Jesus Christs' body and blood. All this is not a coincedence, is one supposed to believe the Knight of Holiness was just lucky enough to find himself in those...

Lady of Shalott

...Abby Dillard EN 1103 Mr. Tyler Trimm April 15, 2010 Predestination in The Lady of Shalott The ballad, “The Lady of Shalott”, written by Alfred Tennyson in 1833, is an analysis of the Victorian woman's predestined role in society and her free will desire to abandon this identity and break free into the male dominated world. In the Victorian Age, society had very little tolerance for those who did not conform to the predetermined roles. This is shown through the main character in “The Lady of Shalott”. The Lady represents those who did not reciprocate the idealized role of women during that time period. The Victorian age was one of much turmoil with women actively campaigning for more rights in a male dominant society. During this time men were considered to be intelligent, strong, powerful characters, while women were emotional, and only capable of housework and raising children. It is the Lady's rejection of these Victorian ideals of femininity that ultimately lead to her destruction. After seeing the city's people interacting and the charming Knight Lancelot, she rejects her life of solitude and seeks a new lifestyle, but unfortunately, the restricted society she escapes to has no place for the creative female and ultimately leads to her demise. The Lady is doomed to remain a stranger to society. She is completely isolated on her own island in a tower near the Victorian town of Camelot. The Lady’s confinement reflects the Victorian attitude towards women. The...

The tornado caused extensive destruction in downtown Cullman, a city of about 20,000 people; the tornado has been rated an EF4.[36] The final damage count was 867 residences and 94 businesses in Cullman.[37] At 4:00 p.m. CDT a tornado struck Lawrence County, Alabama, causing severe damage and killing a couple dozen people. At around 5:10 p.m. CDT (2210 UTC), a very large and exceptionally destructive tornado struck Tuscaloosa, Alabama.[38] About 40 minutes later, the same tornado struck the northern suburbs of Birmingham. A tornado emergency was issued for both cities, and many other tornado emergencies were issued that day. Many local TV stations, including WBRC and WBMA-LD/WCFT/WJSU, as well as CBS affiliate WIAT (channel 42), captured footage of this long-track tornado in both Tuscaloosa and Birmingham. A debris ball was observed by the Birmingham NEXRAD,[39] indicating that the tornado was causing extreme damage. Photos from the damage path showed total devastation. The path of this tornado struck the same small communities as the F4 storm on April 1956 Birmingham tornado, and the F5 storms on April 1977 Birmingham tornado and April 1998 Birmingham tornado. Feasibility Study

...FEEL CLEAN ALL DAY, EVERYDAY FEASIBILITY DECISION: FEASIBLE HANDY PENS, LLC. Business Feasibility Study EXECUTIVE SUMMARY In the convenience driven world we live in today it is no question that people are looking for more and more ways to make their lives easier. With that being said I would like to ask you a question. On an average day how many of you find yourselves using a pen? Our thoughts exactly, so one day we sat down and thought how great it would be to combine this compact device, which people already use throughout their daily activities, with something most people wish they could use on a daily basis. Well after some brain storming that’s exactly what we did. Our new product “Handy Pens” combines the convenience and familiarity of a pen with hygienic items we found to usually be more troublesome to carry in your pockets or handbags. For starters our pens include an attachment full of either a breath freshening spray to keep your mouth smelling minty fresh in the blink of an eye or a pen with an attachment filled with hand sanitizer keeping your hands germ free with the push of a finger. Barriers to entry in the stationary industry are low and we feel consumers would be excited to test out the innovative concept behind Handy Pens. We understand our weaknesses and plan to turn them into strengths, we acknowledge the threats ahead and are excited to change those into opportunities. The potential rewards in this industry outweigh the...
