Groups of people composed of all types of majors are being implemented into groups to practice and develop their skills to help people in developing countries with accommodations they might not have the means to produce themselves. Engineers Without Boarders is one of the big organizations that is participating in the global impact form of engineering teams. The teams that they produce are very diverse; including business, biology, engineers and political science majors alike to accomplish the tasks they have been presented. These groups are given multiple tests to determine what their strengths are and weaknesses to more properly form them into the individual’s teams they will cooperate with. The teams are then on a 5 month voyage in which they are responsible for thinking outside the box to design, prototype, and build their idea to satisfy a problem definition. One of these teams are the ones responsible for creating the Tripod Pump Frame which holds an irrigation pump but for much cheaper than the previous model. This product, according to the school, became the biggest selling pump in Myanmar. Theses tripods can be used to help solve a global problem of access to clean drinking water particularly in underdeveloped areas where water is scarce and you have to sometimes walk several miles to a water source. If the students wish to further their studies and development with the teams they are able to continue into the summer. In some cases many schools offer grants to further develop their skills in this optimal atmosphere.

...Lab #3 Inverter Tutorial: Layout, DRC, Extraction, LVS and Back Annotating Parastics Yong Li Partner: Hao Zhang Group #2 10/10/2012 EEN532 GF Objective In this lab, we were asked do the layout of Inverter using the design rules for the AMI C5N (λ=0.3μ) fabrication process. Specifically, we need to do some hand-on experience on how to complete the physical design (layout), design rule check (DRC), parameter extraction, layout vs. schematic (LVS) and Back Annotating Parastics from Layout to Schematic using the Cadence tools. Software LSW and Virtuoso Layout Editor We need to create a layout cellview, check it and simulate it in the software Procedure and Data First of all, we need to create the layout Cellview in LSW and Virtuoso Layout Editing Window. According to the instruction, we set up the display, and then we could draw everything in the layout. We also need to pay attention to the positions and the size. We drew the VDD, VGND, NMOS, PMOS, N-Well as well as all the contacts. We had to choose the correct color and the name of every component in the LSW. After that, we would connect transistors Nodes to Match schematic and Form the Inverter. And then we added the pins, which include vdd, vgnd, vin, and vout pins. The layout was like the following: The next step was to design rule check, which to test if our layout drawing obeys the design rule. When the CIW shows “Total errors found: 0”, our design rule check is successful. Furthermore, we were...

Gender Wage Sex Gap, and Segregation in the Work Place

...Wage Gap, and Sex Segregation Gender Exercise #1 During my investigation I noticed that the occupations that I am interested in pursuing cater mostly to males. The professions that interest me are Engineering, Chemistry, and Anesthesiology. I came across an article that discussed the pay differences between male's, and female's in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) profession's. According to a data study provided by the American Chemical Society (ACS) male chemists earned thirty percent more than female chemists. The findings of their research showed that eighty-three percent of the wage gap is due to differences in work ethic, and productivity, while the remaining seventeen percent is because of discrimination, and other unmeasured allegations. The information that I obtained from the National Society of Professional Engineers, in 2004 there were approximately 192,900 female engineers (62,000 were software engineers) throughout the United States, compared to the overwhelming number of men in this profession, at over 1,515,000. Women are more likely to get hired in the environmental, and chemical engineering fields than men are. However, women are less likely to get hired in the mechanical engineering, and electrical engineering professions than men. In 2006 females made up approximately one quarter of all engineers under the age of 25 in the United Stated. After researching the field of Anesthesiology I found that men are...

Hrm Case Study

...[pic] HRM Case Study Assignment – 2012 Phalicia Pang Matthew is a bright, popular, and well-informed mechanical engineer who graduated with an engineering degree from University of Glasgow, U.K in July 2011. After her graduation, she went out on many job interviews, most of which she thought were conducted courteously and reasonably useful in giving both her and the prospective employer a good impression of where each of them stood on matters of importance to both of them. It was, therefore, with great anticipation that she looked forward to an interview with the one firm in which she most wanted to work, WWF Environmental. She had always had a strong interest in cleaning up the environment and firmly believed that the best use of her training and skills lay in working for a firm like WWF, where she thought she could have a successful career while making the world a better place. The interview, however, was a disaster. Phalicia walked into a room in which five men – the president of the company, two vice-presidents, the marketing director, and another engineer – began throwing questions at her that she felt were aimed primarily at tripping her up rather than finding out what she could offer through her engineering skills. The questions ranged from unnecessarily discourteous (“Why would you take a job as a waitress in college if you’re such an intelligent person?”) to irrelevant and sexist (“Are you planning on settling down and starting a family anytime soon...

...Introduction Architecture design is used to define how options can be used to improve the hardware and software specifications. This paper will describe the application architecture and process design. A detailed observation is necessary to determine what kind of hardware can accommodate the software and it is a critical part of the system development life cycle. A high-level explanation of the security controls suggestions will be included. Application Architecture and Process Design The first step is to identify the major software components of the system being developed. Software systems are divided into four major functions. Data storage in an Information System stores the data or file. Data Access Logic is managing needed to retrieve the data. Application Logic is the processes or activities that are executed. The final function is the Presentation Logic function which is the presentation of the information and the user interface. Knowledge of the functions is vital in the design process and the data flow diagrams (DFD). Architecture design begins with the non-practical necessity. Riordan Manufacturing, Inc. is a large corporation that consists of several locations and the use of a Client-Server Architecture would be best due to scalability, which refers to flexible capacity of the infrastructure. Large-scale software is projected to be used by thousands of people concurrently. The cost of the infrastructure in a Client-Server is typically lower due to...

Article Review

...Article Review JR Powell CMGT/445 March 24, 2013 Dr. Steve Powelson Summary The article I chose to read about was IaaS Cloud Architecture: From Virtualized Datacenters to Federated Cloud Infrastructures by Rafael Moreno-Vozmediano, Rubén S. Montero, and Ignacio M. Llorente. The purpose of the article was to highlight the evolution of cloud infrastructures, particularly infrastructure as a service. The article discusses the advantages of using a federated cloud infrastructure to allow more flexibility and gain more control over business virtualized server environments. Virtualized data centers were limited in customer controls and monitoring of business systems in these virtualized environments, and limited those virtualized environments to specific geographically located data centers for hosting. Federated cloud infrastructures would allow businesses to span their virtualized server across many datacenters regardless of location and allow more control over VM resources and system monitoring. Furthermore, VM’s could be migrated to other hosted data centers with little or no risk of data loss during complex migration processes. Critique Although the article does a good job of explaining cloud infrastructures it doesn’t accurately identify the variation of controls and services that cloud hosts provide for virtualized services including difference in cost. Currently my company uses Tierpoint and Greenhouse for hosted services. Tierpoint offers excellent support and solid...

...Personal Skills People have many personal skills, and they want to use them in their jobs. Someone is good at imagination; others do well in designing or fixing, etc and I am also not the exception. I determine a major which suit my skills include calculation, fixing machines and drawing. I am good at math, and it is also my favorite subject at school. Math is the subject that everybody hates in my family, but I am completely different. Math is very complicated; it can drive everyone crazy. When I was a young, I would spend whole days trying to solve some difficult mathematics questions. In addition, I also got talent in math; I often had the highest grades in every test. Playing with numbers makes me feel free because I can find more than one way to solve just one question. I always made questions and focused one’s attention to find solutions. However, if you think that you have talent, then you don’t practice anymore; it will make your brain become slower and slower. You will be lagged behind your classmates who have intension. Practicing everyday will help you calculating faster and improving your accuracy. Besides being good at math, I was also interested in fixing machines. I often fixed my things in my house even though they were in good condition. If they were not broken, I would also dismantle them, so my parents called me a naughty boy. In my family, I was mostly self-fixed machines although I still had few mistakes. My father could fix machines, but he didn’t do...
