...Zachary Hagan-Sanchez Should the Washington Redskins Change their name? No, the Washington Redskins should not change their name. They have had the name since the franchise was born in 1937, which is 80 years ago. If people want to change the Washington Redskins name and mascot then there are going to be lots of other teams in professional sports as well as in colleges and high schools that are going to have to change their names too. The Oneida Indian Nation has started a campaign for the NFL to stop using a racial slur as the name of Washington’s football team; they also want the mascot changed to something that is not offensive to Native Americans. They are not wrong about the meaning of the word Redskin, if you look it up in the dictionary it is defined as “Used as a disparaging term for Native American.” The name was not picked 80 years ago to be offensive and a slur and for many decades no one had a problem with it until now. Whether or not the name gets changed there are still going to be people on both sides of the fence that are either going to be happy or upset. I personally think they should just leave it alone and move on. There is always going to some kind of problem whether it is racial or something different, what people need to remember is that we are all human regardless of the color of our skin or the name of a team or what a mascot looks...

...I think the washington Redskins should change their name because it is offensive, the name has been a hot topic for quite some time, and they could easily change the name to something else. Redskins is a term used by europeans when they first came to the new world. The word was used a reference to the indians darker sometimes reddish tinted skin. The Redskins team name didn't just become a hot topic it's been a hot topic for 31 years. Since 1972 people have been saying how offensive the name is to the native americans. The Redskins may lose the rights to their mascot, and will not have any new stadiums built for the team until the name is changed. Other teams have also changed their names, and it has not change how the fans see them or their profit from the games. The Redskins should change their name because it is the right thing to do if native american beleive the name of a team that represents them should be changed then who are we to say no. “Redskins can't possibly honor a heritage or noble character trait, nor can it possibly be considered a neutral term. It's an insult, a slur, no matter how benign the present day intent.” said Bob Costas, NBC sports host. The term redskin is originally used to refer the native...

...This comment was not made in class; however, it was made in the video by the people being interviewed. When the people being interviewed were talking about the reasons why they find the use of Native Americans as mascots to be negative, one person says. “I can’t imagine any other race where that would be considered acceptable. This comment came from the fact that one of the football teams in America is called the “Redskins”. The term “redskins” is a derogatory term that is used towards the Native Americans. When the person being interviewed said this comment, I thought of any other possibilities that could be used as a team name; Gypsies and Rednecks. Gypsy is a racial slur toward the Romanian people and Redneck is one towards Caucasians....

...In the Redskins stadium 40% are Dallas cowboy’s fans in 6 tries the camera shows fans. What is the probability that a Dallas fan will be seen on television? n=6 p=.40 q=.60 My variables are 0,1,2,3,4,5,6 P(x) = nCx(p ^x)*(q^ n-x) nCx=[( n! / (n-x)! ) / x! ] = 6! / (6-1)! *1! = 720/120 = 6 p ^ x = .40 ^ 1=.40 q ^ n – x = .60 ^ 6 – 1 = .60 ^ 5 = .07776 6 * .40* .0776 = .186 chance of one of the fans being a Dallas cowboy fan. Oh Yeah… | Example: Toss a coin for 12 times. What is the probability of getting exactly 7 heads. Step 1: Here, Number of trials n = 12 Number of success r = 7 (since we define getting a head as success) Probability of success on any single trial p = 0.5 Step 2: To Calculate nCr formula is used. nCr = ( n! / (n-r)! ) / r! = ( 12! / (12-7)! ) / 7! = ( 12! / 5! ) / 7! = ( 479001600 / 120 ) / 5040 = ( 3991680 / 5040 ) = 792 Step 3: Find pr. pr = 0.57 = 0.0078125 Step 4: To Find (1-p)n-r Calculate 1-p and n-r. 1-p = 1-0.5 = 0.5 n-r = 12-7 = 5 Step 5: Find (1-p)n-r. = 0.55 = 0.03125 Step 6: Solve P(X = r) = nCr p r (1-p)n-r = 792 × 0.0078125 × 0.03125 = 0.193359375 The probability of getting exactly 7 heads is 0.19 I am keeping my fingers crossed that this is right and correct. ...American names is something that I have discussed numerous times in the past. I am a Washington Redskins fan as well as a Florida State Seminoles fan. I do believe that neither team nor the other teams, car companies or the military feel that the use of Native American names is derogatory or racist in any way. I agree with their use and although some might feel I am unsympathetic, I believe that the use of these names is meant to be more honorary then racist. Although dictionaries state the definition of the word redskin is a racial descriptor of negative intent, the Oxford Dictionary states the following and many other sources agree that it was not originally a negative meaning: “Redskin is first recorded in the late 17th century and was applied to the Algonquian peoples generally but specifically to the Delaware (who lived in what is now southern New York State and New York City, New Jersey, and eastern Pennsylvania). Redskin referred not to the natural skin color of the Delaware, but to their use of vermilion face paint and body paint. In time, however, through a process that in linguistics is called pejoration, by which a neutral term acquires an unfavorable connotation or denotation, redskin lost its neutral, accurate descriptive sense and became a term of disparagement.” This topic is in the news recently as some are currently fighting to have the courts make the Washington Redskins change their name. At this point, many people: 79% according to a recent AP poll and 90%...

...“'Oh my God, they killed Kenny!' 'You bastards!'” Its 10:00pm on Wednesday October 24th, I sit down on my couch, and along with 2.4 million Americans, tune into the Season 18 premiere of South Park “Go Fund Yourself”. Tonight’s episode both the Washington Redskins, and Kickstarter are on the chopping block. The boys leave school to start up a company that does nothing, they have trouble succeeding until the Redskins copyright is dropped. The boys swoop in and use the Redskins’ logo for their startup company. This leads to the NFL football team being portrayed as native Americans, Kickstarter as a colonist camp, along with plenty of satire on how the business world cares little for the consumer. This episode is a perfect example of why South...

...Never Say Never It’s hard to believe in this day and age that racism is still presently typical as the latest turmoil over the Washington Redskins football team’s name and image. Yet some fans and the owner of the team defend the name like it was a biblical symbol. It is hard to fathom their defiance and meaningless excuses like the quote from the owner “ I will never, change the name! Washington Redskins’ is much more than just a name. It stands for strength, courage, and respect—the very values that are so intrinsic to Native American culture 1.” If that was the case then why are the real communities of First Nations people not backing the owner and fan’s reasoning? The owner of the Redskins is a man named Dan Snyder, a Jew who you would...

...1960: Clint Murchison, Jr., and Bedford Wynne were awarded an expansion franchise in the NFL at the annual league meeting in Miami Beach. The Cowboys were to play as a "swing" team, playing every other team one time during the first season, although listed in the Western Division standings. On September 24th the Cowboys host the Pittsburgh Steelers at the Cotton Bowl in their first official game. The Cowboys held the lead into the 4th Quarter but watched helpless as Quarterback Bobby Lane led the Steelers to a 35-24 come from behind win. The Cowboys would go to lose their first ten games before earning a tie with Giants in New York, in the next to last game of the season. The Cowboys would go on to lose their final game of the season to close out their inaugural season winless at 0-11-1. 1961: Now in the Eastern Division, the Cowboys started their second season at the Cotton Bowl on September 17th still seeking their first win in franchise history, playing the Pittsburgh Steelers. Thanks to Kicker Allan Green's 27-yard Field Goal, the Cowboys won 27-24 win, to start the season 1-0. The Cowboys would go on to win three of their first four games, beating the expansion Minnesota Vikings twice. However, once Dallas faced the rest of the league it was back to reality as they finished with a 4-9-1 record. 1962: The Cowboys began to show some promise in year three, as their offense scored the second most points in the league at 398, on the way to a 4-3-1 start. However, the defense...

...Robert Griffin III was once the crowned prince of the NFL. Coming off a stellar rookie season in 2012 in which he led the Washington Redskins to the playoffs, Griffin was considered the next can’t-miss superstar. Then, he missed — And kept missing. Because of injuries and a combination of ego and bad management, Griffin looks like just the latest over-hyped promising quarterback to enter the NFL and flame out before he could fulfill his potential. Still just 26 years old and in need of a fresh start elsewhere, reports say that as many as 10 teams could be looking to pick him up off of the scrap heap. So, which teams could they be? Below is a ranking of every NFL franchise from the least to the most likely to take a shot on Griffin for the...

...Who do you think the best coaches in the National Football League history are? I will give you an idea. One was around for the very first Super Bowl and had a trophy named after him. The other is a gentleman and, some say, good, old western guy. Any ideas yet? Vince Lombardi and Tom Landry are two of the best in the history of the NFL because of everything they accomplished as coaches. Lombardi and Landry know everything there is to know about the game of football. Lombardi has always been known for his dedication to coaching by friends and family. He was known for saying "It's not whether you get knocked down, it's whether you get up” (Vince Lombardi). I believe this shows his dedication because he knows it does not matter how hard you fall in life, as long as you pick yourself up and keep trying it is all worth it. When he was in high school, he studied to be a priest before transferring to St. Francis High School, where he became a star fullback. He received a scholarship to Fordham University in 1933. There he studied law but in his heart he always wanted to coach football. His first coaching job was at ST. Cecilla High School in 1939, where he coached basketball, football, and baseball; he had championship seasons with all of them. He later left there and became an assistant coach at the United States Military Academy at West Point. He told all of his teams: “winning isn’t everything; it’s the only thing” (Norwood). This means, if you do not win, no one will remember...

I have no visuals today because the three things I deem important enough to talk about can be given justice by simply showing you a picture. My family has my heart day in and day out simply because of their unconditional love and support for me. I have two siblings that I would absolutely die for in any circumstance. I proritize them at the top of my pecking order besides my religion. I’m a keen sports lover and you won’t find a bigger Dallas Cowboy fan the guy you are looking at right now, I relish the Cowboys and yes, we always believer we’re going to win the Super Bowl every year. For no real reason really other than we are the Cowboys. My friends have a huge impact in my demeanor towards a lot of things in life, they help make me, me. ...Discussion Forum Unit 2 The Green Bay Packers are a professional American football team based in Green Bay, Wisconsin, that competes in the National Football League (NFL). They are members of the league's North division of the National Football Conference (NFC). Green Bay is the third-oldest franchise in the NFL, organized and starting play in 1919.It is the only non-profit, community-owned major league professional sports team based in the United States.Home games are played at Lambeau Field. The Packers are the last vestige of "small town teams" common in the NFL during the 1920s and 1930s. Founded in 1919 by Earl "Curly" Lambeau and George Whitney Calhoun, the franchise traces its lineage to other semi-professional teams in Green Bay dating back to 1896. In 1919 and 1920, the Packers competed against other semi-pro clubs from around Wisconsin and the Midwest. They joined the American Professional Football Association (APFA), the forerunner of today's NFL, in 1921. Although Green Bay is by far the smallest professional sports market in North America, its local fan and media base extends 120 miles south into Milwaukee, where it played selected home games between 1933 and 1994. The Packers have won 13 league championships, the most in NFL history, with nine NFL titles prior to the Super Bowl era and four Super Bowl victories. They won the first two Super Bowls in 1967 and 1968 and were the only NFL team to defeat the American Football League (AFL) before to the AFL–NFL merger...

The success of an organizational performance management system is identified by the overall success and professional development of their employees. To understand and define an effective performance management system, organizational leadership should know their employee’s needs, enhance their competencies, have an effective communication plan, and empower their employees with knowledge resulting in a highly motivated workforce. Several performance management strategies have been developed and implemented over the years; however effective and successful performance management systems continue to be a challenge. Over the past few years, organizations have adopted coaching strategies to help enhance their performance management system. With the adoption of successful coaching principles, organizations have seen higher performance outputs and overall job satisfaction. Loehr and Schwartz have described executive leaders as “corporate athletes” and suggested that to perform at high levels over lengthy periods of time they must train in the same systematic, multi-level way athletes do.
