...Educational Administration Articles The article Principals’ Values in School Administration was written by an assistant professor in Educational Administration at the University of Osmangazi in Turkey. The author’s source was from the Educational Sciences: Theory and Practice journal. I found this article interesting because it discussed the values that principals should have. The data was obtained from nineteen principals from different types of schools in Turkey. The results from the study showed that principals should have some common values such as justice, confidence, school rules, and sedulity. The principals interviewed felt that power should be used as needed, but should also be equal with teachers and parents. Most principals also believed they should treat teachers fairly and keep conversations confidential. The author goes on to state that as professionals, principals should demonstrate certain traits such as honesty, participation, and knowledge. The source of the second article “Instructional Studies of the Rural Teaching Principal: Double the Trouble or Twice the Fun!” is International Studies in Educational Administration journal. I found this article interesting because I teach in a rural community and wanted to learn more about principals that lead schools in similar communities, as well as, help teach. The authors defined a teaching principal as a principal who has a “double load” or dual roles in teaching and administration. Results showed that the teaching...

Working smarter not harder is one way to be efficient. The author of this peer reviewed article, an expert in the field based on his education, title and position, discusses not only the truth about healthcare and its revenue and spending, but brings to light a new outside-of-the-box idea for reducing waste. As a future nurse and healthcare administrator, I found this article intriguing and unique. Even though this article grew out of a turnaround for one healthcare system, others nationwide would be wise to adopt and follow its discoveries. First, Dr. Kaplan and his board identified their current management procedures benefited themselves, employees, vendors, rather than their patients. To resolve this, his board adopted the production and management methods of Toyota, the leading carmaker, in identifying their target consumer, their patients, and ways to identify, reduce if not eliminate waste. Following in Taiichi Ohno’s footsteps, the father of the Toyota production method, Dr. Kaplan and his board focused on reducing and...

...Topical Reference List: Inclusion of Autism Spectrum Disorder Students Lindsey Liermann Liberty University Abstract This paper includes a reference list of literature relating to components of successful inclusion for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder. In general, the literature seems to indicate what practices are effective for successfully including ASD students with typical peers, as well as, if inclusion is right for all ASD students. The literature includes evidence that the different components support students’ progress in general education settings. More empirical data needs to be collected to see if different components work for all students with Autism Spectrum Disorder while with typical peers. Keywords: students with ASD, inclusion, typical peers, successful strategies, perceptions of inclusion, support, and modification for students. Topical Reference List: Inclusion of Autism Spectrum Disorder Students Until recently, the common practice was to pull children with Autism or other disabilities out of regular education classrooms for majority of the day or even have them completely segregated. It seemed more efficient to provide specialized instruction in separate classrooms where children with Autism could received individualized attention without having to alter the mainstream curriculum that typical peers received. But, different practices were proposed in the 1980’s for greater efforts to “include”...

...PART A Report on Teaching of Science with list of references at the end Introduction This report aims to look at how we should be implementing the Science curriculum, in accordance to what the authors and professionals think, it will look at how it should be taught in primary schools. The key stage I have chosen to examine is lower key stage two. Lower key stage two consists of children in Year 3 (aged 7-8) and Year 4 (8-9). The report will examine the National Curriculum and how teaching of Science is defined by them. The National Curriculum (2014 p.155) requires children of this age phase to work scientifically. This would namely be looking at encouraging children to ask their own questions, how to set up a practical investigation, gathering the results through numerous graphs/charts (recording data) comparing and analysing what makes a fair test, predicting what the outcome may be (with independent and dependant variables), how to make observations based on these findings, identifying and comparing what they predicted as opposed to what happened, and lastly being able to answer questions using scientific terminology and knowledge. By using various literature and documentation, this report will look at how teachers can teach Science but at the same time be using the National Curriculum as a guideline. Review of teaching Working Scientifically Ofsted (2013) states that the new National Curriculum for 2014 explains the reasoning for teaching Science. It states that pupils...

"It's Our Best Choice Right Now": Exploring How Charter School Parents Choose. Education Policy Analysis Archives, 21(81), 1-19. In this journal article, Research Associate at the Research Alliance for New York City Schools, Dr. Adriana Villavicencio, discusses the reasons why parents choose charter schools instead of the public school options available to them within the districts where they live. The author states that most people believe that charter schools are being chosen more because “quality drives consumer choice” (Villavicencio 2013). After interviewing parents who enrolled students in two different charter schools, Villavicencio discovers that parents do not necessarily make choices about school selection based upon school performance or quality, but on a variety of different influences such as socioeconomic status, school location, and education level of the parent.
