...In this week’s journal reflection, we were asked to select three important ideas from our assigned readings that we personally feel that is important for effective middle school teachers to use while building a safe and welcoming classroom community for all students and parents to enter into the classroom. The three important points, I have a choice to speak about is the importance of how to interact with the student’s parents/caregivers, facilitating a meaningful learning environment for the students to learn and grow, and the importance of always having a backup plan for when a substitute teacher comes into the classroom. With the following ideas in mind for the effective middle school teacher, the teacher will be able to work along side...

...Reflection Journal # 8 As with all of the previous modules, this week’s reading was very insightful. There were many key points within the reading. These key points include, but are not limited to, early intervention, opportunities through law and eligibility for early intervention within early childhood special education. The reading also talked about the individual family service plan (IFSP) and curriculum and instructional strategies. Special education early intervention makes a difference in the lives of the children, the parents and families. The principles governing early childhood special education are applicable in all educational areas, in all levels of severity, and in all categories of disability for students of all ages. Children with disabilities learn skills in sequential manner. Early intervention provides a wide range of educational, nutritional, child care, and family supports for children birth to 5 years old. Early intervention special education programs enable educators and parents to promote child development and independence at an earlier age by correcting or minimizing the effects of the disability. With accurate assessments, there are opportunities to prevent or discover secondary disabilities quicker. Congress reauthorized the original special education law, PL 94-142, in 1986, and later updated it again in 1997 and 2004. That reauthorization extended mandatory educational services to children with developmental delays or disabilities...

...Marcus Scott UNV-104 September 28, 2014 Eric Nordin Reflection Journal Taking UNV-104 has taught me many essential things that needed to know. To start off the information that was given to help me with my thesis statement proved to be very beneficial on so many levels. I know that I must not be opinionated in my thesis over have it very cluttered. I’ve also learned how to successfully create an outline for an expository paper. Something that I have never tackled before. I now know that writing in third person is accurate in these types of papers. I’ve also found that creating a draft makes writing much easier. As I have stated before in discussion questions, I never stared with a draft in my papers and that proved to show in my grades from previous institutes. Correctly using the right sources to make my paper a collegiate paper was also something that I will cherish from this class. I found that correctly citing data retrieved from reliable sources made my essay flow and sound much better. It helped me get my point across because I had information to help me back up my claims. Also discussed in this class was the importance and benefits of using proper communication. I learned that effective communication can help us not only in school, but also in our career paths. Being able to correctly express yourself in writing shows that you are educated and credible. Out of everything that I have learned in this course I would say the most challenging was the CLC team assignment...

...Reflection Journal Carolyn M Reed University of Phoenix Teamwork, Collaboration and Conflict Resolution SOC/110 Dr. Dina Avery February 04, 2015 Reflection Journal In the first week of Class, we went over communication skills and strategies working in groups. I thought to myself, what I could take from this class. Why is this so important? Well, little did I know how crucial the information that we covered would and does have such a major impact on my life in all areas. The strategies and skills that were discussed are those that are used in my work environment every day. I am thinking that if I pay close attention to what is taught I can become better at being me. There is only one like me, so I need to learn the skills I need to become a better co-worker, and leader. This just might be more than I realize. Discussions on how to communicate in groups and with individuals is something that is definitely going to enhance knowledge and skills on communication. As I set in Class, Dr. Avery was teaching on people skills, understanding group dynamics, and communication in a team. It became clear to me, that I had some skills but not enough to carry me further in my college, my career and socially as well. This class touched bases on how to communicate overall and to interact more effectively. As we continued learning the different skills that are needed in communicating, I learned that in order to be a stand out individual in my current position and interviewing...

...Tasliym Muhammad STLDR-570-A Group Leadership Professor Kim Spinks Reflection Paper #2 July 19, 2012 “My Role within My Organization” I would like to start my revealing my “purpose for joining” the organization I work for. Education is very important to me. When I made the decision to relocate to Pennsylvania one of my main concerns was where my children would attend school. As a child I attended school in the Delaware County area of Pennsylvania and I knew that quality education was very hard to find in that area. I was pleasantly surprised when I found out that since I left as a little girl, the area had opened a Charter school, it was a great feeling to know that my children would not be hurt academically by the move to Pennsylvania. I was equally satisfied when I was offered a position within the Charter school (www.chestercommunitycharter.org). This would be a way for me to grasp a feel for the community and become an active participant in the lives of the residents. I have had a very successful year thus far which can be attributed to several reasons, the main reason being my ability to adhere to the “Law of Connection” (Maxwell, 1991). The “Law of Connection” as described by John Maxwell, also has been labeled as the ability to “encourage the heart” by Kouzes and Posner and emotional intelligence by other researchers in the field of leadership. This ability in my opinion is an internally learned ability, it cannot be taught, it’s something...

...This has been very interesting week. A week filled with enthusiasm . In terms of emotional labor, psychologists often use the term “surface level emotional labor” to illustrate that a large part of dealing with people at work is basically “faking it” or displaying emotions we don't actually feel, like feigning interest, sympathy, or understanding (Brotheridge & Grandey, 2002). I disagree with this statement. So for example, a nurse who feels sympathetic at the sight of an injured child has no need to act' (Chu, 2002). As a matter of fact, she will be able help the child, be sympathetic and be herself. As a result, that nurse is probably more likely to enjoy her work, a positive impact from the performance of emotional labor. Chu would call this emotional labor the provision of an altruistic service. The sense of gratification is a psychological benefit to the Front Line Service Workers and can act as a reason for being a Front Line Service Workers, or as an alleviator of pain suffered during the course of work or otherwise. A real estate agent ((Chu, 2002) explained: 'It's exciting when I know I've helped somebody or helped an officer. Um, it helps me.' Customers, based on their liking and the societal norms (Chu, 2002), have a certain degree of expectations on the level and quality of service provided to them by organization. Organizations thus have an inclination to have their employees and Front Line Service Workers to have this orientation towards them. I...

...Chilblains of the feet and hands Identification of Issue Last week, we had an admission of interesting diagnosis that I have never encounter before. An 11-year-old, male patient with history of vasculitic autonomic neuropathy diagnosed at University of Michigan Hospital by nerve biopsy, presented to the ED with pain in his hands and feet for the last 2 days and flare up of "Chilblain" symptoms. No signs of swelling or change in color, no rash, no erythema, No lesion, no fever, and no change in his walking. He was admitted to the floor for IV steroid and pain management. When we received the sign-out from the ED doctor on this case; I was wondering what “chilblains” means and how I can manage it. The term chilblains is a descriptive word usually referring to an idiopathic medical condition, often cold-induced vasculopathy characterised by dusky red-purple nodules over skin of the hands and feet (Collins, Arnold, & Kissel, 2013). Chilblain is a clinical diagnosis; therefore, it is important to obtain a detailed history and do a comprehensive physical examination to exclude associated conditions, such as systematic disease or connective tissue disorder. Furthermore, full laboratory workup for a patient with chilblains should be done to exclude any systemic or autoimmune disorders, including the following lab tests: complete blood count with differentia, antinuclear antibody screen, cold agglutinin, cryoglobulin, cryofibrinogen and antiphospholipid antibody pane. Moreover, nerve...

...Onos Igho Intro to Entrepreneurship Prof Hofgan Dec. 4th, 2012 Case Study: MooBella Inc The categories of costs that I would expect to see in a list of MooBella start-up costs are as follows: Equipment, furniture, and fixtures Leasehold improvements Installation of equipment and fixtures Computers and other technology Owner time Professional services Promotion and advertising Insurance Debt service Taxes Franchise fees Supplies /products cost per machine Inventory Wages and benefits Reflecting on the emotional and other nonmonetary factors that were likely involved for Bruce Ginsberg, one critical component of getting an accurate startup cost estimate is to determine the length of time it's going to take to open your startup business. MooBella had almost taken 20 years for the idea to market and develop. Even though it seemed to be a simple concept it was technically complex and nearly cost the company $85 million to bring to market. There were so many challenges with the research, development and start-up processes. The machines were very costly and it took 5 years to complete the computer portion of the project. There is the development of major systems in Solid Works software which include two refrigeration systems, a pneumatic system, a consumer interface, a pumping system, and a dry-goods distribution system. With Solid Works Premium, they will have all the modeling capabilities they need to design each different type of component, whether it’s made...

...Hello, Mr. Adam, and Readers of the Journal Entry The challenging tasks of these units simply demonstrate a small piece of the challenges we shall be encountering as this course unfolds. As for me, provided the challenges are interesting and provided they are good teachers, I am fully comfortable with it. This Learning Journal Entry (LJE) is of two parts: one is for the programming exercise and the other for my reflective first-person narrative of my learning procedures this week. Part 1. The Programming Exercise. This part serves to demonstrate the systematic approach I have taken to tackling the programming exercise attached to submitting this LJE. At first, I will briefly lay out the program requirement, and then I will express some considerations....

...Examples of Reflective Writing Example 1 I arrived on the ward at 7:30 ready to begin a 12-hour shift. After receiving handover, my mentor assigned me the job of bathing Mr B with the help of a healthcare assistant. Mr B has Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD), a progressive disease of the nervous system with rapid deterioration due to spongiform encephalopathy. He is not expected to live to Christmas, even though he is only 19 years old. He is mentally aware of what is going on but is physically unable to demonstrate activities of daily living, including eating and drinking, has limited communication skills and is doubly incontinent. He is unsafe on his feet so mobilises with a wheelchair. I approached Mr B’s bed and asked his consent to take him for a bath. While the bath was running we began helping him to undress. He looked rather nervous. At the thought of myself being in his position, being the same age as him, I began to feel embarrassed too. I thought that I could not possibly be a professional individual if I let my embarrassment and sympathy get in the way of my nursing care. We assisted Mr B into the bath and started his wash. I knew he was uncomfortable and wanted to be able to wash himself, but was unable to do so. I was finding it difficult to look him in the eye, especially when it came to washing his genitalia. I tried to ease this by making conversation, but in a way this made matters worse. After the bath we dried Mr B, dressed him and returned him...

...of communication amongst the health care professionals and how a good nursing documentation is an integral part of nursing. It will also demonstrate how reflection enabled me to make sense of and learn from this experience, as well as identify any further learning developments needed to improve my practice and achieve the level of competency needed for when I qualify as an assistant practitioner. While discussing the knowledge underpinning practice, evidence based literature will be reviewed to support my discussion and for the purpose of reflection the essay will be written in the first person. Spouse, J, et al (2008). Jonhs, C (2009) defined reflection as learning through our every day experiences, towards realising one’s vision of desirable practice as a lived reality. He also added that it is a critical and a flexible process of self inquiry and transformation of being and becoming the practitioner you desire to be. However, Ghaye, T et al. (2000) stated that for the health care professionals to develop a more reflective posture, they must fully embrace both the principles and the practices of reflection. It is about becoming more aware of how we learn and how this affects what we think, feel and do. There are different models for reflection; some are more complex and detailed than others. To help me with my reflection, I have chosen Gibbs (1988) reflective cycle as a guide: The names of the patient, staff members and health care setting will be changed to protect...
