Presentation personal reflection:

In week 1, when I joined this IAB120 bridging culture excited, I was very excited to being in such a group from different cultural backgrounds. Cara and Maria are from Australia. Rhianna is from from Scotland. However I was a little bit worried about will we have conflicts during the process as some are doing business major, but some from IT and Accounting. In addition, I was worried about would they get my points when communicating with each other? Would they respect me as I am from Asia? With my excitement and worries, every were allocated for doing research on different parts.

The second week, after a simple self-introduction and completing simple research tasks, I quickly integrated into this active group, with Cara, Maria, Tara, Rhianna. We talked about interesting culture events from different cultures and shared experience visiting a foreign country. After that, we went through all the research information together and collected relevant data we might use for our first assessment and further report. We were required to do further research on our own topic and thought about available time for all of us to meet outside of the classroom in Library V-Block.

The third week,we were doing the online test about culture knowledge to see what is our strength and weakness, and how to improve it in the future study. As a result, we shared and analyzed our result and saw who had strong knowledge in our team and who needed to learn more about the country that he or she is not familiar with. We did communicate each others well and there is few conflicts existing during the process and we were now getting to know each other. In addition, we had 3 countries that we would be focused on which are Argentina, Indonesia and Iran. My part is mainly focus on geographical information and relevant issues for those three countries.

In week 4, we have Tara joined to our group with her prepared printed paper. In the beginning we were worried about this late-join would cause many problems because she was new for us, but presentation was just few weeks away. we introduced the findings from previous week and started doing the powerpoint.

On Tuesday afternoon, we had group meeting at library to fix our content and add theories and reference for data and images. We worked together about 2 hours and we almost did everything. After that, we had a practice presentation. Even the time was over 16 mins, but we believed we could make it 15 mins ar the presentation day.

Week 5, We had done all of the things we need to prepare. We printed out the powerpoint slides and got ready to present.

Week5 and week 6 we did saw how other mates in our class representing which were really great. We would do it in the week 7.

Hsm/230 Ethical Reflection

...An ethical decision that I made in my professional life is to go back to school to get a degree in Human Services. I been in the medical field for ten plus years now. I like my job but I want to do something different. I want another job where I am still helping out my fellow man. When I decided to go back to school I had to figure out if I would be able to go to school and work at the same time. I went to a community college at first to study Human Services but I realized the classes were getting hectic for me to sign up for because I had to find a class that would fit my schedule as far as the time and the dates. When things did not work out I had to decide whether or not to continue going to school at the community college or find another school that will work around my work schedule and my family. My family suggested to me that I find a school on line. I did my research and I chose to continue my education at the University of Phoenix. This is my fourth semester taken classes on line and I love it. This makes me happy because I can work, get my degree, and have time for my family members all at the same time. I want to be a Human Service worker for children or the elderly. I can’t wait until I finish because I will be accomplishing something for myself and my...

Week 1 Reflection

...Week 1 Reflection Jonathan Guerrero MGT/230 Week 1 Reflection According to class in week 1 we discussed different ways to be in charge as a manger or in management. We learned the four functions of the management process, division of labor, critical thinking, and communicating clearly and affectively. The first week of class really reflect the many functions of being a manager or using these tools to become a manager. Using critical thinking helps to analyze and make decisions. We learned to use critical thinking to make a decision on impulse but to not make an impulsive action. The actions are to be delegated by management and needs to be communicated clearly and affectively. Parts of using critical thinking we also use the division of labor in management. This involves assigning tasks to workers, using a chain of command, and using a line of authority. In class we discussed the four functions of the management process. The four functions are planning, organizing, leading, and controlling. “Planning is specifying the goals to be achieved and deciding in advance the appropriate action needed to achieve goals” (Bateman & Snell, 2010 pg15). In planning it provides the foundation for other functions. It is an ongoing process and it’s a decision process that allocates assets. Organizing is the management function of assembling and coordinating human, financial, physical, informational, and other resources needed to achieve goals. Examples of organizing are system...

...educational system never received any notable reform under this doctrine only more government control in the years to come. Increased governmental control over America educational system has crippled the power of local school board and superintendents along with dismissing teachers as professional individuals. School boards have a history of more than 200 years of governing local school districts as a separate independent entity (Land, D., 2002, p. 229). The purpose of the school board has not change over the years. Although the primary goal of this governing bod, through the years, has shifted for different reasons usually tied to some form of politics (p. 230). For example, not long after the first school came into existence, urban elected board members were thought to be elect because they lived in urban districts (p. 230). These types of elections did not sit well with...

...Reflection Summary Team “A” MGT 230: Management Theory and Practice October 27, 2012 Shannon Thomas Reflection Summary There was much that our team learned from the material assigned last week; for example, to every successful organization there are four essential functions of management. Prior to this course and week one, we had some knowledge of what made a company work; leadership, organization, and planning are all necessary for the success of any company or organization. However, we had little or no knowledge about the controlling function.  It is our understanding that controlling is both essential as well as beneficial to the performance of any organization. Controlling allows a company to maximize its resources and increases efficiency. It is very important to any company; in fact, the controlling function is so vital that it could determine the reputation of a company both in a good and bad manner. The elements which compose the internal factors of a company include, personnel, structure of management, and departments within an organization. On the other hand, just as important as internal factors, an example of external factors would be the environment surrounding the location of any company. This is important because it dictates the customers they may be serving, the community where the majority of their business is conducted, and other possible relationships they may have with other businesses. In order for managers to succeed it is necessary they...

Week 3 Reflection Essay

...Week 3 Learning Team Reflection Summary MGT/230 Management Theory and Practice January 6, 2013 Linda DeYampert Week 3 Learning Team Reflection Summary Learning Team B collaborated and discussed the previous week’s objectives, which included the planning function of management, and the various factors that influence planning. Planning can be affected by legal issues, ethics and corporate social responsibility. A companys planning is also influenced by strategic, tactical, operational, and contingency planning. As a team we determined that learning about the steps of planning from the textbook’s learning objectives increased our knowledge through the learning activities and the instructor’s teachings. Since we are all in the process of pursuing our career, planning is an important step to ensure that we successfully accomplish our goals. The textbook defines planning as a conscious, systematic process of making decisions about goals and activities that an individual, group, work unit, or organization will pursue in the future (Bateman, 2011). Planning is an essential tool that can be used either in one’s personal life or a company. The planning function consist of identifying and diagnosing the problem, generating alternative solutions, evaluating alternatives, making a choice, implementing, and evaluation. This is a purposeful effort to accomplish ones goals. Planning provides individuals and work units with a clear map to follow in their future activities; at the...

Reflection Summary

...Week One Reflection Summary MGT/230 June 20, 2012 Reflection Summary Week one discussed three chapters which were managing, the external environment and organizational culture. Management In chapter one, we learned about the four key elements that make the current business landscape very different from the one we knew in the past. These are known as globalization, technological change including the development and applications of the Internet, knowledge management and collaboration across organizational boundaries. Managing in the New Competitive Landscape We learned that globalization is one of the most important part is any business. Many corporations do business worldwide and globalization helps them interact with other countries worldwide. It helps companies grow. Technology is another part of the business world, which created opportunities. Knowledge management helps learn new ideas, collaborate, and put those ideas into success. We also learned that one of the most important processes of management is to make sure people in different organizations communicate and collaborate the right way in different departments. Collaboration across organization boundaries is the main key for any business to succeed. Managing for Competitive Advantage Another very important section was the discussion on how to survive in any business. ...Week Three Reflection Summary Team B Christopher Nieto Anais Romero MGT/230 January 14, 2013 Marlo Cross Reflection Summary My name is Anais Romero and during week two the team reviewed planning as a management function. We learned about the various factors that influence strategic, tactical, operational, and contingency planning. Finally, the team learned about the effects that legal issues, ethics, and corporate social responsibility have on management planning. As a team we learned about the basic steps involved in the planning function of management. Planning improves innovation, speed, quality, and costs. Those are qualities that make a business successful. We learned that the planning phases are not only used by large organizations but also that planning has become a widespread management function. In order for smaller organizations to be competitive if not aggressive, planning is needed. In week two, we learned about the six basic steps used in the planning process: situational analysis, alternative goals and plans, goal and plan evaluation, goal and plan selection, implementation, and monitor and control. As a team, we found that many of us worked in businesses that have succeeded due in part to the planning phase of business. As these businesses continue to be competitive, changes need to be done using a plan. We understand that planning is applicable to our personal lives as well. Planning daily tasks, events, and agendas...

Ethical Decision Reflection

...Checkpoint: Ethical Decision Reflection Phoebe Edwards HSM/230 Carrie Cooper 3/19/13 I have not had to make any decision dealing with ethical decision. But if I did have to make ethical decision the factors I would consider are to make a clear logical choice about the issue. Also I would try to solve the issue by simple utilitarian thinking, this make you look at moral duties and virtues, bring a person to a derived from the principles of right or wrong. Say like if I had people living at my house and one was not doing anything around the house then I would say to them that if they could not help around the house that they would have to leave, but if I have to talk to that person more than once, Then that when I would make my ethical decision making and the action would be put into affect. The problems that we run into are that everybody has their own views and making their decisions is based on their views, which that bring me to the ethical decisions. That make me ask questions and look and at my actions of right and wrong as with the feeling of honesty and fairness and with some compassion. When you have decision making with action that make people action and...

Freedom to Comment

...Freedom to Comment Reflection Miranda Davis HSM/230 April, 27,2014 There are many instances where I can think of being a part of a group and strongly disagreeing with the actions of the group based on ethical grounds. That is part of growing up. We all will face a sort of peer pressure in life t some point. The one instance in my life that really stick out where I was totally against the group happened when I was in college. I worked at clothing store at the local mall. One of the requirements for working there was that you had to wear the clothes that were sold there or clothes similar to them. After working there for a month or so I stumbled upon a few of the girls taking clothes off the shelf and putting them in the back room. I was then told that sometimes the girls there would “borrow the clothes and wear them to work in that day and then put them back on the shelf for customers to buy. I did speak up and tell them I thought it was wrong. They then informed me that even the manager of the store did it. That she would even get merchandise and take it home and keep the tags there and pay for some of the stuff a little bit along. I was in shock. I proceeded by calling the home office and calling the district manager and reporting the issue. A few weeks later the district manager came in the store. I was then fired. All the girls told the district manager that I was causing arguments within the group and I was a trouble maker. I did find out later that...

Ethical Decision Reflection

...Ethical Decision Reflection HSM/230 Keyanna Rogers January 30, 2013 There have been many moments in my life that I can say that I am not proud of, but we learn from own mistakes. Nobody is perfect and we are going to keep making mistakes in life. We learn from our mistakes to make better choices in life. There was a moment in my life that I had to make a decision regarding my friend and my job. I worked at a retail store with a friend of mine; we went to high school together, and hung out from time to time. It was about 3 months into the job and she started to steal money from the register, and some merchandise from the store. This came back to both of us because we was responsible for closing and making sure our register had a certain amount plus the end of the day receipts was not adding up. So, I had to have a meeting with the store manager, and some corporate people of the company; because they were trying to fire me, and have me arrested. My job and work ethics was at stake, and the factor that I had to consider was how I am going to explain this to my landlord for not paying my rent. I had to make a decision to tell what really happened or take the fall for something I didn’t do. So, I told the truth my friend was fired and they didn’t press charges because she admitted to the crimes. This was a hard decision to make, but at the time I just moved on my own with my son, and fiancé. The outcome was...
