Reflection on Free Will I believe in several ideas concerning free will, determinism, and the ideas brought to us by Kane that talks about “surface freedoms” and his idea of “free will.” Because there are ideas about free will that make sense to me in a couple different areas I will try to connect. To start on a smaller scale, I would like to touch on the “surface freedoms” that Kane describes. It makes sense to me that free will is present, or at least more present, in an a example and the fact that we could walk into a store and buy anything that would satisfy our needs and wants. In Kane’s idea of “free will” also makes sense in the thought that we will never ultimately have the final say about our full controlling will. I also like the some of the ideas brought to us by the meaning of the term “Determinism.” I believe to some extent in the statement that reads, “Man’s life is a line that nature commands to outline upon the surface of the earth.” My meaning is that I do not believe that as soon as I’m born my life already has a path laid out and a destiny that I am following. In conclusion, I would like to make the point that although we do have free will, the phrase would make more sense if it were called limited free will. There is a reason we all have different interests and this is because we are all different people because of our parents and our environment. This can give us some of our originality but it seems that we need to fit this originality in the mold that is societal rule. Meaning, we have some “free will,” but very limited free will that we should be able to act in the confines of society that will ultimately
