Reflections of Then, Later, and Now When I was younger I imagined that everyone that was grown had been made that way from birth. As a child my mind wondered many things. How did parents become parents? Did children stay young forever? Can you think back when you where a child and all the questions that you asked your parents? Some of adults today may say that your child is a reflection of you when you where younger. Everything we did growing can be related to our thought process now. The decisions we made during the times when we understood also has a reflection of the person you are today. I was very young when I started pre-school. The school was made for little children so that you could start to learn the basic fundamental. Sharing, coloring, and learning the alphabetic symbols with other kids to seemed fun. I didn’t understand that I was also learning to tight my shoes along with other fundamentals that made the school fun. My sister and first cousin also attended the school with me. Whenever we all were together we had so much fun. Sometimes
I think about those days such as right now. Entering my first grade seemed a little strange to me. I attended a catholic school which had mass on certain days? This church was different from the Baptist church I regularly attended on Sundays. I didn’t understand the reason why other kids did not have churches in schools either. However once I graduated to the second grade my mother transferred my to a public school that was closer to our apartment. Riley Elementary School was the first public school I had ever experienced. I was really nervous the first day with all new classmates. The environment that felt so close bonded and together while attending catholic school suddenly disappeared. This new school

The Importance Of Contemplation

...well established craftsmanship and exploration of reflection. Most, if not all, praise its apparently enchanted power on the human mind through its indicated benefits. These suggestions and cases have stood the trial of time-they are generally acknowledged and very much advocated. For ages past the individuals who preceded us have said a lot with respect to this extraordinary blessing we as a whole gangs yet today now and then, we disregard to utilize. Why now would we say we are again helped to remember this? Every one of us are taking an interest either mindful or uninformed. in a quantum move bringing now and again, tumultuous changes in every aspect of our general public and world...

Fomenko’s New Chronology

...among the most bizarre of such theories is, undoubtedly, the “New Chronology”, which turned a not very well known Russian mathematician Anatoly Fomenko into a rather well known scandal figure. According to him, the Scaligerian chronology we use now is not only inaccurate, but also wildly incorrect as a result of later revisions, rewritings and inclusions by various conspiracy groups, such as Jesuits and the ruling family of the Russian Empire, Romanovs. Based on statistical data, zodiacs, and mathematical elements, used in chronology, he states that the historical period of humankind is shorter than it is supposed to be, with all the ancient history (everything before the 10th century AD) is but a reflection of what happened during the Middle Ages; Jesus Christ lived in 12th century; Mongol Hordes are in fact Russians, etc. Needless to say, the majority of scientific community considers the entire Fomenko’s work to be pseudoscience, although it has a number of followers. In my opinion, what it reminds me most is one giant, elaborate hoax, for it is way too eccentric to be treated seriously. If everything before certain date is a reflection of later events, what to do with objects from that period that do not fit into any later time? What about written sources? Were they all falsified by some immeasurably powerful organization that had enough time and effort to spare to write and distribute them,...

Comparison Of Breath And 5 Bell

...by Gail Jones, are two Australian novels that both focus on action and reflection as literary devices throughout their novels. These devices are used to help develop the theme and characters. Breath largely uses reflection as the story focuses on protagonist Pikelet, a middle aged man reflecting on his youth. 5 Bells also focuses on reflection, with many characters, as in this case there is more than one protagonist, reflecting on their past and the people they’ve lost. Reflection is used, not only to develop these characters, but also to help develop the major themes, of which 5 Bells major theme is how people to respond to grief, and for Breath the theme is how people respond and attempt to overcome fear. Breath addresses the theme of fear within the...

Church Observation

...They were there because of their devotion and because they embrace their religion very seriously. I saw a lot of young men and women, most of them alone or somewhere in the company of a female or male friend that arrived later. I would dare to say that as this is a catholic church, that the majority were heterosexuals, who have completed college and are now in the work field seeking a stable relationship and believe that faith or God are an important aspect of their identity. As I said before, they acted very respectfully and were very committed to enjoy and live the service. Interaction among them was very little; it was more about a connection with God through prayer and...

Where I Was Reflection

...“Where I Was’ Reflection Colby Gordillo ITT Tech GS 1145 Bart Demeter July 5, 2014 “Where I Was” Reflection . A few years ago I graduated from high school, and started working in the factory industry one month after. A few months later I attended college at Grand Rapids Community College. At that time, I did not know I was going to fail and drop out three times at that same college. And, then attend two other colleges. All of this had happened in the past 4 years. The reason as to why I had failed so many times was that I was not ready for school. I felt that I was ready because of just finishing high school, and that I would have that same mentality. Apparently I was wrong about that and it took me a few years to realize that. The first time I attended GRCC; I completed the first four weeks and then I dropped out. The second time I attended GRCC; I had to get off suspension and then I completed about two months, until I dropped out again. After that, I took a year off from school. When a year had passed I tried to return but I was on suspension once again. This time I was suspended from school and financial aid. By that time, I realized that I had dug a hole after my first fall out and it just got bigger. This hole had gotten so big, that I saw no point in attending GRCC anymore. I tried out the University of Phoenix and completed the first quarter with an A and B. I decided I didn’t like the online experience. Less than a month after, I signed up for ITT Tech. I...

Interpersonal Communication Self-Analysis

...Shankman (2015) states that self-consciousness is an awareness of yourself specifically your beliefs, values, emotions, strengths, and limitations which is enhanced by self-reflection (p. 21-25). By the middle of the semester, I noticed myself engaging in self-reflection more often. First, I started examining my actions and their effects on others. For example, I would say something to a friend and a couple minutes later think if that was the appropriate thing to say at the time, what I could have said differently, and what effect it had. In later conversations, this allowed me to ensure I said the correct thing. Eventually this helped lead to a greater self-awareness. I began thinking more about my beliefs and the occurrences of different emotions. The various class discussions also allowed me to improve upon this. For example, after a discussion about hot buttons, I now better understand what situations will make me upset, and after being able to discuss various topics with others, I now better understand my...

...Allen Covington HUM 201-001 Prof. C. Lincoln Self-Reflection Essay Introduction Self-reflection has been defined in a number of ways, but for the purpose of this thesis I will use it in a contemplative manner, toward the end of, relating how my experiences; ‘could affect my career as a Social Worker’. This self-reflection paper is personal. It shares the impact that HUM 201 has had on me, and my understanding of; what will be expected of me as a person and professional. As I understand the goals of the essay, it is to have someone consider and think about future uses of this knowledge being acquired. As part of my preparation for this paper, I looked back on the course from the beginning of the semester. I looked at my goals as a future educator in the field of ‘Human Services’, and thought about how this semester has changed my perspective (this coming from someone not unfamiliar with human services) on what it takes, to truly be effective as a leader in the field of social work as a result of this course. Through this self-reflection I’ve noticed the inter-play between my personal knowledge and what is being taught, the ‘role’ of ‘social worker’ first came to my attention at a very young, I lived in a family constantly in need of social services. The most striking realization I came away with is, the sway the psychological and sociological perspectives relate to each other (in very complex ways), more than you’d acknowledge without serious training to ferret out...

The Story of an Hour

...First & Last Name English 101/Section # Date Essay #6 Disappointment       "The Story of an Hour" is a short story in which Kate Chopin, the author, presents an often unheard of view of marriage. Mrs. Louise Mallard, Chopin's main character, experiences the exhilaration of freedom rather than the desolation of loneliness after she learns of her husband's death. Later, when Mrs. Mallard learns that her husband, Brently, still lives, she know that all hope of freedom is gone. The crushing disappointment kills Mrs. Mallard. Published in the late eighteen hundreds, the oppressive nature of marriage in "The Story of an Hour" may well be a reflection of, though not exclusive to, that era.       Though Chopin relates Mrs. Mallard's story, she does not do so in first person. Chopin reveals the story through a narrator's voice. The narrator is not simply an observer, however. The narrator knows, for example, that Mrs. Mallard, for the most part, did not love her husband (paragraph 15). It is obvious that the narrator knows more than can be physically observed. Chopin, however, never tells the reader what Mrs. Mallard is feeling. Instead, the reader must look into Mrs. Mallard's actions and words in order to understand what Mrs. Mallard feels.       Mrs. Mallard is held back in her marriage. The lines of her face "bespoke repression" (paragraph 8). When Mrs. Mallard learns of her husband's death, she knows that there will "be no powerful will bending her" (paragraph 14). There will...

Disuniting of America

...Disuniting of America: Reflections on a Multicultural Society Arthur M. Schlesinger, whose original name is Arthur Bancroft Schlesinger was born on October 17th in Columbus, Ohio, and died February 28th, 2007, in New York. He had graduated from Harvard University in 1938, and in 1940, Schlesinger was appointed a three fellowship at Harvard. This is derived from the society of fellows at Harvard University which gave Schlesinger the opportunity in the early stages of his scholarly career to pursue studies in any department, free from any formal requirement. This opportunity was only given to individuals who display exceptional ability, originality, resourcefulness, and academic achievement of the highest caliber. Unfortunately for Arthur, this opportunity was interrupted once the United States had made its entry into World War 2. When he failed his physical military examination he was appointed to the Office of War Information department, in which he served as an intelligence analyst from 1943 to 1945. In 1952 and 1956 he became a presidential speech writer to democratic presidential nominee Adlai Stevenson the second. He had also served as an assistant and Court historian to President Kennedy from 1961 to 1963. He had also supported the presidential campaign for Kennedy which had ended when he was assassinated in Los Angeles. Arthur eventually returned to his teaching career in 1996 as a professor of humanities of the City University of New York. He later retired in 1994 while...

Reflection of an Ethical Issue

...Reflection on a ethical issue in practice/ Reflection on a therapeutic relationship Gibbs reflective cycle (1988) Description No names have been used during this account in order that confidentiality is maintained as required by The Code (NMC, 2008). Gibbs reflective cycle shall be used in order to explain and analyse the incident (Gibbs, 1988). During a period of placement I was involved with the care of a client who had taken an overdose and attempted to end his life. During that day I had been involved with settling the client onto the ward and filling out his paperwork. The patient was understandably distressed and we had had to ask some quite personal questions about how he had been feeling in the days leading up to the overdose and what had triggered his actions and his current feelings. Later that evening the client absconded from the ward and the team had to call security. The client was eventually found outside of the hospital and it was discovered that he had ripped the cannula from his hand. The patient was later detained under the mental health act as it was felt he was a danger to himself. Feelings During this process I felt quite uncomfortable and like I was invading the patient’s privacy. This I believe was due to the fact that I have not had much experience of someone who has just been involved in such a highly emotional and charged situation. I found it difficult to know how to react and what to say in case it was the wrong thing as I did not want...

Patient Care

...Practice b. Discuss the rationale for developing reflective practice c. State the process and give technique examples of critical reflection What is Reflection? Colloquially, to reflect means to look back and consider something. Critical reflection is the process of analyzing, questioning, and reframing an experience in order to make an assessment of it for the purposes of learning (reflective learning) and/or to improve practice (reflective practice). Definition of Reflection “The process of internally examining and exploring an issue of concern, triggered by an experience, which results in a changed conceptual perspective” (Boyd and Fale, 1983) Rationale of using Reflective Practice as an MRT Reflection is particularly important in medicine. It helps us develop a questioning attitude and the skills needed to continually update our knowledge and skills, which is essential in today's rapidly changing global health care environment. Reflection allows for the interconnections between observations, past experiences, and judgment to come to the forefront in clinical decision-making. Reflection gives meaning to experience and promotes a deep approach to learning because it encourages us to reframe problems, question our own assumptions, and look at situations from multiple perspectives as we analyze experiences. Reflection fosters lifelong learning because it encourages us to recognize gaps in our own knowledge and attend to our own learning needs. Perhaps...

Appolonius of Perga

...Reflection Paper: Apollonius of Perga Background: Apollonius of Perga was known as 'The Great Geometer'. Little is known of his life but his works have had a very great influence on the development of mathematics, in particular his famous book Conics introduced terms which are familiar to us today such as parabola, ellipse and hyperbola. ‘The Great Geometer’ was born in Perga, Pamphylia which today is known as Murtina, and is now in Antalya, Turkey. Perga was a centre of culture at that time and it was the place of worship of Artemis, a nature goddess. When he was a young man, Apollonius went to Alexandria where he studied under the followers of Euclid and later he taught there. Reflection: In his writings on the conic sections, Apollonius deliberately alluded those who have worked on the realm of his studies through restating his view on their ideas. These have encompassed most of his early books which were elementary elaborations on Geometry. He then evaluated them in his own perspective and explored the uncharted possibilities which the early pioneers have overlooked. In his experience, one quote came to me, the one which I have pondered on earlier this year. In Apollonius’ feat he wasn’t set off to search the ambiguity of the field unarmed. He had with him the knowledge that comes from the known world as established by the avid foregoers of knowledge. He had stepped on the shoulders of giants to see the looming picture of what lies ahead. And it has done him good...
