As soon as I tell people that I am in the process of applying to Lesley University, their face immediately lights up with an encouraging smile. They then proceed to tell me an informative fact or antidote about Lesley, which only strengthens my resolve to complete my Bachelor of Science in Human Services at Lesley. A few short years ago, the idea of college was not even on my radar. Today, as I sit and reflect on my journey I feel confident in my abilities to not only be successful at Lesley, but also advance my career in the human service field.

I have always been a natural introvert who preferred to quietly observe and contemplate situations. Working with homeless families has allowed me to build a confidence that I did not realize I had in me. I have been thrust into situations where I had to think on my feet to ensure the well being of a family. I have also had opportunities where I stepped into a leadership role among my coworkers. I have learned when working with families in crisis, there is no time to sit back quietly, I must take the initiative and be an advocate for these families. I find working with others to achieve their goals rewarding. One of the highlights of my job is seeing families find housing. It is a long and stressful process, which can be challenging to the client on many levels. Being able to work with them to solve the barriers and get them back on their feet is a crucial process.
