...Prof.Dr. Yasmeen Atia English 115 July, 26, 2013 Reflective Journal # 2 Research Challenges and Benefits 1. What do you think when you read claims in a newspaper or magazine that seem to be unsubstantiated? . When I read an unsubstantiated claim in a newspaper or magazines that seem to be an unsubstantiated claim. I feel angry and sad for people who may believe these claims. I usually don’t believe it before doing a research about it. Furthermore, a lot of questions come to my mind, why the writer makes this claim without proof, or stating the source. I think that writers should not make an unsubstantiated claim about products, or any other services without backup or reliable sources. 2. How do you approach research? . I usually approach research by critical inquiry. I start by defining a challenging research questions. Next, I consider the rhetorical situation of the research such as, the audience, purpose and scope. Moreover, I begin by conducting a library and web based research. I would gather information, and evaluate a variety of reliable sources. Then, I create a research plan, and draft my paper. Overall, my approach to research is basically reading, thinking critically, gathering information, and taking notes and then evaluating them. 3. What are your biggest challenges in doing research? . My biggest challenges in doing research are research paradigms, research designs, methods, and data analysis techniques. Moreover, Finding or collecting information...

...Alissa Durkan BUS 625: Current Trends in Leadership Reflective Journal: Week 6 Give and Take by Adam Grant This portion of the book deals with overcoming the doormat effect. One study that was done measured 3,600 people for a year, tracking and coding giving behavior. After the year transpired they tracked how the salaries, speed of advancement, and promotions compared. In all three metrics, givers did worse than others. Becoming a doormat is one of the worst things that can happen to a giver. The author has suggestions in this portion of the book how givers can use the otherish approach to escape the trap of being too trusting. They do this by becoming highly flexible and adaptable in their reciprocity style. This also helps givers sidestep the issues that come with being too empathetic and too timid by repurposing some skills that come naturally to givers. Trust is one of the main reasons givers are susceptible to the doormat effect. They tend to mistakenly assume that everyone is trustworthy. People also rely on personality cues that can be misleading, especially those that are agreeable. Agreeable people tend to appear cooperative and polite, they come across as warm and welcoming. People that are disagreeable tend to be more critical and competitive, they seem to be more comfortable with conflict. We tend to stereotype agreeable people as givers and the disagreeable people as takers. Empathy is also something spread throughout givers behavior...

...My Reflective Journal Date: 15th April 2014 Time: 9.15am Setting: Training Room Subject: Reflection of My 1st Practicum. * Objective description of an experience. The practicum month was a hectic but wonderful experience for me. I settled my practicum issues in the morning while having teaching duties in the afternoon to fulfil and night classes to attend for my diploma too. On top of that, I had to prepare for my Parent Teacher Conference at the end of the month. I have piles of paperwork to prepare and clear in terms of my practicum and my portfolios for my 28 children. Three things I learnt during the practicum period is the importance of knowing how to handle stress,, the true meaning of the words, passion and patience, and the pressure of being an early childhood educator. * Reflections of my experience: * The importance of knowing how to handle stress. I was stressed out during this period as I felt that I didn’t have enough time, energy and hands to complete so many things at the same time. I was on the verge of breaking down at certain time during that period. Luckily for me, I had supportive family, friends and workmates. They helped me as much as they can and also gave me motivation and encouragement to push on no matter how demoralised or tired I feel. To complicated things, one of my family members was hospitalised during this period due to a viral infection. I had to rush to hospital every night if I dun have any night class. I was so tired that I could...

A team will become success when the members’ characteristics are balance. This test will give us a clear understanding of ourselves. However, the test is not easy; the questions are difficult to understand. Most of us were trying to get a brief explanation through asking from the lecturer. We took about 30 minutes to finish the test and are excited for the results. We had been categorized into different group of role based on the results of us. We are surprised that we can’t find the role of shaper from a sample of ….. students. Then, we tried to match up the characteristics of each role in response to the introduction and explanation of role from lecturer. This gets us to know that why each role become important and how the roles will be worked in a team. ...After attending the Mindfulness course from 22th January 2014, I had new and different feelings compared with the feelings about mindfulness before I attend the course. During those practices, I got some reflections from them. Mindful eating is the practice that help me to discover my habits and notice about the food I eat. When I had the first mouth of one meal, I ate more slowly and I could feel fuller. I started to chew it slowly which is different from my previous eating habit that eat food quickly and take other one at once. However, I can still feel hungry when I doesn’t practice mindful eating. I think the reason behind is that I just chew so fast and then swallow them quickly. I started to know that I consider what I am doing when I am eating but not just rush to put the food into my mouth and eat all the food on the plate. Knowing what I am eating and doing can help me to eat in a proper size of food and prevent I feel too full. Although I didn’t weight my body weight, I believe it can prevent overeating and thus may help weight loss. Since it can let me know and notice how much, how quickly I usually eat and whether I am full or not. From an unpublished study, it discovered that people that in mindful eating course lost weight an average of around 10 pounds over a year which more than those used weight loss drugs. Moreover, there was a greater reductions in cardiovascular risk factors in people that have mindful eating. (Hobson, 2009) Besides, it let me enjoy...

...My Reflection Essay Can someone please help me edit my reflection essay? Thank You Very Very Much! This reflection essay is based on my presentation on July 9th. Four day ago, on Thursday 9th July, 2009 my partner Rachna and I gave a seminar at St. Josephs Secondary School and I wanted to take a minute to reflect my experience. My seminar topic was about examining the imagery that appeared in the play Hamlet. A skill I developed was using technological equipment to present a presentation. Each group had to pick a topic that was in their interest to research online for information. The requirements started with presenting the information in front of the class informing the audience what imagery means and discuss using concrete examples from the play. This presentation gave me the opportunity to work with PowerPoint and Excel and then to present my information. I believe that in order to communicate effectively with the audience you have to have a well prepared presentation that will capture their attention so that you can present your ideas clearly. A skill that I had trouble was to be able to work as a team. The imagery seminar was a great opportunity for me to develop my team work skills because we were put in to pairs to complete the seminar. Each member in the group had specific responsibilities to the team in order for the seminar to be successful. Being in the group to work on the seminar was a great experience for me because I was able to see where my strong...

...Here comes to the end of my internship. I found these three months were tough yet remarkable and valuable. Firstly, for the overall feedback on the hotel, I found that all employees in InterContinental Hong Kong are attached to their own departments. All the employees no matter back officers or the one who serves and meets guest everyday will actually bring hotel the most benefits in terms of revenue and reputation. They have the equivalent aim of maintaining the hotel as the top five-star hotel in the world. In another point, although working in the hospitality industry is quite tough and hard, people in InterContinental Hong Kong always feel passionate about their job and always come with the warmest smile to both colleagues and guest. As I observed, the peer influence play an important role among employees. Take my department as an example; all the colleagues will act like family and friends to finish their work as soon as possible. They will also ease each other’s tension during busy slot. According to my observation, the management style in ichk is participative style. The participative style allows input of ideas from everybody. However, the aim and standard are still clear. It will be very effective when a group of employees are working together and the colleagues involved have enough experience. Moreover, the working environment is also essential that it can more or less encourage the colleagues to voice out opinions in different point of views. During the trainees’...

...A MANUAL OF STYLE FOR PAPERS OR THESIS INTRODUCTION Jollibee #ChickenSad Last week, a system migration caused problems in inventory deliveries to Jollibee stores, and even outright shutdown of 72 stores. According to this article, Jollibee suffered a sales loss of 6% for at least the first seven days of August. Calculating using Jollibee's 2013 revenue, this loss amounts to at least a whopping Php 92 million! And considering that the project reportedly already costs Php 500 million, this whole debacle looks like it will cost Jollibee Php 600 million, not including the cost of all the man-days that Jollibee's management and staff are probably devoting to fixing this problem. I asked some of my friends in the industry (who shall not be named) on their take on what happened. Below is the information I got so far, and I'll update this post as I get more information. I've also reached out to some friends in Jollibee hoping to get some inside information. Please note that none of these are from official statements. If anyone wants to provide me with more accurate information on this, or better yet, official statements from the parties concerned, please send me a message and I will gladly incorporate it into the article. My objective here is to provide lessons to the IT and business community so that we can hopefully avoid the all-too-often costly mistakes of IT projects in the future. The Issues 1. Rip and Replace Jollibee had originally been using an Oracle product...
