...As a psychologist and psychotherapist who has been involved in mindfulness education since the late ’60′s (when it was called meditation), and integrative medicine before it had a name, this explosion of interest in expanding awareness and increasing attention – improving the powers of the mind – thrills me. I’m all for anything that increases compassionate awareness and improves attention: for my clients, my patients, our children, and certainly myself. The idea of “more, better” is as American as it gets, and I’m all for more and better when it comes to the mind. But I’ve got some reservations about the how of all this. The selling of mindfulness seems somehow antithetical to the very acceptance mindfulness cultivation strives for. And it may seem a strange thing for a psychologist whose focus is on problem solving to say, but life is not simply a problem to be solved. Hegel supposed that all art is a reflection of the time in which it is created; the same is no doubt true of the psychological arts. Ours is a time when excellence is valued. Not necessarily the pursuit of excellence, however. We like our accomplishments big and easy and fast. And the improvement of mental functioning, while often shockingly quick when we begin proper training, is indeed a lifelong practice. In it for the long haul, not simply for today’s trend. Training takes practice. So why bother? When we correlate attention solely with achievement, we limit what the mind can do even...

...containing an RFID tag is picked up at a grocery store. The expiration date can be automatically sent to your cell phone. Instead of standing in line to check out, you can just walk past a tag reader. This can calculate the total of your purchase and send the bill directly to your bank. In addition, the manufacturer of the product can be notified to ship more products to the store, and the store can be notified of the empty space on its shelf. Once home, and you put your milk into your “smart refrigerator”. This can track your usage, and when you empty the container, you can have messages sent to remind you to buy more milk, or your fridge can order it for you. Based on your shopping habits, store can then provide user specific advertisements (Bonsor & Fenlon, 2013, pg.5). To me this seems silly. Or maybe I am just old fashioned. But I like to write my grocery list myself, and the information about things I buy can be found on my club card for that store. I certainly do not need my refrigerator to tell me when I...

...going. The signage was also very hazy. Dining area was also bad. Upon entrance of the restaurant, I noticed that the garbage was overflowing. The floor of the established was dirty. The area where their “condiments” are stores was disgustingly un-kept. It was a four-tray temperature storage unit. It contained vegetables, green and red salsa and some more. Contents from each tray were cross contaminating the other trays because in order to get the desired condiment you have to reach under an awkward sneeze guard. Kitchen staff and area. I walked to the register to make my order and where the men using the cash register with his bare hands took my card and swiped it through the machine. Immediately after that, he went to the refrigerator and with his shiny hands began to stretch and pull out something. Many things here made me quite nauseous. The fact that he had...

...3Chapter 3 Research Methodology This chapter presents the research methodology which includes the research design, methods and procedures used in conducting the study. It also includes the subject respondents, research instrument, research environment or locale of the study and analysis of the data gathered. Research Design Descriptive research is used in the study and defined as a description, recording, analysis and interpretation of the presented data. This type of research is the most commonly used and the basic reason for carrying out descriptive research is to identify the cause of something that is happening (DJS Research Ltd, 2010). Descriptive research can be either quantitative or qualitative. It can involve collections of quantitative information that can be tabulated along a continuum in numerical form, such as scores on a test or the number of times a person chooses to use a-certain feature of a multimedia program, or it can describe categories of information such as gender or patterns of interaction when using technology in a group situation. Descriptive research involves gathering data that describe events and then organizes, tabulates, depicts, and describes the data collection (Glass & Hopkins, 1984). The process of descriptive research goes beyond mere gathering and tabulation of the information and data. It involves interpretation of the significance of what is described. Descriptive research may also be defines as a process of gathering, analyzing...

...Statement of Problems These study intents to find out how aware are the SEA students regarding cybercrimes. It also aimed to answer the following questions: 1. What is the profile of each respondent regarding their awareness? 2. What influences them to such an act of crime? 3. How can they be protected from any forms of cybercrimes? 4. How can these cybercrimes be prevented? Significance of Study The researchers believes that students, particularly in the School of Engineering and Architecture will be benefited from the findings of this study since the study provides basis for awareness and better understanding regarding cybercrimes. Likewise, gives them a focused and clear perspective that such acts of crimes if they get involved have penalties and punishment s according to Republic Act 10175, an act defining cybercrime, providing for the prevention, investigation, suppression and the imposition of penalties therefore and for other purposes. Furthermore, this study helps them refrain from doing such crimes and hopefully they would not do it again if they have done it before. Lastly, we help them how to be protected from cybercrimes so that they would not be a victim of such crime. Scope and Limitations The scopes of this research are the education of students here in University of Baguio for all year levels. The limitations of this research are only those students who are currently enrolled in the University of Baguio at the School of Engineering and Architecture for...

...Introduction Surveys and experiments can prove to be an extremely valuable tool that organizations can use to gain pertinent information. In order to effectively utilize these tools firms must pay careful attention to the design, methodology, and ethical issues of the experiment chosen. Among these issues are variables in conducting experiments with human subjects, design elements affecting the accuracy of the experiment, and questions of methodology. The information below addresses each of these concerns and describes how experiments can become a valuable tool for organizations to plan for the future. Question 9.4 – Ethical Problems in Conducting Experiments with Human Subjects After choosing the experimental design, the researcher must then select and assign participants for the study. According to Cooper and Schindler (2014), participants selected for an experiment should be members of the population in which the researcher wishes to make interpretations about. When choosing to conduct experiments with humans as the main subjects, researchers should be aware of various ethical concerns that may arise. When ethical problems are debated in the research design process, most people often think first about defending the rights of the participant. Whether observations are taken from an interview, survey, or an experiment, the participant has many rights that need to be protected during the research process. As discussed in the text, research must be designed in a way...

...Data Gathering Procedure The data for this research were collected using a survey questionnaire. The survey was created using suitable questions modified from related research and individual questions formed by the researcher. The survey was comprised of 20 to 25 questions, which were related to the participant’s perception regarding for the reject products of corrugated box in well pack. In the questionnaire, Likert scale was used to determine if the respondent agreed or disagreed in a statement. After the professor validated the questionnaire, these were distributed to the 4th year Industrial Engineering students of Quezon City Polytechnic University . The researchers assured confidentiality of their survey sheets since the identities are not important. The researchers also understood that people’s consciousness may also affect their honesty and effectiveness in answering the survey, and so, the researchers gave people the option of being anonymous. Participants were given time to respond and then the researchers collected the surveys the next day. There were no incentives offered for participating in the research. Next, the researchers planned the questions that they would be asking to the interview. The researchers interviewed certain number of workers in the company regarding to the reject products. Statistical Treatment of Data In getting the sample size, the group used the Solving formula which is, n= , N stands for the whole population of the workers who where work...

...Giauque (1927) proposed cooling via adiabatic demagnetization. A few years later in 1933, Giauque and MacDougall demonstrated the process for cryogenic purposes and managed to achieve a temperature of 0.25K (Cryogenic meaning the study of the production of very low temperatures and behavior of materials at those temperatures). Advances occurred through the years up to 1997, until the first near room temperature proof of magnetic refrigerator concept was demonstrated by Professor Karl A. Gschneidner, Jr. from Iowa State University. This discovery drew attention and interests from scientists and companies worldwide. Since then new kinds of room temperature materials and magnetic refrigerator designs have developed. In this modern era, reliable cooling technology is highly demanding. Refrigeration plays an important role in the societies’ health as well as the global economy. The modern refrigeration is based on a compression/ expansion refrigeration cycle, as they are quite reliable and relatively low cost technology. Over the years, such conventional refrigerator were considerably improved due to...

...Summary Houghton Refrigeration Company is a company that builds refrigerators for large appliance companies. During the summer, the company needs to hire around forty new employees which are typically college students from a local private college. They receive little training prior to starting working. All they are taught is the basics of how to do their job, not how to handle difficulties that arise. More and more employees start to get injured, and the president of the company decides the company needs safety training. The first-line supervisor gave a brief training that wasn’t very beneficial to the employees. Step 1: Identify the Problem The problem in this case is that Houghton Refrigeration Company is having complications maintaining a safe and healthy work environment for their employees, and now some of their workers are becoming injured. Step 2: Identify Causes of the Problem There are several reasons this problem could be occurring. One reason is that the upper management are educated in engineering, not management, which is the cause of the second reason for this problem. The second reason the employees are being injured is because they lack proper training. The college students are also feeling pressured by one of the first- line supervisors who is harassing them. Step 3: Alternative Solutions * The company can hire an outside source to develop a training program for the employees. * They can hold one-on-one training with each of the new employees...
