Regional Cadet Leadership Experience

Through my experience at the Northeast Region Regional Cadet Leadership School, I hope to gain knowledge in leadership theory, teamwork and the overall cadet program. This being my first official day of RCLS, I am excited to learn, grow and have fun. First, I am excited to learn more about leadership. From effective communication (whether it is written or oral), to resolving issues, to organization and management, to the principles of “leading by example” and “servant leadership” — I hope to build the skills I do not have and sharpen the skills that I do. It’s a well known fact that “iron sharpens” iron and, by working around so many other talented cadet officers and senior noncommissioned officers, I hope to learn from the ideologies presented

Personal Statement

...always keen to see the business angle in whatever I do. My Extended Project is entitled: ‘The Recession and its effect on businesses in the UK’, and I am working to understand both the causes and effects of the recent recession. Whilst on work experience at Jaguar Land Rover, I got a feel for the manufacturing industry and observed mass production and workforce planning in action. Here I was able to see methods of production and workforce planning in action. I was also able to gain a greater understanding of transport, which is an area I am interested in. I have also been on work experience in the legal sector at Andrew Jackson & Co. Solicitors. This experience honed my administrative and organisational skills, areas which I strive to improve continuously. Studying Business Studies has increased my knowledge and understanding in a variety of areas. I have been able to improve my numerical and analytical skills; which gave me the opportunity to compete in the regional ICAEW BASE Business Competition. This competition involved reviewing a business and then presenting our findings to a panel of judges. Our team came 3rd in the whole process. It was nerve racking to begin with, but once it was over it was actually a very fulfilling experience. Studying Geography has meant that I have been able to digest qualitative and...

John Radcliffe Children's Hospital: A Personal Statement

...The more I learn about the human body and its intricacies, the more I am fascinated by how it responds to illness and injury and how doctors can transform a patient's life. During my work experience at John Radcliffe Children’s Hospital, I spent time with medical students, junior doctors and consultants in different specialities, which gave me an overview of the healthcare system. In a multidisciplinary meeting for a child with complex regional pain syndrome, I recognised the importance of effective communication. With the expertise of different disciplines, a better understanding was gained of the patient's individual case and the treatment options available. I noticed that the style of communication is important to engage young children, which I applied while volunteering at Lighthouse Children's Camp. My learning proved effective as the children talked to me in confidence about their feelings regarding starting secondary school and I offered them reassurance and advice. Working as a healthcare assistant and phlebotomist at Crosby House Surgery has been an enjoyable challenge to engage with patients of varying ages and backgrounds. Helping out with different aspects of primary care has given me a broader...

History Korea

...PART 1: INTRODUCTION The Korean peninsula is located at the eastern end of Asia, between China, Siberia (now part of the Russian Federation), and the islands of Japan. Because of the complex, shifting, and historic relations between these areas, as well as relations with other places such at the United Sates in more recent times, the history of Korea has been told in many ways and is still the subject of hot debate both inside and outside the Koreas. North and South Korea have different versions of the peninsula’s history, both of which differ in detail and perspective from histories written in China, Japan, Russia, and the USA. The following sections, which attempt to outline the history in a balanced way, are based on a variety of materials, including lectures attended in a special workshop on Korean culture at Korea University in the summer of 1997. Map of Korea The overall pattern of development in the history of the Korean peninsula is a process that begins with an unknown number of early tribal groups that populate the peninsula in prehistoric times, wandering out of Siberia and areas to the west. Over time, some of these groups form more complex societies that eventually result in early kingdoms that grow up on the peninsula; in some cases extending westwards into what is now Chinese territory. As time and events unfolded, these kingdoms were unified, though the borders and degree of unity have continued to change over time—down to today. Besides the obvious split between...

...Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance, to provide Services, Support and Technical Assistance to Smaller Police Departments. The project Advisory Group, comprised of chiefs from smaller police departments around the country, identified Recruitment and Retention of Qualified Police Personnel as one of the most challenging issues facing smaller police departments. This document contains suggested best practices provided by our authors and by the many chiefs form smaller departments who have attended our symposiums. Introduction One of the greatest challenges facing law enforcement organizations today is the successful recruitment and retention of highly qualified employees. Community safety can be compromised when substantial experience and training is lost through staff turnover and vacancy. It is imperative then, to recruit, select and retain the kind of personnel who will bring to the department and to the community a strong commitment to and talent for the job. Over 12,000 of the 17,173 IACP members represent communities of less than 25,000 which are served by less than 25 sworn...
