...influenced by specific local factors, such as climate and soil. Under the TRIPS Agreement, countries are under no obligation to extend protection to a particular geographical indication unless that geographical indication is protected in the country of its origin. Prior to 2003, India did not protect geographical indications of Indian origin. In order to comply with India's obligations in the TRIPS Agreement, it enacted the Geographical Indications of Goods (Registration & Protection) Act, 1999, which came into force with effect from 15th September 2003. The present geographical indications regime in India is governed by the Geographical Indications of Goods (Registration & Protection) Act, 1999 and the Geographical Indication of Goods (Regulation and Protection) Rules, 2002. By registering a geographical indication in India, the rights holder can prevent unauthorized use of the registered geographical indication by others and promote economic prosperity of producers of goods produced in a particular region. ...Registries are a category that use more detailed secondary data from patients’ medical records. Registries are usually clarified by health statuses of patients, diseases, conditions, or procedures. Registries inform healthcare professionals of availability and responses of patients on different methods of treatments. The information helps healthcare professionals in choosing the best treatment options to improve patients’ conditions. For example, cancer registries were developed with the need to collect information in studying the diseases to improve diagnoses and treatments of cancers. Hospital-based registries and population-based registries are two major types of registries for cancers. Hospital-based registries are developed for administrative information and clinical researches with the purposes of improving patients’ care. The populations-based registries have the goals of cancers prevention and finding the methods for early detection of cancers. They are also used for finding the rates and trends of different types of cancers as well as the results of health outcomes of divergent treatment methods. Population-based registries mainly use for researches in controlling of cancers (Oach, 2016, pp. 174-175). The Uniform Hospital Discharge Data Set (UHDDS), issued by the Department of Health and Human Services, is used to report standardized short-term inpatient care data to Medicare, Medicaid, and some commercial insurances for reimbursement reasons. ...“One of the aims of the registration is to make title more secure and easily provable. It is supposed to set up a mirror of ownership. The mirror principle – or rather, aspiration – is hostile to interests that do not appear on the registered title. Like many systems registration has it’s own momentum; it tends towards tidiness and completeness and to the elimination, as far as possible, and of interests that a purchaser cannot discover from the register ”. Discuss and consider the extent to which the Land Registration Act 2002 meets the principles referred to in to in the quotation, including in your answer discussion of the extent to which pre-registration concepts such as notice might continue to persist in relation to difficult cases. In the following essay I shall discuss the above quotation. The Land Registration Act 2002 [1] came into force on the 13th October 2003. The Act completely repeals its predecessor the Land Registration Act 1925 [2], and presents a complete volte-face of how to organise the system of registered land in the UK. The LRA 2002 promotes a system of title by registration. The aims of the Act as set out in the Law Commission Report Number 271 are to create a register that is an accurate reflection of the true state of title to a registered estate of land at any time. The Act also aims to implement Electronic - Conveyancing, and to allow the state of title to be investigated with the minimum of additional enquiries and inspection [3]...

...Total Quality Management Concepts, Evolution and Acceptability in Developing Economies R.R. Lakhe Shri Ramdeobaba Kamla Nehru Engineering College, Nagpur, India, and Total Quality Management 9 Received March 1993 Revised October 1993 R.P. Mohanty National Institute of Industrial Engineering, Bombay, India Introduction In recent years, Total Quality Management (TQM) has received worldwide attention and is being adopted in many industries, particularly in developed economies. TQM has evolved primarily because of the changes in the global economy and also because of demand in market forces. Although control of quality has been practised in many industries for several years, the adoption of TQM as a major preoccupation of businesses worldwide is very recent. The traditional control methods being implemented in industries to ensure quality have not yielded the results that were expected of them. Furthermore, rapidly changing technology and customer expectations have already affected organizations worldwide and thus have promoted the need for taking a new look at quality management. In this study we intend to discuss how TQM can be adopted in organizations that are replacing existing quality control systems to promote competition and growth. Various pioneering researchers have made significant contributions towards the design, development and application of the TQM system. This article takes a synoptic view of the existing state-of-the-art and makes...

...Ronelle Professor Benas English 85 September 23, 2014 Registration Frustration On July 13, I decided to return to Merced College after not attending school for some time. Going back to school was a big decision that I thought about for the last two semesters. I always seem to have a lot going on and it was just something that crossed through my mind from time to time. I never imagined I could find a way to make it happen until the day I decided that I needed to go back to college. Upon enrolling in school, I have experienced college-related stress while registering, financing my education, and enrolling in classes. In the summer of 2014, I was looking at the college website attempting to figure out the process for registering at Merced College. While looking at the website, I could not find the assessment testing schedule. I knew previously I had seen the schedule online, but I couldn’t find it this time. It was a mistake to assume that the college was not offering assessment testing during the summer. A professor from Merced College checked into the motel where I work. She stated she needed time away from home to grade papers. I started to talk to her and mentioned to her I wanted to attend college, but I could not find the assessment dates. She advised me to start the registration process then go to the college and I could find out the dates from there. She then encouraged me by saying I was making an excellent decision to return to school and wished me...

...provide voter registration forms to residents seeking public assistance, like food stamps and Medicaid. The suit claims Georgia has been engaging in statewide noncompliance with the National Voter Registration Act of 1993 (NVRA) Section 7. It contends the state has deprived thousands of low-income Georgia citizens the opportunity to vote. In 2007-2008, Georgia public assistance offices received 21,762 voter registration applications a 79 percent drop since 1995-96 (Fleishman, 2004). Section 7 of the NVRA requires that all public assistance offices, in states subject to the NVRA, distribute a voter registration application with each application for public assistance, and each recertification, renewal, or change of address relating to an individual’s receipt of public assistance. It further mandates that all public assistance offices in a covered state assist clients in completing a voter registration application (unless a client declines such assistance), provide a form that asks clients whether they wish to register to vote and includes certain specified information concerning the voter registration process, and accept completed voter registration forms for delivery to the appropriate elections authority. Defendant Brian Kemp, Georgia Secretary of State and “chief elections official,” is responsible for ensuring Georgia’s compliance with the NVRA, including Section 7, and did not fulfilled his responsibilities for ensuring that Georgia provides the voter registration services...

...Tania Hutchins Civics and Economics Honors Leah Tonissen March 10, 2015 Increasing the Current Approval Rating For Congress In today’s society, our approval ratings for Congress are extremely low. According to Congressional Performance, Congress’ current approval rating started off as 16% in the year of 2015, and it is now at 18%. Although this is an increase, many of today’s Americans are not satisfied with congress and their ideas, how they handle the different situations we are in, or how they run our country. The amount of dissatisfaction with the government stems from the fact that there are officials in congress who are appointed versus being elected, public opinion is not being surveyed enough, and also, voter turnout also has depreciated significantly due to these things. According to You Can’t Vote Everyone in Congress Out. So, What Can You Do, 60 percent of those polled would “replace almost every member in the house, including from their own state,” in the next election if they could. This is due to the fact that many of the officials in the government are appointed, and those that aren’t appointed, vote and select other officials or judges into high positions that have to do with citizen’s daily lives. This does not demonstrate accurate representation of the people because although the people appointed into congress are usually appointed by an official the people voted for, it is not a direct relationship which lessens the amount of approval...

...their time, paid their fines, and stood in voter registration lines only to be denied. These American citizens, who are also felons, are being denied the right to vote due to disenfranchisement laws. In the United States, “Two states, Vermont and Maine, allow convicted felons to vote while in prison. Nine states permanently restrict certain felons from voting (until and if granted the state governor's pardon) even if those people have served their prison sentence, parole, probation, and paid all fines. The remaining 36 states fall somewhere in between,” (ProCon.org, 2009). Felons should have the right to vote, as they have paid or are paying their debt to society, and the millions of missing felony votes impact all of us. How many times have you voted in a close race and your candidate did not win? Imagine if just a fraction of the felons that share your views were allowed to vote just like they are allowed to pay taxes. Millions of Americans in our republic are not represented at every election due to non-felony voting, which can be said to be undemocratic, and as such, felons should be allowed to vote in all states. “The legislature has sent a clear message that voting is a fundamental right that should not be stripped away from people who are working, paying taxes and contributing to their communities, “said Steven Brown, Executive Director of the ACLU of Rhode Island. According to the National Voter Registration Act of 1993, the right of citizens of the United...

...It’s Election Day! (Does Anyone Really Care?) John F. Kennedy once said that “The ignorance of one voter in a democracy impairs the security of all.” When I ran across this quote I realized that today is Election Day in Massachusetts and many local voters were heading to the polls to select new leadership. Now it’s a known fact that local voter turnout is never very high. We see more middle-aged citizens and the elderly turning out for these elections which, based on the information presented in our discussion question, is about 20-30% of registered voters. But how does this tie-in to the quote. I am in agreement that a low voter turn-out is not necessarily a bad thing. These voters usually represent those voters who are knowledgeable about the issues at hand and want to see the best person for the job get elected. But does this continuous process yield a better outcome as a whole. The populace needs to be educated about the issues and understand what they are voting for. If people tend to vote on blind faith or, worse, emotion, it is an ignorant and potentially costly move for us all. In order for communities as a whole to bind together and elect the right people for the job, they must take the time and energy to get involved and to become educated on the important issues that are affecting them and their families. The question was asked in our discussion as to what kind of a program we could devise to not only increase voter turn-out but to educate the...
