Berlin, Germany’s capital city is one of the most beautiful and fascinating places to visit. It is well known for its nightlife, art scene, and the modern architecture there. All the amazing architecture and historical places, in Berlin, make for great tourist spots that are just a must see if you ever visit. Some of the more famous sights and buildings are the Reichstag, the Brandenburg gate, and the Gendarmenmarkt.
If ever in Berlin for any reason, whether is be a fun vacation or a business trip, the Reichstag is a must see. The Reichstag is one of the most amazing and famous landmarks there. It’s the seat of the German parliament and was first opened in 1894. When the Reichstag was first built it towered over the City Castle at one hundred and fifty-four feet tall. In February of 1933, the Reichstag caught fire, both the chamber and the dome were completely destroyed. After the fire that destroyed the Reichstag it took twenty-eight years to rebuild it even though it was in a much simpler form than the original and lacked a dome on top. It is made of sandstone and modeled after the Propylaeum of Athens’ Acropolis. The gate is one of the most important attractions in Berlin because of all that it symbolises. The Brandenburg gate symbolises over two-hundred years of prosperity, turmoil, and peace in Germany. During the time the Berlin wall was up the gate represented the separation of Berlin between the east and the west. Since the wall came down the gate has come to represent German unity. It is a key entry point into Berlin and the only remaining city gate, though since 2002 it has been closed to all traffic.
