In the Reign of Terror thousands of people were killed and arrested. The French people tried to kill the enemies within the country. Also France won a war. The Reign of Terror was somewhat justified because some good things came out of it, many people were killed, and the guillotine.
The Reign of Terror was somewhat justified because some good things came out of it. An example is, since the French were killing enemies within their own country they were gaining victories outside their country like in the war against Austria and Prussia (Document B). Also in document E they mention that the Committee of Public Safety was established with the purpose to protect the citizens from the enemies within and outside of France (Document E). Such as in document E it states that, it is estimated that over 35,000 to 40,000 people were killed during the Reign of Terror(Document E). Also in document E any careless word of criticism against the government could put you in jail or get you killed(document E). Again, it is mentioned that many people died because in total 500,000 were arrested, 17,000 people were officially executed, 25,000 people were executed without a trial, and 40,000 people died all together. This was another reason why the Reign of Terror was somewhat justified.
