...World View Chart Writing Assignment Strayer Student Professor: Someone REL 212: World Religions Strayer University Monday, June 13, 2016 World View Chart Writing Assignment In our World Religions course, we studied eight different aspects of ten different religions known throughout the world. While there are many more religions, and more characteristics to all of these religions, the information had to be trimmed down to ten eleven weeks of study. I will attempt to focus on one facet of these eight characteristics used to analyze the ten religions studied in this course. I will also explain the significance, and give an example of how this category is manifested in my social environment. Ten Religions, Eight Facets Out of the multitude of religions practiced around the world, our course (REL 212) offered studies in ten religions: 1. Hinduism 2. Jainism 3. Buddhism 4. Daoism 5. Confucianism 6. Shinto 7. Judaism 8. Christianity 9. Islam 10. Sikhism We analyzed these ten religions using eight characteristics: 1. Cosmogony (Origin of the Universe) 2. Nature of God 3. View of Human Nature 4. View of Good and Evil 5. View of “Salvation” 6. View of an Afterlife 7. Practices and Rituals 8. Celebrations and Festivals From these eight facets of religions, I chose the View of Good and Evil. The reason is because people’s view of good and evil helps steer an individual’s actions toward other people and the surrounding environment....

...Assignment1: Report on Religious Life of Plant Earth Student’s Rickey Burt Professor Angela Roberson Strayer University REL 212 World Religions January 28, 2013 Master the world religions of planet earth is very interesting, there are fifteen majors religions. Christianity, Islam and Hinduism are the top religions that represent Earth’s population. These religions represent over 70% of planet earth’s religious beliefs. There definition of religion is the belief in and worship of a superhuman controlling power, esp. a personal God or Gods. At the very least, for a person to be religious, they need not only believe in such a deity, but participate in some sort of traditional activity such as prayer, communication, attending rituals. Also a religious person will usually grant undue authority to their tradition and/or holy book named the bible. They also seem to have this interesting word called Faith, which is something you have to have in your God and believe that he can do all kind of like a Genii. Now master there is a difference between the religions they all have different beliefs in a God. Christianity is a religion based on the person and teaching of Jesus of Nazareth, or its beliefs and practices. Islam is the religion of the Muslims, a monotheistic faith regarded as revealed through Muhammad as the Prophet of Allah. Hinduism is a religions and cultural tradition of the Indian subcontinent, comprising of a diverse family of devotional and ascetic cults. References ...

...UNITED METHODIST CHURCH United Methodist Church Marie Wyatt Strayer University Rel 212 Rev. Donna DeVoe Baker 12-10-2012 Getting to know about a religion and getting misconceptions of what you thought about a religion can be very interesting. It is hard to believe that someone can go to a church the majority of their lives and come to find out some of the things they were taught is not all true. Sometimes this misinformation comes from parents, which could be that they were misled as they grew up. To truly know about one’s religion, is to study and research as far back as possible of that religion. In 1968 when the Evangelical United Brethren and the Methodist church united, it created The United Methodist Church. Jacob Albright of Eastern Pennsylvania was a lay preacher who gathered followers in the early 1800s. These “Albright people” formed the Evangelical Association, later to become the Evangelical Church. The Rev. Philip Otterbein, ordained by the German Reformed Church, started the United Brethren Movement in the late 1700s. The Methodist movement began in England in the early 1700s, under Anglican Clergyman John Wesley and his followers. Wesley did not officially organize a new church but sparked a renewal movement within the Church of England. Nonetheless, Methodism spread from England to Ireland and the colonial United States. With such growth, philosophical differences and division were inevitable. In 1830, a group, largely moved by...

...Week 5: Assignment 1 Religious Life on Planet Earth Anna Papp Prepared for Professor Laila Ghauri REL 212, Strayer University July 30, 2012 As an alien who has landed on planet Earth, I would have to base the criteria on what my location is. The first thing is to observe the area that I am in as it may be different than other parts of the world. To some, religion consists of explanations of existence (or ultimate meaning) based on supernatural assumptions and including statements about the nature of the supernatural, which may specify methods or procedures for exchanging with the supernatural. In using the term supernatural, this is explained as somewhat mysterious forces or entities that are above, beyond, or outside nature and which can control, suspend, alter, or ignore the natural order (Stark, 2007, p. 46). There are many definitions available for religion so I felt it important to use one that can be applied to all religions, as there are religions that could be viewed as having no god/gods at all. Most religions seem to follow a particular pattern: it is an experience of what is considered Unseen Reality; involves the person’s whole being; it is the most shattering and intense of all human experiences; and motivates the person to action, through worship, ethical behavior, service, and sharing with others in a religious grouping (Fisher, 2011, p. 10). The criteria that I will use to determine if Earth is a religious planet will be based on what the followers...

...Comparison of Two Religions Hinduism & Buddhism By: Darilyn M. Parks Week 4 Assignment 1 Strayer University Chamblee Campus REL 212 Professor Dr. Bell Belew 02/02/2014 Page 1 Introduction Comparison of Two Religions Religions can overall be very dynamic in their effects, where they can really bring about many changes in individuals as well as societies. The religions Buddhism and Hinduism had existed for thousands of years. Religion has always been the very basic foundation of life, as well as an object that could be studied. Religion can often become tools of great oppression; they are found in many places because are useful. Overall religion has actually held society together, where we use religion in helping us to have an organized structure. We as humans have a way in having the need for a stable frame of reference (Erich Fromm (1900-1980). We all know that religion has a way of transforming people and can just as well help us in understanding life. Religions are considered to have political powers, and in this paper I will speak more of the comparison of Buddhism and Hinduism religions. Hinduism Hinduism is not easily separated from many of the other religions that were created back in India. The scriptures called the “ Vedas “ are considered as being the foundations of Hinduism. Both Hinduism and Buddhism has a devotion that takes the forms of rituals and other different practices...

...Hindu Religion Travis R. Lewis II REL 212/ Assignment 2 3/11/2013 Strayer University Originally I had honestly no knowledge of the Hindu religion. Hinduism is one the religion that was not something that was in my presence; it seemed to resemble the Buddhism religion. The reason I thought they were connected together was because of their vivid colored attire, their physical similarities, and from the media portrayals. I did not hold many misconception of the religion because I assumed that it still had the same base as all religions. Most religion seem to base in some type of social obedience, a belief in a higher power, and says that they are seeking a eternal or world peace of some kind. As we all know the service and worship of God or the supernatural, commitment or devotion to religious faith or observance. The Hindu When I visited their temple it was a very unique experience, from the outside view their scenery was amazing. Upon entry through the gates the first sight will be the beautiful reflecting pool, next to a columned path that leads to the temple. The view of the outside alone gives a holy experience. The overly detailed engravings on walls on the outside of the building could keep onlookers captivated for hours. Once inside there is a very humble area where people place their belongings that leads to the marble floored alter room. This is the room that held most of the alters to their gods. In my opinion this was the best sight in the temple. They treat...

...World View Chart Writing Assignment Tranel Hill-Barrett Strayer University Rel 212: World Religions Prepared for: Dr. Darryl Claybon September 7, 2014 I would first like to start off by saying that this class has opened my eyes to a lot as far as different religions are concerns, I love learning of the history and origin of the varies religions. For my final paper, I have decided to focus on the category of "view of the afterlife". The reason I selected this category is due to the fact that they are all almost closely related. We are all here to live our lives, although we may worship different Gods, or practice different religions, I feel as though we all have the same questions at the end of the day. What will happen to me once I past? What will happen to my earthly body? After several weeks of reaches I expanded my knowledge of such world religions. Within my finding, I discovered that almost all the religions believe in some form or heaven and hell or that the soul of a person continues to live in some shape or form. For example within Hinduism and Jainism, moksha, is the ultimate salvation. The individual is absorbed into the ocean. To me this is kind of a form of being cremated and released into the ocean. I know that I have heard of some people wanting this to be done to them so that they may be one with the earth. Next we have Buddhism within this religion the view on the afterlife is that one is reincarnated to a different body. I...
