Firstly it is important to know what is meant by organizational development. It is a planned process of developing an organization to be more effective in accomplishing its desired goals. Organisational development can also be defined as a theory and practice of planned, systematic change in the attitudes, beliefs, and values of the employees through creation and reinforcement of long-term training programs. Organisational development is action oriented. ...Jamie Velez Elizabeth Hughes Paul Way EDUC 268 Remember the Titans - Five Step Analysis Plot Summary In April of 1971, the United States Supreme Court issued a ruling that ended all stateimposed segregation in public schools. This was the same year that T. C. Williams High School located in Alexander Virginia was integrated. This is the setting for the movie Remember the Titans, staring Denzel Washington who portrays Herman Boone the head coach of the Titans. Herman Boone is brought in as an assistant coach to join the all white coaching staff. When Herman Boone is appointed head coach over a wining white coach he is reluctant to accept because the same things had happened to him when a white coach had been appointed over him in South Carolina. He finally accepts the head coach position when he sees that the black residents see him as a symbol of pride and respect that is lacking in their community. The movie starts with a riot after a white storeowner kills a black teenager. This incident underscores the racial tensions that exist as a result of the desegregation of the high school. Coach Boone has to overcome the racism within the team, the coaching staff, and the community to build a winning racially mixed football team. Leader Description In the movie we have four primary leaders: · Herman Boone, the black head coach · Bill Yoast, the white assistant coach · Gerry Bertier, the white unofficial leader of the White athletes · Julius Campbell, the black unofficial...

...Throughout this paper you will see me make reference to Titan Americas Pennsuco facility. This is mostly because I am currently employed by them and have been working in the Pennsuco cement plant for over nineteen years now, so I have managed to learn a lot of its history through time and experience. Another reason is the fact that as a fellow employee the ruling to eliminate rock mining in Florida directly affects me mainly because this decision would put me out of a job. I would first like to begin by giving you a brief history of the Pennsuco land and how Titan America acquired the facility, so that you can have a better understanding of the issues that we are currently experiencing. In the early 1900s, Pennsylvania Sugar Co., which is where the term “Pennsuco” came from was one of several companies that obtained large acreages and planted sugar cane on the drained “muck land” of the Florida Everglades. Operations were good until the Great Depression of the 1930s hit the sugar market. Today the Pennsuco cement plant is located on the former Pennsuco sugar Farms property. (Cement Americas, 2005) In 1962 the Pennsuco site was purchased by Maule Industries, who then built one of the first ever cement plants in South Florida. It was eventually purchased in the 1970’s by Lonestar Cement who later sold the cement plant to Tarmac America who named it the Pennsuco facility. (Manufacturing Industry 1999) Finally, in 2000 Titan America purchased the Pennsuco cement plant. Since...

...Matt Purcell Mrs. Rakas Speech 16 June 16, 2012 Analysis: Coach Boone Speech The movie “Remember the Titans” is set in the early 1970’s in Virginia at a time when racism was most prevalent. The students are sent to the same high school mandated by federal law to integrate. Coach Boone, an African American coach, is hired to coach the football team over a successful white coach. Tensions grew high between the different races and the players did not respect each other. Coach Boone wakes up the players early and takes them on a jog through the woods to where the Battle of Gettysburg was fought and delivers an impactful speech to his football team. The speech was aimed to motivate the players to come together and respect one another. Coach Boone uses many different speech concepts that motivate his team to come together. Coach Boone makes many powerful verbal gestures to motivate his football team. He says, “ If we don’t come together… we, too, will be destroyed”. Coach Boone uses concrete details and strong imagery to get a picture into the players mind. Coach Boone is trying to show them that Americans lost their lives fighting for their rights and if they don’t come together they will be destroyed just like those men. He also points out that, “ This green field right ere was painted red. Bubbling with blood of young boys. Smoke and hot lead pouring right through”. Here the coach uses more concrete details and try to appeal to the emotions of the players. The audience was...

...What Makes a Team Click? SOC110 May 14, 2014 What Makes a Team Click? * Teams assemble with the interest of obtaining a particular goal. Whatever that goal may be, there are motives as to why we choose to join a team. To stay in a team and also choose to leave the team. As Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs suggest, there are motivating factors that move members to work together in groups, and they categorize into two groups. Satisfiers' and Motivators. The authors, Engelberg & Wynn, state that satisfiers' have the most basic needs like physiological and safety needs. Motivators are higher-level needs such as self- actualization, belongingness, and esteem needs (2011). For members with belongingness needs, a group provides a sense of belonging, by providing friendship opportunities and members find that they identify with others. Groups can also satisfy members with esteem needs, these needs are met through success and member satisfaction. Working in groups gives these members a sense of worthiness and that their contribution matters. Therefore, member motivation is necessary to fuel group performance and achieve successful collaboration. On the other hand, sometimes motives can also have a negative effect on collaboration. When individual motives such as esteem, belongingness, and self-actualization needs are not met they eventually create affective conflict. Within our group, it seems that these motives aren’t existent. Being that were so new to becoming a team together...

...INTRODUCTION Theory & Concept “A business has two – and only two – basic functions: marketing and innovation.” -Peter Drucker The rapid pace of change and intense competitive pressure in today’s marketplace demand that brands continuously innovate and reinvent themselves to maintain their relevance and market position. In this context, brand repositioning and other revitalization strategies have become a business imperative for battling brand erosion. The appeal of brand repositioning is further heightened by the rising costs and high risk associated with launching a new brand. Brand repositioning has received little attention in the marketing literature and has mostly been treated as a variation of brand positioning. Biel, for example, has defined brand positioning as “building (or rebuilding) an image for a brand”. The goal of positioning and repositioning strategies relates to the management of consumers’ perceptions. However, positioning focuses on the creation of band association – consumers’ perceptions of the attributes that differentiate the brand from competitive offers – while repositioning also implies managing existing brand associations. The unique challenge of a repositioning strategy thus lies in rejuvenating the brand image to make it relevant in an evolving environment, while honoring the brand equity heritage. Repositioning can be required as the market changes and new opportunities occur. Through repositioning the company can reach customers they...

...Intelligent pricing is one of the most important elements of any successful business venture. Yet many entrepreneurs fail to educate themselves adequately about various pricing components and strategies before launching a new business. Smart small business owners will weigh many marketplace factors before setting prices for their goods and services. As the Small Business Administration (SBA) indicated in The Facts About Pricing Your Products and Services, "you must understand your market, distribution costs, and competition. Remember, the marketplace responds rapidly to technological advances and international competition. You must keep abreast of the factors that affect pricing and be ready to adjust quickly." Cost Factors and Pricing There are three primary cost factors that need to be considered by small businesses when determining the prices that they charge for their goods or services. After all, price alone means little if it is not figured within the context of operating costs. A company may be able to command a hefty price for an item, only to find that the various costs of producing and delivering that item eliminate most or all of the profit that it realizes on the sale. It should also be noted that service businesses often find it more difficult to accurately gauge their costs, especially in the realm of employee hours. A freelance copyeditor may find that one 2,500-word article takes twice as long to complete as another article of the same size because of differences...
