Executive Summary

This report is to determine whether total team payroll for major league baseball teams directly varies with each team’s home attendance. This is an important statistical analysis because if we can prove that there is a relationship between salary and attendance then we can see that more fans in the stands will give a team more buying power when it comes to signing players.

Dataset

The independent variable is team payroll and the dependent variable is team home attendance. Each team plays 81 home games. The dataset consists of 30 Major League Baseball teams from the 2004 season.

Data Observations

For the independent variable:

The arithmetic mean for home attendance is: 30,453.67
The median for total home attendance is: 31,499.50
The standard deviation for total home attendance is: 8,132.28139
The minimum for total home attendance is: 14,052
The maximum for total home attendance is: 50,499

For the dependent variable:

The arithmetic mean for total payroll is: $73,052,363.27
The median for total payroll is: $66,191,416.50
The standard deviation for total payroll is: $33,672,116.60
The minimum for total payroll is: $29,363,067
The maximum for total payroll is: $208,306,817

...Regression Paper Team RES/342 Research and Evaluation Teacher Date The Hypothesis Team C’s hypothesis is that the more years of education one receives the more a person can potentially earn in salary. The team will use the process of linear regression analysis to explain how the information is used and conduct a five-step test to see if the hypothesis proves true or false. Linear Regression Analysis Team C’s purpose of this research paper is to use a linear regression analysis test to determine if a significant linear relationship exists between an independent variable which is X, level or years of education, and a dependent variable Y, salaries earned or potentially earned. “It is used to determine the extent to which there is a linear relationship between a dependent variable and one or more independent variables,” (Statistically Significant Consulting, 2010, para. 1). Learning Team C will use the salary and education levels from the Wages and Wage Earners Data Set collected through access to the e-source link of University of Phoenix. For this test the dependent variable, Y, will represent the salary of the 100 participants and the independent variable, X, will represent the education of the 100 participants. How the Information is used This information will be used in a linear regression test to see if there is enough evidence to reject the null hypothesis that a higher education does not equal...

Effects of Study Habits in Licensure Examination

...A Probabilistic Estimation of Passing the Licensure Examination for Accountant Adrian Tamayo, PhD Research and Publication Center University of Mindanao Esterlina Gevera Dean, College of Accounting Education University of Mindanao Lord Eddie Aguilar Faculty, College of Accounting Education University of Mindanao Abstract The paper employed a simulation model to determine probability of passing the CPA licensure exam. The predictor variables of the study were GPA, pre-review grade, and the subject clusters of the exam. The study covered periods 2007-2011. It was noted that the performance of the Accounting Education for the period covered was found to be impressive. Pre-review and the GPA have high statistical influence in passing the board exam. The threshold GPA is 2.2 while 2.4 for the prereview. Of the subject clusters in the board exam, accounting problems have the highest impact in the actual board score followed by theory of accounts, management services, practical accounting problems 2, practical accounting problems 1 and the least yet still bear impact is the business law and taxation. The collegiate validation exam used as indicator of readiness showed statistical association with the actual exam. A simulated model revealed that the scores of management and services, auditing problems, audit theory, business law and taxation and accounting problems 1 have strong board outcome effects. The theory of accounts and accounting problems 2 showed no statistical significance...

However, home owners can get confused very easily as they see close variation in price based on different descriptive characteristics. Home owners hesitate to get professional advice from real estate agents due to service price. On the other hand, our Multi Regression Model can help real estate agents provide fast predictions and advice to home owners at a minimum service price. Our solution would give real estate agents a competitive advantage in the real estate market. Problem statement: How to determine a reasonable asking price on n number of houses with its descriptive characteristics. Solution: Multi Regression Model is one way to assist real estate agents use data to provide an estimate. ...operations. Success is increasingly being dictated by how well a company can control its supply base and mitigate supply bottlenecks and liabilities. This paper used inductive and qualitative approaches to explore the salient factors that simultaneously enhance the “greening the supply chain” as well as maximizing the customer reach while maintaining the efficiency of the supply chain system of petroleum companies. The key indicators identified were environmental policies, supplier policies, sustainability, market orientation and commitment to human capital and diversity. A survey was conducted with key informants across many divisions of the LPG segment to investigate how well these environmental and customer reach in the supply chain are in synchronized with the top management’s commitment towards environmental responsiveness and maximizing customer orientation. The responses to the survey were statistically analyzed and a relationship model was constructed with Market orientation as the dependent variable and independent variables as: environmental policies, supplier policies, commitment to human capital and diversity, sustainability and market orientation. The paper proposes to measure the performance of the corporation with respect to greening the supply chain, maximizing the reach of consumers and operational efficiency with a view of re-engineering the existing supply chain of LPG cylinders in India. ...The Impact of Trade Liberalization on Gender Wage Differentials in India’s Manufacturing Sector* Nidhiya Menon, Brandeis University Yana van der Meulen Rodgers, Rutgers University April 2007 Abstract: As trade liberalization in India has unleashed a new wave of competitive forces in the economy since 1991, firms have faced growing pressure to cut costs in order to continue production. This study addresses the question of whether the increasing competitive forces from India’s trade liberalization affected the wages of male and female workers differently. Neoclassical theory implies that costly discrimination against female workers should diminish over time with increased competition (Becker 1971). We incorporate this idea into a theoretical model of competition and industry concentration in which the net impact of international trade on the gender wage gap could be positive or negative depending on the initial size of Becker’s discrimination coefficient. Our study tests the theoretical model using repeated cross sections of India’s NSSO household survey data merged with trade and production data from 1983 to 2004. We employ OLS and Fixed Effects techniques at the industry level to estimate the relationship between the male-female residual wage gap and measures of domestic concentration and international trade competition. Results indicate that increasing openness to trade is associated with a widening in the wage gap in India’s concentrated manufacturing...

We find that an inverted U-shape relationship exists between fund size and performance as measured by various performance benchmarks. Both economy of scale and liquidity play important roles in Chinese mutual funds. Furthermore, their combined effect explains the...

Fana,Ã, T.J. Wonga, Tianyu Zhangb a The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shatin, N.T., Hong Kong b City University of Hong Kong, Kowloon, Hong Kong Received 19 August 2005; received in revised form 31 January 2006; accepted 6 March 2006 Available online 24 January 2007 Abstract Almost 27% of the CEOs in a sample of 790 newly partially privatized firms in China are former or current government bureaucrats. Firms with politically connected CEOs underperform those without politically connected CEOs by almost 18% based on three-year post-IPO stock returns and have poorer three-year post-IPO earnings growth, sales growth, and change in returns on sales. The negative effect of the CEO’s political ties also show up in the first-day stock return. Finally, firms led by politically connected CEOs are more likely to appoint other bureaucrats to the board of directors rather than directors with relevant professional backgrounds. r 2007 Elsevier B.V. The Influence of Service Recovery Strategies on Word of Mouth

...Sabrina Norizan Center of Applied Management Studies Faculty of Business Management, Universiti Teknologi MARA 42300 Puncak Alam, Selangor Abstract This study explores the relationship between perceived customer dimensions of justice and word of mouth among the selected university students in mobile phone usage. The respondent used for this study was 500 business students of Malaysian university students located in Kelang Valley. Out of 327 questionnaires distributed, there were 181 complainants. Dimensions of justice act as an independent variable consisted of procedural, interactional and distributional justice. In order to determine the relationship between dimensions of justice and customer satisfaction the researcher used multiple regressions. The result showed that distributional justice and interactional justice as a significant unique contribution to the prediction of customer word of mouth. Further research should be carried out to identify the other factors of service recovery strategies that will help in increasing the customer satisfaction towards the organization. As this research was conducted in the telecommunication sector, it would be appropriate if further research can investigate if customers from the other sectors can display similar behavior. It is because different sectors will come out with different outcomes, thus it can help the organization to know the differences between the sectors and then take appropriate actions. The Just-in-Time philosophy is one such practice, however, research has predominantly focused on its technical features and on organisational variables, with surprising little research at the individual level. This paper examines JIT at an individual level and argues that the manager’s locus of control orientation would interact with their degree of JIT involvement to affect managerial performance. The results of a survey of 60 managers employing JIT, demonstrate that an increased degree of JIT involvement leads to a more positive effect on managerial performance for...

...LABOR MARKET INSTITUTIONS AND WAGE INEQUALITY WINFRIED KOENIGER, MARCO LEONARDI, and LUCA NUNZIATA* The authors investigate how labor market institutions such as unemployment insurance, unions, firing regulations, and minimum wages have affected the evolution of wage inequality among male workers. Results of estimations using data on institutions in eleven OECD countries indicate that changes in labor market institutions can account for much of the change in wage inequality between 1973 and 1998. Factors found to have been negatively associated with male wage inequality are union density, the strictness of employment protection law, unemployment benefit duration, unemployment benefit generosity, and the size of the minimum wage. Over the 26-year period, institutional changes were associated with a 23% reduction in male wage inequality in France, where minimum wages increased and employment protection became stricter, but with an increase of up to 11% in the United States and United Kingdom, where unions became less powerful and (in the United States) minimum wages fell. W age inequality is substantially lower in continental European countries than in the United States and United Kingdom, and its evolution over time has differed greatly across countries. The same holds true for the skill (or education) wage premium. Changes in the supply of and demand for skills are unlikely to fully account for these marked differences (Acemoglu 2003). A substantial amount of research on...
