Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman Loera was born in La Tuna, Badiraguato, Sinaloa, México on on April 4, is a former Mexican drug lord who headed the Sinaloa Cartel, a criminal organization named after the Mexican Pacific coast state of Sinaloa where it was formed. El Chapo was born into a poor rural family and lived six hours away from the closest city. Educated only to the 3rd grade and began selling marijuana with his father at a young age. At 15 he started selling it on his own and quickly made enough money to support his entire family. He built his mother a sprawling home in their rural hometown. She's a devout Catholic and "the only one who can change one of his decisions with a word." In 1993 he was arrested in Guatemala, but eight years later escaped from the maximum security prison in the Mexican state of Jalisco. In November 1995, he managed to win a transfer to the Puente Grande prison, near Guadalajara, where he remained as he faced trial for 10 different charges, including drug-trafficking and homicide. Then, on January 19, 2001, Guzmán managed to escape -- according to the Mexican government’s official record, by hiding in a dirty-laundry cart which guards eventually led to the gate of the penitentiary. But an ex-accomplice, Noé “El Gato” Hernández, has told journalists that El Chapo’s escape wasn’t nearly as daring as the Mexican Justice Department has made it seem, saying his old boss “walked out dressed as a policeman” and “through the front gate without firing a single shot”. Just how he escaped from prison is debated, but the most interesting story is that he hid in a laundry cart that was wheeled out of the prison, before escaping the grounds in the trunk of a car driven by a security guard. The whole thing was planned through bribes and intimidation, and the $2.5 million escape involved up to 78 accomplices. He is the first man to be named “Public Enemy No. 1” in Chicago since Al Capone. His cartel transports upwards of 4,000 pounds of cocaine into Chicago every month, where it makes its way across the U.S.
On February 22, 2014, the President of Mexico, Enrique Peña Nieto confirmed that Guzman Loera had been caught in a joint operation of the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Defense, the Navy, the Attorney General's Office, Federal Police and the Center for Investigation and National Security. joaquín escape in 2001. On March 10, 2014, the security chief Miguel Angel Felix Gallardo told toUS authorities Guzman Loera had participated, along with agents of the defunct Federal Security Directorate in the kidnapping of DEA agent Enrique Camarena when the former was Guadalajara Cartel gunman. But just because the United States wants to extradite him, does not mean that Guzman Loera cross the border shortly.
Chapo’s wifes
At 55 years old, married with Maria Alejandrina Hernandez Salazar, Griselda Lopez Perez, also known as Karla Perez Rojo (twice) and Emma Coronel Aispuro with which have had 10 children. Two children of the marriage with Maria Alejandrina Hernandez Salazar, Ivan Archivaldo, Jesus Alfredo Guzman Salazar have drug-related crimes in the United States. In 1977, he married in the town of Jesús María, Sinaloa with Alexandrina Maria Salazar Hernandez with whom he begat three sons: Ivan Archivaldo, Jesus Alfredo Guzman and Cesar Salazar. Guzmán Salazar, was acquitted by Judge Third Unitary Court in Criminal Matters located in the city of Mexico, Jesus Guadalupe Moon Altamirano, after he found that there was evidence in addition to their kinship, that the money used to open bank accounts and purchase a luxury vehicle came from drug trafficking.

According to the PGR Moon Altamirano could not prove that Ivan Archivaldo Guzman Salazar was part of the structure of the Sinaloa cartel and the judge granted him freedom in April 2008.

Jesus Alfredo Guzman Salazar, alias "Gordo" is considered one of the main leaders of the Sinaloa cartel and key element of the criminal organization for being presumably responsible for managing the assets of his father Joaquin Guzman Loera.

The "Gordo" has a warrant in Chicago, United States. Since 2009, the Court for the Northern District of Illinois imputes to participate with his father in a series of offenses for drug trafficking. Plus it has an extradition order from the government of the United States of America. Mid-eighty, the "Chapo" Guzman remarried with Griselda Lopez Perez, also known as Karla Perez Rojo. By her he had four children: Edgar, Joaquín, Ovid and Griselda Guadalupe Lopez Perez. In November 2007, "El Chapo" Guzman married beauty queen then 18, Emma Coronel Aispuro in Canelas, Durango with whom he had two children in 2011 in Los Angeles, California. In May 2010, Griselda Lopez Perez was arrested by soldiers in Culiacan, Sinaloa and after declaring in OFDI, their freedom law reserves were determined.
Caro quintero
The capture of Guzman Loera is linked to the release from prison of Caro Quintero says the former agent in charge of solving the case of Enrique Camarena. In a telephone interview with Efe from California, former agent of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) said that "El Chapo" captured on Saturday February 4, 2014 in Mazatlan Sinaloa Mexico department, had ceased to have "protection Mexican government "and I knew it was going to be captured.

According Berrellez, the government of Mexico raised the considered the biggest drug lord of the world that if forcibly resisting arrest and imprisonment, lost his life. "He knew he would be arrested because he always brought as 200 men protecting, including military. And it was decided that 'Chapo' Guzman, by their very violent tendencies, would no longer be protected (...), as told : o walk to jail or going to die because you are going to remove all the escort, "said the former agent of the DEA.

Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman Loera, who faces US charges of drug trafficking, money laundering, conspiracy to commit murder, among other crimes, was arrested on Saturday in an operation in which, as revealed by the authorities, it was not necessary to shoot a single shot.

For the agent in charge of solving the case of Enrique Camarena, after his assassination in Guadalajara (Mexico) in 1985, this detail confirms that there was an arrangement between Mexican authorities and the world's most wanted drug trafficker. The chairman of the National Security of the House of Representatives, Michael McCaul, today announced it has begun efforts to secure the extradition of "El Chapo" to prevent escape from a Mexican jail again, as happened in 2001.
Berrellez linked the arrest of "El Chapo" with the release from prison of Caro Quintero, last August, and said that after the capture of Guzman, he is now the 'boss of bosses'.
"Now he will reign as boss of bosses, Caro Quintero" he said. "When they arrested Ernesto Fonseca and Caro Quintero, he left the kingdom to four people: (Ismael) Zambada, (Juan José Esparragosa Moreno) the 'Blue', 'Chapo' (Joaquin Guzman) and 'Amadito' Carrillo (Amado Carrillo Fuentes ). But the condition was that if they left they would take the kingdom. " was apprehended by an elite commando, composed of six Marines. To him, they spoke their phones, spied with aircraft intercepted their radio, which had in recent photographs, deduced that three were his vices (money, women and candy), who was a fan of the blades Tutsi-Pop and peanuts, often sent to buy good food at restaurants, did not live more than two days under the same roof, that hair and mustache, which had treadmills at all safe houses, which had lost weight was painted to lately, he did not use cell, often made to his trusted men eat what led him to verify that he was not poisoned, no longer did drugs, I was so suspicious that allowed only four people were with him forever: chaneke, his security chief; Condor, his chief of communications; Nose, his errand, (the three former members of the group of Army special forces) and their cook. In addition, government intelligence reports indicated that Guzman Loera visited this property alone with his family to live with their children, and therefore preferred to not have many weapons and many escorts. This is the access to the ranch. With some screens that completely cover the garage with the aim that someone was out there lost, taking photographs or ready to fire did not have a goal, they could not see what I could not photograph. Getting out of his vehicle parked here, knowing they could be watching over the air, via satellite systems or aircraft retained all its route covered, covered to get to the house, this is the main ranch house, which according to what they tell us, was still running out of building and out here we can see a new palafito in this estuary and the paradise he had built for his family, Joaquín Guzmán Loera. The ranch is a complex of bungalows with a main house surrounding a jacuzzi, a children's pool and a pool bar.

What is your psychological profile?
According to Viridiana Rios, a member of the Program on Equity and Social Policy at Harvard University, states that a person becomes a drug dealer to have developed a taste for power, like risk and are calculators in decision-making.Even states that access a feared group by society and like to break rules. Moreover, a criminal profile prepared by experts from the Attorney General's Office (PGR) and published by a local magazine of Sinaloa, explained that El Chapo Guzman has a high reaction reasoning. It also has a need for leadership, which controls its environment. Fulfills its commitments and is considered as a person emotionally stable.Clearly defined goals and the way to achieve them. The experts detailed the capo is seductive, splendid and protector, so it creates circles of trust. An example of this are the four wives and adventures you've had. Has a great ability to do business and forge alliances, to the extent that could be the CEO of a multinational company lawyers handle instead of assassins, as does his criminal organization. Francisco Javier Arellano Felix, former head of the Tijuana Cartel and better known as "Ocelot", declared in the United States to the PGR Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman Loera escaped at least three assassination attempts.
According to information published by the newspaper El Universal, Arellano Felix, 43 years old and held since 2006, revealed in 2012 failed attempts by other capos to eliminate the leader of the Sinaloa Cartel, who is currently a fugitive.
The first in 1991, according to "The Ocelot", Ismael "El Mayo" Zambada quoted Guzman Loera at his home in Culiacán in complicity with Amado Carillo "Lord of heaven"; Bonnet arrived but "The Quique" Fernandez, who was at the scene, told Zambada there were many people of "El Chapo" out of the house, so the decision was taken not to kill him. "El Mayo went to Culiacan and took Ismael Higuera Guerrero alias" El Mayel 'my brother Ramón; Amado Carrillo people and people from "El Mayo" (...) came to Culiacán around the house, and 'El Mayo' made a call to 'El Chapo' and quoted him at home."(Guzman Loera came and 'The Quique' Fernández) told the 'May' that many people outside of 'Chapo'; then my brother Ramon was going to go kill him, but 'The Quique' stood at the door and told him to "El Mayo" said he did not kill the 'Chapo', and my brothers made her case to the 'May', then Ramón not killed, "he said.
On a second occasion, at the ranch "La Barda" in Baja California were warned that "El Chapo" was out of Tepic, Nayarit, to Mexico in a commercial plane, so they put together an operation to wait at the airport to kill him, but the leader of the Sinaloa cartel failed.
The third opportunity lords had to murder his rival, was in Guadalajara. Ramon Arellano Felix, brother of "The Ocelot", he was in his car and ran into Guzman Loera, although they shot his vehicle, the trafficker escaped said Arellano Felix. Ramon put his car behind him, advancing to the Peripheral of Guadalajara, brought a goat horn with bullets shielded, 'The Chuyón', a gun M-60 and the other 306 had a gun to pierce armor, would wait a red light, but he struck from behind, when they could sneak, they began firing, but managed to sneak by a dirt road, and they fled, and could not be ... "he said. had opened his mouth. That's what some federal agents who traveled with the Mexican capo when he was transferred to the City of Mexico. Among his revelations would have accepted to have killed between 2000 and 3000 people, including the mafia Ramón Arellano, a leader of the Tijuana cartel disappeared. The talk would have happened before Jesus Murillo Karam, Mexican Attorney announced the arrest of most wanted drug trafficker in the world. Although previously a US official, who was not identified, had already given him the scoop to the Associated Press.
"He knows very well that this questioning has no value. Therefore detainees speak. Now when they are facing a public prosecutor, as it is from the Sunday afternoon already told the judge, not state to whom you interrogates it and declare before the judge. is that what you have ministerial value. Speaking of his crimes was not the only thing that would have been encouraged to confess El Chapo Guzman. The agents say they used the time to say it was not he who killed him, in Jalisco, Cardinal Juan Jesus Posadas Ocampo.
In May 1993 all media and authorities pointed to Joaquín Guzmán Loera was behind the murder of the priest, who was killed in his car. The joy should not cloud the judgment of the government, nobody can deny that the capture of Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman is the biggest blow to the Mexican government has given the drug in recent years. However, one can not deny that none of the catches of the great lords of old has had a significant impact in reducing violence or deceleration in the traffic of drugs was the United States. That is why this article seeks to answer the following questions; 1) Why the arrest of major drug lords have such a poor impact in decreasing violence or transfer of illegal substances? and 2) How can adjust the government's strategy to be more effective in combating violence and combating drug trafficking? The causal theory on which the government's strategy is based can be summarized in the following sentence: the leader of a criminal organization is a figure that brings the power, relationships, resources, knowledge and loyalties within each organization, thus if the character is arrested or killed in a confrontation, it leaves a void in the organization that is difficult to fill. Therefore, if a criminal organization loses its leader, it will undergo a process of adjustment and decomposition which can cause the disappearance of the organization. That said, in colloquial words, the idea is to hit the head of the organization and wait for the other members fall under its own weight. Surely this is a very suggestive theory that makes us believe that we are on the right track and that's only a matter of time before the structure of criminal organizations in Mexico begins to crumble; even it is a belief shared by much of the public in this country, usually is equated to the arrest of bosses with the success of policies to combat organized crime. However, this theory suffers from a fundamental error: no drug cartel has a vertical, hierarchical structure, however, the architecture of the cartels is more like a network of interconnected actors who can easily adapt to external changes such

The US government increased its charges against Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzman Loera, leader of the Sinaloa Cartel arrested in February, and against his partner Ismael "El Mayo" Zambada Garcia. On September 25, federal prosecutors in Brooklyn grew from 9-21 crimes imputed to both capos, of 4000-14000000000 dollars the amount of resources to be searched takes out, and 127-465 tons of allegedly trafficked cocaine into the United States between 1999 and 2014. Additional charges include 13 murders and an attack in 2008 against another drug lord Arturo Beltran Leyva, and an unknown number rinse murders of members of the Cartel Carrillo Fuentes, Arellano Felix, Los Zetas, Mexican police and military personnel, and witnesses informants and cooperating with US authorities.Individual victims are identified by name Rodolfo Carrillo Fuentes, brother of the former head of the Juarez cartel, Amado Carrillo, completed in 2004; Roberto Velasco Bravo, former director of Tactical Analysis of the AFI, executed at his home in Mexico City in 2008, Julio Beltrán Quintero, "The Julion", murdered in Ciudad Obregón in 2005 and husband of a financial operator of the Sinaloa Organization . El Chapo will witness in lawsuit against El Teo
Attorney reveals how network operated El Chapo in ChicagoThe Margarito and Pedro Flores brothers describe how the drug came to the entity and supply eight other cities Two accomplices Chapo "revealed to the prosecution of Chicago how network operating drug trafficking) CHICAGO, 10 November.- Prosecutors have released the testimony of two drug dealers converted into government witnesses that offers a look at how the Mexican drug kingpin Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman trafficked drugs to Chicago and other US cities . In documents -presentados in Federal District Court in Chicago during the weekend-, Margarito and Pedro Flores described a profitable and well-organized network that was governed by strict operating rules established by Guzman and other leaders of the Sinaloa cartel The American Sylvia Longmire, founder of a company specialized in the analysis of criminal violence in Mexico consultant, puts it bluntly: President Enrique Peña Nieto "may not change much the strategy against drug trafficking followed by Calderon." His reasoning is as follows: the PRI will have to define the involvement of the military but cannot afford to change the strategy. If you do, you risk alienating your neighbor Obama. Paradoxically, he insists, is that this strategy is to maintain freedom to Chapo Guzmán, the least violent of drug lords. As many analysts and military exanalistas US Longmire considered to Mexican drug cartels as a threat to US security, even beyond the border with Mexico.

Aware of the dynamics of Mexican drug cartels, go to Chapo Guzman Loera as a factor of stability for the government of Peña Nieto in the purpose of the new government to lower the heightened violence for control of organized crime in Mexico.Run since 2001, the beginning of the government of Vicente Fox, when he escaped from maximum security prison in Puente Grande, Jalisco, has escaped several operating entrusted the army to stop it.Even the Pentagon conceived a surgical operation, at the request of Calderon. But the Mexican armed forces objected because the similar operation to hunt the leader of Al Qaeda, Osama bin Laden, would be in charge of a special force command Seal (acronym of the words sea, air and land) without intervention Mexican military than to receive (Process 1867). His detention now would be counterproductive because it would leave most violent groups controlling drug trafficking, Longmire said in a telephone interview Tuesday November 27 with regard to the article published on 31 October in smallwarsjournal.com entitled Why the arrest of Chapo could be a bad thing. Never before has the criminal situation in the country, had been so severe, as were the events of 1993 and 1994, where he died a prince of the Catholic Church, a presidential candidate of the hegemonic PRI party, and the leader of the bench PRI representatives; all these events gave the perception that Mexico, was a "Narco State".Then, public safety, was a function that deserves more attention, as this was considered a service by municipalities; however, the emergence of powerful drug cartels, forcing the state to take a look on the police who were in the country. He had made various provisions of the constitution, to recognize a specialized type of crime, different from ordinary; a delinquency to which was given the title of "organized" and that given its danger, deserved a "special treatment", more stringent laws, so that it can fight. The criminal and criminal procedure codes were reformed, plus issued a law against organized crime. From the economic point of view, federation, states and municipalities created a fund, which, for 1999, had intended the amount of 9,000,000,000 pesos and for 2000, increased to 12.255 million pesos; and all for one goal: Combating organized crime. The fall of world number one drug, Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman is a victory for Mexico, capitalized by President Enrique Peña Nieto. But with his arrest, the country's authorities are also prepared for a scene of violence fights his rivals to take the place of the leader of the Sinaloa Cartel.
"There will be a huge void with this capture," said Mike Vigil, former head of international operations at the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the AFP news agency. "There is a great possibility that this increased violence in Mexico," he added. The fall of world number one drug, Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman is a victory for Mexico, capitalized by President Enrique Peña Nieto. "There will be a huge void With This capture," Said Mike Vigil, former head of international operations at the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the AFP news agency. "There is a great Possibility That esta Increased violence in Mexico," I added. It was a quick, perhaps talk did not complete the minute, from cell to cell, with the natural rush of prisons, from unknown to unknown, under the unique bond of misfortune. Furthermore, the prevailing brevity which is prone Mario Aburto Martinez, the confessed murderer of Luis Donaldo Colosio Murrieta, former candidate for the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) to the Presidency of the Republic in 1994. The other party was Joaquin "El Chapo "Guzman. What was the relationship between them? None. Did not even know. Despite a wealth of versions of journalistic sources, ministerial statements and interrogations, which from 1994 to 2000 said the drug could be the great motive for killing the candidate, none of the three prosecutors handling the case results achieved under this line of research. The Report of the Special Attorney for the Colosio case there are four versions that indicate the possibility of a link between drug traffickers and members of the campaign team of Luis Donaldo Colosio. There are three others that allude to the campaign was financed with funds from such illegal activity (this is where the name of Joaquin Guzman Loera, as supporter and supplier Colosio campaign appears). Nine versions suggest that for many reasons, cartels may have ordered the killing. Six versions carry the proverbial phrase: reckoning. This is because for the cartels, the scene of Colosio in the presidency augured good destination or because they had already been affected by "something". Three versions indicate that Aburto Martinez may have been related to the movement of drugs. After his arrest by members of the Navy, the drug lord Joaquin Guzman Loera, alias "El Chapo Guzman", confessed some details of his criminal operation during the 123 years he was a fugitive from justice.
These are the most important revelations of 'Chapo' Guzman after his second arrest: 1. The mistake that cost him freedom
2. Reunion with the boss of bosses 3.Caro's hideout.
4.About 'The Blue' and 'May'
5. Templar: filthy thieves
6. Lazca, a gentleman
7. Dead Chapo
8. Death of Ramon Arellano
9. The betrayal of the Beltrán
10. The tastes of Chapo Guzman
Most analysis of the future of the Sinaloa cartel after the capture of Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman Loera suggest that their successors will Ismael "El Mayo" Zambada and Juan Jose Esparragoza Moreno "Blue", but the name of Damasus Lopez Jr., aka the "Mini Lic" godson bonnet, arrested on Saturday in Mazatlan, had gone unnoticed. According to the US Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), the "Mini Lic" is the real successor of Guzman Loera, who bring youth to the organization, led by men and women who spend 40 years of age blood. The DEA has a psychological profile "The Mini Lic" who does not exceed 28 years of age, and considers a young seductive [with certain trends sociopathy] who likes to travel to beautiful places, where conquest women and uses multiple businesses to launder money from sales of tons of drugs.

Forbes has also appointed Chapo Guzman as one of the most influential world "being the largest supplier of cocaine on US soil." According to the magazine, the Mexican capo participates in a market that generates an illegal business of 323,000 million dollars a year. The US government is offering a reward of five million dollars for his capture. Forbes admitted today that helped forge the "black legend" of drug trafficker Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman, for having included in his famous list of the richest men in the world.
Forbes Vice President Americas, Edward de Valle II, told Notimex that the decision would generate criticism was assessed at the time, but the cluster of businesses participating Guzman and his huge profits bashed to take into account.
Join the group of men with the largest fortunes in the world, along with entrepreneurs, investors and executives prominent legitimate business "increased" fame drug dealer, "but that was not the intention," he argued.
"El Chapo" Guzman, the world's most wanted criminal, who in January 2001 escaped from maximum security prison in Puente Grande, Jalisco, was reaprehendido by Mexican authorities last February 21 in Mazatlan, Sinaloa.
The drug trafficker scored major gains in front of a group of organized crime, identified as one of the largest suppliers of cocaine to the United States.
With an estimated at over one billion dollars by Fortune magazine specializing in business, he joined the Forbes annual list of the most powerful in the world of 2009-2012.De Valle II considered the end, this kind of public display became a "double edged sword" because it also focused attention on the leader of organized crime and hindered their financial transactions.
Most care received "complicated" life Guzman and "business" of his group of transnational organized crime and somehow "pushed" the aim of capturing the capo, he said. The executive led a press conference in Guatemala City to announce the Central American edition of the magazine specializing in business topics, which will begin circulating in April in Guatemala. The Central American market represents a great opportunity for "a powerful global brand as it is Forbes," said the executive of Cuban origin and with offices based in Miami. He explained that numbers will be published with economic issues and business in the countries of the region and circulate Forbes, with a monthly circulation of 50,000 magazines, Guatemala (15,000 copies), Panama, El Salvador, Honduras and Nicaragua. With the opening of the Central American edition, Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico, the magazine will have 11 publications in Latin America. The next year expects to Chile, Peru and Colombia.Forbes, with a century in the market and a presence in over one hundred countries, opened in 2010 editions in Brazil and Argentina and for 18 months is published in Mexico, which has reached more than one million readers, De Valle said.... Today the US magazine Forbes surprised readers to disappear from your list of millionaires Mexican drug trafficker Joaquin "El El Chapo" Guzman, after four consecutive years include, but why called off? .In His blog, Caleb Melby, the Forbes staff said that they decided to remove it from the list of the world's millionaires because there are certain how you are spending money you earn illegal and because the magazine has not been able to reach him to verify the figures.
The staff of Forbes says he believes that "a growing chunk of their money intended to protect him and his family." In the absence of confirmation of this information, Forbes says the leader of the Sinaloa cartel remains one of the most powerful people in the world, "but no longer someone who is confident enough to be called a billionaire."
Forbes Mexico proposed deleting "El Chapo"
Meanwhile, Forbes confirmed that Mexico since late last year its partners and the editorial team held a meeting with his US counterparts, which proposed eliminating "El Chapo" from the list of billionaires by an editorial position in which journalistic rigor and figures is privileged. Jonathan Torres, deputy editor of Forbes Mexico, Political Animal confirms that the team of the Mexican version of the journal American group proposed to delete from the list the leader of the Sinaloa cartel, to send the message that Forbes is a publication that privileges journalistic rigor, respect for the figure and full identification of the source from which the numbers are obtained.
While confirming the proposal of the Mexican team recognizes that the ultimate decision to delete or keep Guzman Loera in the list of the richest men fell exclusively on Forbes United States.
Torres explained that "among the flags that are promoting Forbes Mexico are transparency, accountability and simultaneously promote economy and legitimate business and a character as 'El El Chapo' does not cover any of these characteristics "."Pull it is a sign that we want to build stories with clear methodology and statistical rigor that every business story must have" added the journalist.Impossible to calculate the fortune of Guzman Loera: specialist
Since 2011, Alejandro Hope, security specialist and blogger Political Animal, warned that it was almost impossible to calculate reliably the personal fortune of "El El Chapo" Guzman and claimed that "nobody knows and nobody can know (how much money 'El El Chapo ') unless that escaped from Puente Grande release the soup. "Hope claimed that "Forbes has neither had nor ever will have the ability to make such an estimate. And what is ultimately betrays its estimate never changes: Chapo will always calculated billion, making it, I suppose, one of the worst investors in the world ".

Sociology

...Chicago Street Gangs The City of Chicago is home to many iconic sites and famous things including Wrigley Field, Giordano’s deep dish pizza, Navy Pier, Portillos, and Willis Tower. Chicago residents live and work in some of the most affluent, wealthy, and glamorous neighborhoods like The Gold Coast and River North. Over the last couple of years though, the spotlight has been shifted from all of Chicago’s wonderful things to its poverty stricken neighborhoods, rising crime rate, murders, and drug problems. All of these things can be linked to what many consider Chicago’s biggest problem, street gangs. But today the city seems to be far more segregated and full of poverty in neighborhoods that are home to minorities. Many adults turn to the streets to make a living and children see their elders and in return do the same. These same poor neighborhoods have a failing public education system for the youth along with a bad relationship with police. According to the Chicago Crime Commission, “a 2012 Chicago Police Department gang audit found there are more than 600 gang factions in the city, with a minimum combined membership of 70,000” (cbsnews.com). With the large number of gang members in the city there is a lot of fighting going on over turf for control of drug distribution. This is mainly a problem occurring in minority communities all throughout Chicago. “201 of the 259 homicide victims were African-American” (chicagotribune.com). While blacks make up about 33 percent of the...

Arms Trafficking in Us and Mexico

...Arms Trafficking between the United States and Mexico: The Drug Trafficking Nexus Transnational Crime and Globalization By: Katrina T. Mason May 2, 2008 The United States is quite known for their proactive stances on the “War on Drugs”, “War on Terror”, and “War in Iraq”. Some view them as the international police and others view them as the international fiend, but it is in no doubt that the United States takes a very active stance in fighting what they believe is evil and wrong within the world. This is increasingly true for the evils that occur within its own borders such as the continued drug epidemic, domestic violence, child abuse, poverty, gangs, and prostitution (with the exception of Nevada). Unfortunately though, the United States’ stance on legal activities crossing from their own governance into neighboring states where the activity is illegal is not held with the same level of concern or dedication. A primary example of this double standard can be seen on the Mexican-United States border. This is not in reference to the debris from the giant wall being built on the Mexican border falling to the southern side, the young Americans fleeing across the borders to intoxicate themselves, or even the revolution of McDonalds springing up in towns throughout Mexico; but instead to the small arms and light weapons trafficking continually flowing down from the border states into Mexico causing alarming murder rates, economical...
