...Research Methods Assignment 1. The research question is whether exposure to sun and listening to familiar music affects a person’s mood. 2. The research hypothesis is that a person who is exposed to the sun and listens to familiar music would be in a better mood than a person not exposed to the sun and listens to unfamiliar music. 3. The population of interest for the research could theoretically include all group ages and their status in life. For the sake of the research, our sample would be students between ages 22-27 from 4 different universities (sample size of at least 60 people to get significant results). 4. We will divide our sample into 4 different groups Sun exposure + familiar music (group 1) | Sun exposure + non-familiar music (group 2) | No son exposure + familiar music (group 3) | No sun exposure + non-familiar music (group 4) | 5. The independent variables in this research are sun exposure and listening to familiar music. The dependent variable is the person’s mood. Sun exposure can be practically defined by determining a certain amount of time from which we can conclude that a person has been exposed to sun (i.e. 30 minutes). The definition for familiar music can be determined by a pilot before we begin our research on a population which is not part of the sample through which we can find out which songs are familiar (and conversely non-familiar). This way we can define practically and operationally which songs are familiar and which...

...Sample Dissertation Proposal 1 Sample Dissertation Proposal: “The perspectives of using online marketing research” Name Goes Here: Name of University Here: www.mastersthesiswriting.com Sample Dissertation Proposal 0.0. Introduction 2 The evolution of the internet is perhaps the most bewildering and comprehensive enhancement of information technologies that has been witnessed in the past decade. The internet has restructured the way people communicate, both on a personal and professional level. For instance, the social web has taken over Advertising, Marketing, promotion, Public Relations, Customer Service and novel conduits and tools. Information obtained from this research will be significant in shaping the success of new online research products and services. Most online research consumers spring from the professional division; as a result, prices of quality online research tend to be a bit on the high side. This attracts the attention of companies to consumers in the personal or normal consumer segment. It is anticipated that online research should target both segments (professional and personal) with the price factor in mind and this research will determine whether this is a veritable fact or not (Chisnall 186). 1.0. Research objectives The following research objectives have been identified: 1.1. To identify the right tools, methods and opportunities of marketing research online 1.2. To explore the internal and external characteristics...

...University of Phoenix Business Research Applications MGT480 Dr. Martha Stillman January 04, 2009 Mindwriter Corporation Critique A critique of Mindwriter’s Corporation research proposal will be reviewed for its effectiveness. The research method that was chosen for the proposal and how well it worked will also be discussed. In the preceding paragraphs the proposal will tell what, why, how, where and to whom the research will be done as well as show the benefit of the research itself. Before a research study takes place it is always a good idea to do a development chart which clearly describes how the problem is taken in steps and the research questions and objectives are used to arrive at a proposal to be approved before the study takes place. This will definitely be a useful guide to go by and can always be altered to meet needs. (Cooper & Schindler, 2003, chap. 4) Problem Statement Looking at the statement it says that some customers are unhappy with Mindwriter’s service problems. There is a program called CompleteCare which promises to provide service related issues on portable laptop and notebook computers. Apparently there is a shortage of trained personnel in the call center and Mindwriter wants to find out whether it’s the result of this or its products. Management is requiring information on the effectiveness of this program and whether it’s effective or not and if there are any improvements to be made to the program. Research Objectives For this section...

...Research Proposal on Smoking Amongst Teenage Girls in Secondary School. In the following proposal, I intend to put forward a proposal to study the smoking habits of teenage girls in secondary school. It has come to my attention that this is a problem area that is on the rise. I wish to use government funding to conduct research into this issue. It is my belief that if I can find the root of the problem, and discover why many young girls are smoking, I will then be able to propose and launch initiatives to try and tackle the problem altogether. In this proposal I endeavour to put forward the importance of my research question; why are the teenage girls in attending secondary school in Ireland smoking. Weather its due to a lack of information, peer pressure or the pressures of school I intend to find out. I intend to use three different types of research methods to gain information on why these girls are smoking. The first method I will use is focus groups. I think these will be useful on gaining an insight into these girl’s lives and to build a relationship with them. I will be able to see different reactions and will hopefully receive a lot of feedback. I’m also aware that in a focus group some members may be too shy or intimidated to speak up, this has lead me to my second research method which will be in-depth one to one interviews with girls. With these interviews I hope to get to the real truth of why these girls are smoking and what it would take to make them...

...Jason Geoltz Research Project Research Question What are the reasons that graduates living in Tallahassee area under the age of 25, are remaining in this location as opposed to moving? Structure and Justification This research proposal is qualitative in nature because I am gathering information regarding the various reasons that these individuals are remaining in Tallahassee after graduating as opposed to beginning a new life outside of the region. I want to determine the different factors that result in these recent graduates continuing residency in Tallahassee. I believe that from socio-economic, pregnancy and other situational factors all contribute to the decision to live in this city. I am studying the decisions made by these post-graduates, and not calculating the various statistics that each categorical reason has associated with it. For this reason, this proposal is qualitative and not quantitative. Measurements The primary source of data will come through interviews, a structured set of questions, and categories that will have certain parameters. I will observe economic and social norms as well as changes. Participants A random sampling of recent graduates is to be acquired fitting the age requirement. No bias is to me made for race, economical standing or gender. Methods I will use journal reports and interviews as my primary research method. Social media will be reviewed as well. Results Reporting Categorical bar graphs will be used as well as percentages...

...reputable firm. Secondary business data can be very helpful in determining the correct business path for a company to go in. The data, though conflicting should still be incorporated and explained in his research findings to his group. The data is from a government -sponsored website and may be very valuable. Joshua should stay late and examine the quality of the data he has found on the conflicting website. He needs to look at the reliability and the validity of the data that is presented. Who is the information being provided through and how was it collected, and is it free from bias? What was the data in the study originally collected for and does that influence the outcome. The information is from a government sponsored website so there is some credibility in the source. I do not feel that Joshua should ignore this research in his findings. If Joshua feels that he does not want to include this data he should talk to his group and explain why he feels it is not relevant. It should not be hidden from the findings if it has a role to play in the research and can help the restaurant’s performance in the future. There is a value in secondary research and when it is used appropriately it can enhance and enrich a business project or proposal. Many of the methods used to collect data involve electronic data collection through surveys and online questionnaires. The correct choice for Joshua to make in this dilemma is to spend more time on his findings to determine...

...and quantitative research. In qualitative research, symbols and words are used to indicate the presence or absence of a phenomenon and categorizing the phenomenon into different types. Conversely, quantitative research uses numerical indicators to determine the relative size of a particular phenomenon. The methods used in quantitative research give high levels of measurement precision and statistical power. Stakeholders in businesses perceive things differently. As such, people tend to choose different aspects and focus their attention on what is familiar and important to them. Further, perception occurs due to people’s ability to choose some stimuli while...
