26. CRITICAL VALUES: The value of the standard statistic (z or t) beyond which we reject the null hypothesis. It is the boundary between the acceptance & rejection regions. Eg. For a 2 tailed hypothesis test being tested at α = 5% the critical values are ± 1.96. 27. TYPE I ERROR (OR) LEVEL OF SIGNIFICANCE (OR) PRODUCER’S RISK (α): A value indicating the % of sample values that are outside certain limits, assuming that the null hypothesis is true. It is the probability of rejecting the null hypothesis when it is true. Eg: α=5% indicates that 5 times out of 100 the null hypothesis gets rejected when it is true. 28. TYPE II ERROR (OR) CONSUMER’S RISK (β): It is the probability of accepting the null hypothesis when it is false. 29. POWER OF A TEST: It is the probability of rejecting the null hypothesis when it is false. It reflects how well the hypothesis test is working. It is measured as 1-β. 30. Sampling Error: An error in research findings that arises due to the use of a sample to estimate the population parameter. It is the random variation in

...Portugal Abstract Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to contribute to the implementation of best practices of collaboration between university and industrial small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Design/methodology/approach – This paper presents the experience carried on by a university group fostering the collaboration with SME companies involving young engineering students and researchers in projects designed for the resolution of real industrial problems. A collaboration model is proposed and described. Four real case studies are presented. Findings – The purposed model promotes the involvement of the young engineers with authentic industrial experiences, enables the build-up of their practical framework and encourages their entrepreneurial growth. It also promotes the innovation process in SME companies through the close collaboration with universities. Practical implications – The collaboration between universities and SME companies should be based on a small projects base. These projects must be focus in localized and specific problematic areas in the industrial companies, where the potential of improvement and innovation is large, must diagnose the problematic situation and propose new and efficient solutions supported by technical/scientific methodologies. The involvement of managers and collaborators of SME companies and the clearly definition of their roles in the project are fundamental issues for the collaboration success. Originality/value – The model presented...

Project Management

...PROJECT MANAGEMENT WHAT IS PROJECT MANAGEMENT? : The word project comes from the Latin word projectum from the Latin verb proicere, "to throw something forwards" which in turn comes from pro-, which denotes something that precedes the action of the next part of the word in time (paralleling the Greek πρό) and iacere, "to throw". The word "project" thus actually originally meant "something that comes before anything else happens". When the English language initially adopted the word, it referred to a plan of something, not to the act of actually carrying this plan out. Something performed in accordance with a project became known as an "object". Project management is the discipline of planning, organizing and managing resources to bring about the successful completion of specific project goals and objectives. A project is a finite endeavor (having specific start and completion dates) undertaken to create a unique product or service which brings about beneficial change or added value. This finite characteristic of projects stands in sharp contrast to processes, or operations, which are permanent or semi-permanent functional work to repetitively produce the same product or service. In practice, the management of these two systems is often found to be quite different, and as such requires the development of distinct technical skills and the adoption of separate management philosophy. The primary challenge of project management is to achieve all of the project goals...

Schizophrenia Research

...INTRODUCTION Schizophrenia is a serious brain disorder. It is a disease that makes it difficult for a person to tell the difference between real and unreal experience, to think logically, to have normal emotional responses to others, and to behave normally in social situations. Approximately 1 percent of the population develops schizophrenia during their lifetime, and more than 2 million Americans suffer from the illness in a given year. Although schizophrenia affects men and women with equal frequency, the disorder often appears earlier in men, usually in the late teens or early twenties, than women, who are generally affected in the twenties to early thirties. Schizophrenia is a complex and puzzling illness. Even the experts in the field are not exactly sure what causes it. Doctors think that the brain may not be able to process information correctly. Some experts said that the genetic, psychological and social and person’s environment factors may trigger schizophrenia. There are five recognized types of schizophrenia such as catatonic, paranoid, disorganizes, undifferentiated, and residual. Features of schizophrenia include its typical onset before the age of 45, continuous presence of symptoms for six months or more, and deterioration from level of social and occupational functioning. People with schizophrenia often suffer terrifying symptoms such as hearing internal voices not heard by others, or believing that other people are reading their minds, controlling...

Laplace Transform

...CHAPTER ONE INTRODUCTION 1.1 Background of the Study In this particular area of research, I wish to study transformation which plays an important role in pure and applied mathematics. This class of transformation is an integral transformation called the Laplace transform. It is very effective in the study of initial value problem involving linear differential equation with constant coefficient. Laplace transform was first introduced by a French mathematician called Pierre Simon Marquis de Laplace about 1780’s. This method associated with the isolation of the original problem that is function ƒ(t) of a real variable and some function ƒ(s) of a complex variable so that the ordinary differential equation for the function ƒ(t) is transformed into an algebraic equation for ƒ(s) which in most cases can readily be solved. The solution of the original differential equation can be arrived at by obtaining the inverse transformation. The transformation and its inverse can be derived by consulting already prepared table of transform. This method is particularly useful in the solution of differential equation and has more application in various fields of technology e.g. electrical network, mechanical vibrations, structural problems, control systems. Meanwhile in this research work, I shall look into the Laplace transform, the properties of the Laplace transform and the use of this technique in solving delay differential equation will be looked into. 1.2 Statement of the Problem ...
