Analysis of Bangladeshi Taka (BDT) against US Dollar ($)

Exchange rates play a vital role in a country's level of trade. This is critical to almost every free market-oriented economy in the world. Numerous factors such as inflation, interest rates, current-account/trade balance, public (government) debt and political environment determine exchange rates and all are related to the trading relationship between any two countries. The exchange rate, measured as a number of units of local currency per unit of foreign currency, is the price of the foreign currency in terms of the local currency. Like any other price, the value of the foreign currency in the local market depends on its supply and demand.
Like all other countries, the exchange rate management is one of the central issues of macroeconomic policies of Bangladesh. There are four types of exchange rate system- fixed, freely floating, managed float and pegged. Historically,

Systemic Importance of Rmg Sector

...accumulation of foreign exchange reserves in recent months, there has been a growing interest in Bangladesh on the alternative uses of its reserves. However, different reserves adequacy measures based on global best practices confirm that its reserves holding is not markedly higher than what is required. The country’s reserves stand higher than the adequate level only when one considers the current account aspects of reserves benchmark which is perhaps appropriate for the country as its financial system is still autarkic. The dynamics in its balance of payments account also supports the fact. The paper highlights the fact that Bangladesh’s reserves build-up is the result of an ‘investment drought’ in the country. This is partly due to its underdeveloped financial systems, and partly due to other structural problems in the economy – entailing difficulties in properly channelling national savings to investments. As the Bangladesh central bank’s sterilised intervention increases, so will its cost of reserves accumulation. The reason is the interest rate arbitrage between Bangladesh and the United States. The United States government securities market, that absorbs the lion’s share of developing economies reserves, has been offering lower yields following the collapse in interest rate in the country in recent times. Nevertheless, the apparent spread between the United States Treasury and Bangladesh Treasury rates might be not that high in real terms if one weighs in Bangladesh’s certain...

...Chapter : 1 Introduction Bangladesh suffers a huge trade imbalance with India. Apart from the large size of the economy, maintenance of a high protectionist trade regime by India in the forms of tariff and non-tariff barriers have contributed to this imbalance. While Bangladesh has progressed much ahead of India along with its liberalization of trade, India remains slow. Both Bangladesh and India are two major countries of the SAARC and have a long common historical past and similar cultural and social evolution. As far as trade relation is concerned, India is the 2nd largest trading partner of Bangladesh just after USA in 2003. India’s position is at the top for Bangladesh’s imports from the world (IMF: Direction of Trade Statistics, June 2004). Therefore, an analysis of current trade status between the two nations, obstacles and opportunities for mutual trade expansion is very critical for economic development of both countries, especially of Bangladesh, as Bangladesh has been suffering from historical trade deficit with India since its independence. The trade deficit has been increasing exponentially since the recent past. Official data show that compared to 1983, trade deficit in 2003 is more than 46 times higher1 (IMF: Direction of Trade Statistics). This growing deficit is a cause of serious concern for Bangladesh and has important economic and political implications. Hence the importance of the study is realized, and it is expected that the study will help policy makers...

Economy

...Every year the imperialists’ influence on Bangladesh becomes apparent when the Bangladesh Development Forum (previously known as Paris Consortium) meeting is held. This year this meeting was held on May 16 and 17 in Dhaka. In these meetings Finance Minister, Saifur Rahman, met the so-called ‘development partners’ (IMF/World Bank and others) who gathered to pledge money (loan and aid) to help develop the nation. The meetings were hailed a great success as $2 billion in aid were promised to Bangladesh over 3 years. Our governments boast at the amount of funds they can manage from the donor agencies. They present their ability to get money from these donor agencies as a sign of their brinkmanship and claim that this is the only way to solve the nation’s economic problems. In this paper, Hizb ut-Tahrir, Bangladesh exposes the oppressive capitalist nature of the budget and shows how the entire economy of Bangladesh, through a complex package of measures, is being brought under the total grip of the imperialists. ! " # $ % & ' Every year when the budget is presented, one of the most common discussions is that revenue target has not been achieved. Tax is the main source of revenue in Bangladesh (around 95% of total Government of Bangladesh GOB revenue), especially import duties (around 66% of tax revenue). Contribution of VAT (including import) currently stands above 40%. In the name of reform of tax regimes and restructuring of the tax administration, the GOB reduces the...

Rupali Bank

...Chapter- One Introduction Report Objective The objective of this report is to identify “Causes of Low Market Demand of Rupali Bank Ltd and Measures to Change the Situation”. This report is done in order to analyze the causes of low market demand which influence customer satisfaction from Rupali Bank Ltd and measures to change the situation. In the current competitive market though different banks are providing different services to grab maximum market share, still customers have their own evaluation or judgment to find the satisfaction level of the service provided by the banks. Market demand depends on customer satisfaction. Analyzing the causes of low market demand is a complex process and sometimes customers even measure their satisfaction based on such factors that they even don’t have clear idea about those issues or factors. The underlying problem in predicting customer choice resides much more in the fact that market demand depends on many different criteria simultaneously, including brand, service and product quality, performance, price, features, and so on. This problem is further confounded in service applications, where customers may consider intangible features and characteristics of the market offerings for e.g., service quality, benefits, safety and trust; interactions between service providers and customers. Thus, incorporating customer preferences and choices into day-to-day managerial decisions is extremely important for today’s highly competitive environment...
